Mid thigh length hair in a French braid!

I always get asked how I wear my mid thigh lenght hair and this is it 85% of the time. Just a regular French braid because that’s one of the only styles that will stay! I‘ve been going back and forth on cutting it to make it more manageable and so it won’t get in the sink or trapped under my husband in the night and almost hang me when I try to turn over lol. I love it when it’s freshly washed and braided, but when I’m actually doing the braiding while trying to get ready to go somewhere is when I strongly consider getting my scissors! 🤣

How much shampoo and conditioner do you go through?

I’m ALWAYS buying shampoo and conditioner, which i guess isn’t too surprising because my hair is mid thigh lenght! I usually wash about every other day and buy a bottle of conditioner every few weeks or so and need quite a bit less shampoo, despite shampooing twice and conditioning only once. I feel like I should buy stocks in haircare products lol. How much is everyone else’s long hair going through?

What’s a good strong smelling cedarwood essential oil?

I love diffusing cedarwood oil in our bedroom to help with relaxation and to help keep insects away and I’m looking for a stronger one than my current one( Brooklyn botany) as I feel like I have to use a lot and can still barely smell it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Is it normal for a Golden Retriever puppy to be terrified of everything?

My 11 week old Golden Retriever puppy is absolutely terrified of everything! New people, walks, any kind of noise such as a little thump, cars, children and other dogs. She never wants to leave the house and I have to carry her out most of the time to go to the bathroom. If she hears a dog bark in the distance she starts squealing and runs toward her crate or the door if outside. I absolutely cannot get her to walk down the sidewalk, she just pulls backwards toward the house. I think she’d rather pop her head off than take a step lol. I know Golden Retrievers are usually a very friendly and people loving breed, but is this normal for puppies? We got her from a reputable breeder and all of her dogs( including this puppy’s parents) were very friendly and not timid. I’m really hoping this will pass because I was so hoping to train her to be a therapy dog when she gets older!

Tips for keeping a home clutter free?

I just recently moved into my own house after growing up in a nasty hoarder house and I’m doing my best to keep it clean and actually love cleaning, but I’m struggling a bit with keeping clutter under control the way i’d like it. My husband tends to leave stuff around the house and we have two birds and a 10 week old puppy, on top of living in a tiny house with not a lot of room.

I‘m pretty minimalistic and my husband has more stuff but not a whole lot. I think one of the issues I have is that my hoarder dad would get mad and throw a temper tantrum if somebody moved his stuff, and I’m still uncomfortable touching other people’s things even though my husband gave me permission to move anything of his. The other issues are dealing with the dishes( I’m an avid baker and cook) in a teeny kitchen, and the pet supplies.

Any tips would be appreciated! thanks

Budgie safe ways to make the house smell good?

The birds don’t stink and the house is very clean, but my husband brought home a stinky puppy( she’s clean and bathed, it’s just a “ doggy” smell) and I feel uncomfortable with people coming into our house right now as I‘m super weird about smells lol. Anybody know of ways other than candles and air fresheners to make the house smell good without harming my precious birds? Thanks🐦

It was an unexpected journey getting this girl!

We’d been on the waiting list of a very reputable 5 star breeder for almost 6 months and finally went to get our 8 week old Golden Retriever a couple days ago, but when we got there the breeder told us the puppy we’d picked out 2 weeks before had a heart issue and she’d been meaning to tell us but hadn’t had time. She said she would still recommend that we take her, but she’d saved back our second choice puppy and was going to hold it for 4 days in case we had problems. I really wanted that puppy because of her lovely temperament as I‘d been hoping to train her as a therapy dog for visiting nursing homes and hospitals so we decided to take her home, not really understanding her issue. Within a couple hours it became apparent that the puppy was not well at all, she had an erratic heart rate, heavy breathing, panting, crying and diarrhea. My husband talked to a veterinarian about it and he thought it would be best to take her back to the breeder, as she needed a level of care that we couldn’t afford. We only had her for 6 hours and I know it was in her best interest, but it broke my heart to take her back. When the breeder put her back in the pen and gave us the new puppy she was just staring at us 😭

But anyway, this girl is the biggest puppy in the litter of 11( 12lbs at 8 weeks) and quite a lazy chunk! I still feel so guilty about the sick puppy, but I’m grateful to have this fluffy girl! ❤️

The best hairbrush I’ve ever used!

I’d been using a Tangle Teezer( which is highly recommended for tangles) for a really long time and eventually got tired of all the pulling and just felt it wasn’t the right brush for my hair, so decided to buy this $9 NinaBella brush on Amazon in the hopes that there was a different way to live😅

There was! This one pulls less and I notice less breakage. I just wanted to put this out as an option in case anyone is struggling with nasty painful knots like I do!

How did people used to go so long between washes?

It’s always something I’ve wondered, because I can’t go a day without either washing or using a ton of dry shampoo. I’ve read books from the 1800s that gave beauty and health tips and they would advise women to wash their hair more frequently, at least once a month! Even vintage videos I’ve watched from the 40s and 50s advised women to wash their hair just every week or two.

But these days it seems like most people’s hair gets oily and itchy after just a day or two! why is this? I don’t think people used to walk around with extremely greasy hair most of the time judging by the old pictures, so something must have changed that makes people’s hair get oily faster 🤔

Some theories I‘ve heard about it

  1. Overwashing strips the hair and causes it to produce more oil to protect itself

I’ve heard people say that “ training“ the hair by washing it less and less will make it produce less oil over time since it’s not being stripped away. But other people say it’s a myth and does not work, oil is regulated by hormones. But there’s a lady on Youtube called PrettyShepherd that made a video about how she washes her knee lenght hair once a month and she said washing more causes it to produce more oil 🤷‍♀️

  1. Hormones

I‘ve read that hormones( androgens) cause the skin and therefore the scalp to produce more oil, so we have no control over it. If that’s the case why did peoples hormones change from what they were throughout the rest of history and make our scalps oilier?

  1. Diet

Enough said there 😅. But I have heard some people blame oily hair on sugar or dairy. Most people in the 40s and 50s ate a lot of dairy from what I‘ve heard, like cheese, butter and milk. Sugar too if they could get it!

Does anyone else have any thoughts or theories on why this is?

Brush suggestions?

We’re getting our first Golden Retriever puppy in about a week and I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for a good brush that works for your lovable fluff balls? I’ve only ever had shorthaired dogs before, so this is entirely new to me and I know this breed sheds a lot too lol. Thanks! 🐶

Mid thigh length!

Here is the best picture I could take of my currently mid thigh length hair so please excuse the streaky mirror! I’ve had extra long hair for most of my life, but this is the longest it’s ever been and I might be chopping it soon for convenience. I go back and forth between loving it and feeling like it controls my whole life lol. It would feel sad to cut it off because it’s the healthiest it’s ever been thanks to getting some health issues sorted and learning to care for it better. Happy haircare!

Routine

I like to wash everyday or every other day and I always double or even triple wash my hair. Keeping it clean by using very cleansing shampoo is SO important for my hair type! l apply a very generous amount of conditioner, even a little on the top of my hair, and let it sit while I finish my shower and then I rinse some of it out, but not all. I know thats very controversial, but it’s the only thing that prevents my hair from being a dry unmanageable mess! I just make sure I’m using a good shampoo often to remove any buildup. i gently squeeze the excess water out with a towel and then( controversial!) I‘ve been applying a little more conditioner to my hair before detangling. My hair has never been more manageable with doing this! If I don’t do that, I apply a standard leave in conditioner and let it air dry, or lately I’ve been blow drying

Tips for blow drying with minimal damage?

My hair is mid thigh lenght and I like to wash it every day or every other day these days, but it bothers me being wet so much so I’m going to start blow drying it. I don’t currently use any hot tools on my hair. Any tips for minimizing damage while blow drying? Like blow dryer recommendations as well as what kind of brush to use and a good heat protectant? Thank you!

Also, I’ve heard some people say that blow drying has actually made their hair healthier! Has anyone experienced this?

Is this cleanable or permanent?

I’ve tried so hard to get this off without success and am about to admit it’s permanent! This is the burner my husband always cooked on before we got married and I moved in, but I’m not sure exactly how he managed to do this lol. I have tried comet, baking soda, dish soap and Lysol powerclean. I’ve scrubbed at it with a brush, a scraper and microfiber cloth. Any suggestions before I give up?Thank you!

Slightly yellow poop?

My husband noticed that our parakeet’s poop has turned slightly yellow and we’re worried they’re sick. Does this look normal or is something wrong? He said they’ve been eating more Nutriberries, but other than that there’s been no change to their diets. They act perfectly normal and are chirping and active. These are our first parakeets and we’ve had them for just a couple months. Thank you

Love my simple ring!

I think I must have picked the most plain and simple rings the jewelry store had, but it’s exactly what I wanted and suits my lifestyle. The lady who was helping us looked at my fiance and said “ she’s going easy on you”! 🤣

Does anyone else have and love simple rings? 💍💕

Is there a product that will make hair less clingy?

My hair clings and sticks together soooo badly and I was wondering if there is a product that could help with this and make it easier to separate and braid? I use a good leave in conditioner and that helps a lot, but it’s still like fighting vines in a haunted forest lol

How to keep braids neat for longer?

Just did my hair into a French braid and it’s already beginning to frizz out a bit! Was wondering if anyone knows how to help keep braids neat for longer? I know some people are able to keep them in for a few days while working in healthcare or something, and I’m just like how???😮

It would be so nice to not have to redo it constantly though because my hair is mid thigh length currently and it’s a hassle. I’ve tried running gel and mousse through it when damp before braiding, and also spraying the finished braid with hairspray and no luck lol.

I can’t focus or get anything done anymore. Advice would be appreciated!

I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice! The last few months have been pretty crazy and my whole life is completely changing. I’m moving out of the house I’ve lived in my whole life and going to live in another city far away from my family and everything I’ve ever known. I’m so grateful and excited to begin a new life, but I can’t focus on anything! There‘s so much I have to get done and i just can’t get it all straight in my head. If I start to do something, I just get distracted and walk off lol. I also lose all of my belongings now, which is out of character. I can’t remember to take my medicines, can’t sleep or get up on time, lose track of time, my space is a mess and I can’t get myself together enough to clean it. I also have a few chronic illnesses that are known to cause brain fog, so that’s not helping either lol.

Does anyone have any advice on how to be more productive and motivated when you‘re having trouble focusing? I would really appreciate any help! Thank you ☺️

Best pellets for parakeets?

Just got these two babies and I’m trying to learn all I can about their diet! The women at the store that we got them from said seeds were best and that’s what they feed them there. But I’d heard pellets were better and she asked another employee who said an all seed diet is bad and recommended Zupreem Fruitblend. The birds are at my fiancé’s house and he says they aren’t eating the pellets, and he thinks this food is unhealthy for them because it contains dyes and we want to feed them the best. Does anyone have a recommendation for pellets that they’ll like and that’s healthy? Thanks! 🐦
