Reading Jurassic Park: The Lost World Novel

Hey there everyone. I’m finally getting around to reading The Lost World all the way through. The original Jurassic Park is my all time favorite novel. I read it about once every one to two years.

I am liking the second book. I’m on page 136. I think I always fall off around this time. I plan to read this all the way through this time. I’m loving it so far.

However, the only character I miss from the movie is Roland Tembo. He was such a bad ass and complex character. Especially if you watch the movie with his deleted scene in there. It explains why he’s so heartbroken at the end of the movie even after he’s taken down the T-Rex.

What were your thoughts of TLW book compared to the movie?

What type of support/help did you need from your partner?

Hey there all. My partner is 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant. This is our first time going through this. What were some ways that your partner supported you during your pregnancy that were really helpful? What are things you wish your partner did?

Of course, I’ve talked with my partner about this and will continue to do so throughout the process. I just was hoping to get some differing perspectives from others who have been through this.

Thank you in advance.

What if the U.S. repelled the Nazi and Japanese invasions in the MITHC?

What do you think The Man in the High Castle world looks like if the U.S. is able to repel the Axis invasion of North America? The Soviets, mainland Europe, and Britain still fall to the Axis. FDR is still assassinated in 1932. The USA still struggles to get out of the Great Depression in the 1930s. However, let’s say Wendell Wilkie or some other interventionist becomes President in 1941 and begins building up America’s military.

The US government or at least the US President happens to be out of Washington the day Germany drops a nuke on DC. So, the country is still able to build its military into a superpower even as US cities are being torn a part by war. The government orchestrates a coordinated counteroffensive and eventually is able to complete its own atomic bomb project.

So, the USA winds up forcing the Axis out of the western hemisphere. They even manage to reclaim Hawaii, Midway, and are able to send a suicide bomber that drops an A-bomb on Japan to show the Axis what America is capable of.

What does the post WW2 look like in this world? Does the USA hold onto its democratic principles or does the damage from war cause the US government to fall anyways? What does the armistice look like that stops the fighting?

Mario Party Switch Never Has DLC Boards

Hey there folks. My wife, best friend, and I play Mario Party almost every weekend in very competitive games. We started with Super Mario Party, moved to Superstars once that came out, and now we play Super Mario Jamboree Switch 2 Version.

I really wish Nintendo would offer DLC with new levels to these games. I get that Jamboree has a healthy amount of boards but it would be really cool if they kept adding more boards. It gets repetitive after a while.

Does anyone foresee Nintendo ever offering new boards for Jamboree as DLC in the future?

Traveling to the Everglades this weekend.

My spouse and I are planning to visit Everglades National Park this weekend. We are first time visitors and have no idea what to do first. Our main priority is to find a place to have a good/safe walking hike and maybe hit a good observation deck/tower or two that we can drive to.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to which entrance we should start at or what particular hiking trails we should use? Again, we want safe walking trails but also beautiful views.

Thanks in advance.

GTA Vice City 100 Percent Run

So, I decided to go through and do a 100 percent complete run of GTA Vice City. Before I completed any of the storyline missions, I decided to complete all of the side stuff that it would let me. I’ve only completed the first storyline mission to get access to the ammunation.

So far, I found all 100 packages as well as completed the Police, Ambulance, Cone Crazy, and Pizza Delivery missions. I used the glitched at the Pier to be able to take a boat to the other islands and then used a helicopter to get most of the packages.

I used the Cone Crazy missions to max out my money. I want to see how much easier the storyline missions feel with most of the bonus features unlocked from the start.

My MITHC Fan Fiction Idea

So, I’m a fan of the show and the book. I came up with an idea that I thought could be a fun time travel/world hopping adventure story.

What if the Axis Victory world actually existed because the Nazis stumbled upon time travel near the ending of WWII as Germany was in ruins. So, realizing they were losing the war they decide to cheat and rig the game.

The Nazis keep going back in time to change things until they create a branch of reality where they win. First they try assassinating Churchill, but Allies still win. They try winning certain battles and prolong the war to where they just get hit with the atomic bomb.

Finally, they go back to 1932 and ensure the assassination attempt on FDR succeeds. This ultimately is where they succeed in creating a world where they win the war.

So, the adventure part of this story is where a failed musician in Nazi occupied New York City comes into play. His grandfather was a scientist on the Manhattan Project that failed in the Nazi victory world. His grandfather swore up and down though that the Allies won and that this world is a lie. Our musician, his music was banned by the Reich before it could ever take off. Somehow, someway, he winds up in our world where the Allies won. In our world, he’s a world famous musician who plays music all over the world because all he needed was the freedom to play his music.

Our main character winds up stumbling upon the Nazi plot. He starts going through time to try and undo what the Nazis have done and to set history back on course. The Nazis begin chasing him through time and alternate dimensions. Our main character soon realizes he must go back in time and save FDR’s life to erase the Nazi victory from history.

An alternate Allied Victory in WW2

I know, these alternate WW2 history posts are becoming like the tedious inevitability of another Scary Movie sequel. That being said, I’ve been listening to a lot of History Undone lately and a scenario popped into my head that I think would make for an interesting novella. It’s not totally realistic mind you, just something that I think could be compelling storytelling. Elements of the Man in the High Castle and Fatherland will no doubt bleed into this.

In this alternate WW2 story. Most of history goes the same until late 1942. Germany just barely wins the Battle of Stalingrad, triggering Turkey to declare war on Russia and enter into the war on the side of the Axis. Turkey invades Russia through the southern caucasus while Germany attacks from the north. Eventually, Turkey and Germany push into the middle east together, taking most of Iran.

Japan is already at war with America and the pacific theater is going exactly as it did in our timeline. America is on its path to becoming a super power and getting the atomic bomb.

Japan declares war on the Soviet Union seeing a moment of weakness in Russia. They don’t plan to push deep into Russia, just cause panic in the Soviet military to give their Axis allies an edge. Their hope is that Russia will surrender and then Germany and Turkey can aid the Japanese in the Pacific.

By mid 1943, Operation Torch has still happened and the Allies are taking back North Africa in a slow, bloody, and chaotic campaign.

With Russia’s main oil supply blocked off and Japan now trying to block lend-lease aid Russia, the Soviet war machine slows down significantly. It delays their progress but it does not knock them out of the war. They refuse to surrender.

Nearing March of 1944, the Allies look poised to take back all of North Africa and begin pushing into the middle east. From Egypt, Allied bombers are doing daily raids over Turkey.

For the Japanese, they’re spread far too thin and start losing at an even faster pace than real life. Germany has acquired the resources it needs but is also spread beyond its limits. It has oil but no good way to transfer it. The United States is on track to complete the atomic bomb just like in real life. Russia is starting to find its footing again and starting to push back.

By late 1944, Russia has pushed Japan back into Manchuria. Japan calls for a ceasefire and Russia accepts knowing they will attack Japan later. Lend-Lease aid to Russia resumes unrestricted. In Eurasia, Turkey has been bombarded by Allied bomber campaigns. The Allies have sent troops into Turkey which causes their Pro-Axis government to be overthrown by the people. Turkey then surrenders unconditionally and it allows Allied troops to use Turkey as an entryway into Europe. The Axis Powers are kicked out of Iran as well.

By the summer of 1945, Russia has taken back Stalingrad and the caucuses. Germany’s forces are overstretched, depleted, and starving. The Allies have taken Sicily and are pushing up through Italy. They are also pushing in across Greece and Bulgaria through Turkey.

Japan is in dire straits just like in our timeline with their home island being bombed daily. It’s become clear the Axis cannot win but Hitler refuses to surrender. And then on August 6, 1945, the US drops the world’s first atomic bomb on a German city.

Hitler falls into a hysterical fit of rage when he realizes the power of the atomic bomb. He demands to know why Germany never got a bomb too. He blames everyone but himself. He is urged by some to consider a peace deal. He refuses.

A second atomic bomb is dropped on another German city and still he refuses to surrender. Finally, a third bomb is dropped on Germany. Hitler decides he will let Germany burn to the ground rather than surrender. Days later, Claus von Staffenberg initiates Operation: Valkyrie and succeeds in overthrowing Hitler’s government.

Stauffenberg and his team then surrenders unconditionally after failing to reach a peace deal that would leave Germany independent.

In Asia, Russia invades Manchuria and attacks Japan with a vengeance. U.S. firebombing campaigns rage on in Japan. Japan finally surrenders to the same terms as in real life. WW2 is officially over.

Hitler, Himmler, and all of the top Nazis stand trial at Nuremberg. Most of them are either hanged or sentenced to life in prison. While at trial, Hitler is bound to a wheel chair because he had been left partially paralyzed from a stress-induced stroke. His hand trembles rapidly from Parkinson’s. He’s a shell of his former self. His mystic among the German people is tarnished.

Europe looks far different than in our timeline. Most of the former occupied Soviet states get their independence since they refuse to allow Russia to return to their countries. Germany lies in ruins and is being divided up between the U.S, British, and France. Vichy France was overthrown by the French people once Germany surrendered and democracy returned to France. Russia is outraged at the shape of postwar Europe.

What does this Cold War look like if there even is one at all? What does postwar Europe look like?

Some cool retro WWF/WCW finds

I know these aren’t video games, but seeing as we’re all playing the heck out of rom hacks based in the 80s/90s/early 00s. I’d share some epic retro pro wrestling finds I made out in the wild today.

What if FDR had lived and was healthy enough to serve out his fourth term?

Here’s an interesting what if scenario. What if President Franklin D. Roosevelt had served out at least a majority of his fourth term and was at least as healthy as he was in 1941. What do you think changes if anything at all? Does America get a universal healthcare system like he had wanted? Does the Cold War get delayed by a few years? Does FDR resign before his fourth term is even up?

What if America remained independent?

What if the world and the war in the MITHC goes almost similar to the show’s timeline. America gets bombed to hell, starvation, depression, Axis defeat Russia, Britain, France, Australia, etc but somehow the USA manages to pull off the atomic bomb forcing Germany and Japan to give up on their plans for the occupation of the US. So, the U.S., Canada, Mexico, etc maintain their independence with no land lost with the exception of America losing Hawaii.

So, Germany and Japan still rule most of the world. The US is the ruling influence in the western hemisphere but the country itself is in utter shambles after being overwhelmed by the depression and Axis bombing campaigns. American cities lie in ruins.

What does this world look like by 1962? What does the USA look like? Can it recover?
