Second thoughts on this "hail damaged" MINI

Second thoughts on this "hail damaged" MINI

I won the auction for this 2022 MINI Clubman. It is hail-damaged, with apparently no visible hail marks (beige is pretty hard to see).

After (winning) and paying more attention to it, the check engine light is on, the engine cover is missing, and there is a weird high-pitched noise coming from the engine. Carfax says salvage and rebuilt title. The final bid was $10,100.

Any thoughts? I know I should have checked before bidding, but I am considering taking the hit on the 10% relisting fee.

Thanks!

What a title code "CA - Dis/DLR/exp only clean title" means?

According to Copart's definition, "only members with a Dismantlers, Dealers or Export license can bid on this vehicle and will receive CA Clean title or clean title transferable documents/title group: clean".

If I use my broker, can it be transferred to my name (not in CA)? Is it a export only vehicle?

Thanks

Why a clean title car would be at Copart for mechanical damage sold by insurance?

The main possible reason for a clean-title car with no body damage being sold at Copart by an insurance company is theft recovery. I checked for theft records, and this car is clean. It also has a clean Carfax.

If the car has an engine or transmission failure, that would have nothing to do with the insurance company, right?

I’d like to understand what other possible reasons there could be for cases like this: clean title, no body damage, insurance is the seller, listed as "mechanical damage".

Thanks!

Missing VIN tag on driver's door jam

A two-door car in my watchlist is missing the whole quarter panel, including the VIN tag on the driver's door jam. However, the VIN on the dash is there.

How bad is it for issuing the rebuilt title and selling?

Thanks

Landlord won't repair the AC and moving out

I've been living in the same house for 3.5 years, and I sign a new lease every year.

Two weeks ago, my AC stopped working, and my landlord still hasn't repaired it. Yesterday, the temperature inside my house reached 88°F. Every time I call, they give me another excuse.

I've decided to move and found a good deal on another rental. My current lease doesn't end until January 2027.

Given my situation, is there anything I can do, other than trying to negotiate with my landlord, that could allow me to break the lease without having to pay the associated costs?

Any advice?

Thank you.

How much does skipping after-work dinners hurt your career?

I work for a large company in the US, and I absolutely hate going to dinners after work. I don't mind going out for lunch, but dinner? No way. Talking to people drains my energy, so by 5 p.m. my body is begging to go back to my cozy house.

When I was an individual contributor, I skipped every single one without a second thought. I don't think it had any negative impact, since I was promoted to lead my former coworkers a year ago.

So far, I've declined three dinner invitations as a manager. The most recent one included all the senior leaders, and my name was marked as "optional" on the Outlook invitation. Once again, I didn't go.

How badly could this hurt my career in the long run?

400 highway miles on the weekend/20 city miles weekdays

I currently own a 2022 Prius Prime with 55k miles. No issues. I average 48 mpg driving at 75 mph.

My only complaints are:

1 - This car is slow. Specially when you need a bit more power.

2 - No Android Auto.

3 - 2WD (I live in the North).

What would be a reliable and fuel efficient option?

Toyota Camry? Crown?

Thanks

Obrigado

O algoritmo do YouTube é burro

Todas as vezes eu pulo. Nunca assisto.

Obrigado

Manager vs Scientist - which one will be less replaceable by AI?

I'm a team manager with 12 direct reports at a large biotech company in the U.S. One year ago, I was a scientist working in a wet lab.

While AI adoption is not as intense in biotech as it is in the tech industry, it's slowly becoming part of our day-to-day activities. Nothing concerning at the moment, but it will certainly continue to grow.

I've been wondering whether pursuing the management path will provide greater stability and opportunities in the long run, or whether staying hands-on in a technical role will be more valuable in an AI-driven future.

At least for now, switching companies as a manager is significantly more difficult than in a technical role. I would estimate that for every management position open, there are at least ten scientific positions, if not more. In addition, management positions tend to be filled based on trust and relationships as much as qualifications and experience.

What's your opinion on this? I'm considering stepping back to scientist.

First time replacing airbags - help

Bought a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz with curtain and seat deployed airbags (passenger side only). Driver hit an animal on the passenger front corner.

My plans are sending the airbag module for resetting, replacing the passenger impact sensor (attached to the radiator support), and replacing the deployed airbags.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks

PS: if your only comment is something like "if you are asking you shouldn't be doing it", please keep to yourself.

Parting out a car

I won an unseen 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz with only 12,000 miles. It was listed with minor front-end damage, but when I picked it up today, I realized it’s not worth rebuilding. Parts are hard to find and expensive. I definitely should have done more research before buying.

I’m now deciding between sending it back to Copart or parting it out. I’m a private individual and have never parted out a car before.

Am I legally allowed to part it out? What happens to the salvage title that’s in my name? Can I send the frame (or whatever is left of the car) back to Copart after selling most of the parts?

Thanks

Implementação de sistema em empresa - ajuda básica

Boa noite.

New Copart app

My Copart app (Android) was recently updated. In this new version I can't find the little truck icon to estimate the shipping cost. It's gone. Also, coincidentally my cell phone is vibrating out of the blue.

Does anyone here is experience similar things?
