Openstreetmap Offline as an ebook for e-readers?

Hello! I'm switching to a dumbphone so I implemented Openstreetmap using Organic Maps on Linux.
But I thought that it could be useful to try Openstreetmap even on a Kindle offline using an ebook for my city.
Any suggestions?
I found this website but there isn't my city: www.ebookmaps.com

Read before open an app in iOS FOR FREE?

So I noticed there are some paid apps that make you scan a book page before open an app. They are created to prevent doomscrolling. Since there are no free apps that do this, is there a way to replicate for free that in Shortcuts app?

What is your experience with this "digital mp3 player"?

I remember I had exactly this shape of mp3 player as a child. I really like it at distance of years because you can insert manually with no effort a cheap battery.
But I don't remember if it was everything ok with this mp3 player.
Someone has bought it recently or can anyway tell me more about it?

How to send encrypted email from Proton to Other Email Users

Are you looking how to send an encrypted email from a basic email to a protonmail user? CLICK HERE

Firstly let's say that if you send an email from a protonmail to an other protonmail is automatically encrypted. So this is guide is useless if that is your case.

  1. to generate the security keys for pgp you have to login from protonmail web
  2. once you have done, click on the settings icon at the top-right pane and then click on "All settings"
  3. on the right panel choose "cryptography and keys" and select "Attach public key" and select "Sign the external messages". Now everytime you try to write an email with protonmail automatically Proton attach for you your public key to allow the encrypted conversations. You can always choose in the moment you write your email to deselect it.
  4. Now you have to send your first email with your public key to your non-protonmail user friend. The email must be not encrypted at this first time. He must import it to his phone or PC where he locally stores his private key. For example if this non-proton user uses Thunderbird, when he received your email with your public key he must click on the OpenPGP icon and then he can import it from there.
  5. Once he received your public key he must send his public key to you in a non-encrypted email and you must import it. For example if he uses Thunderbird he must de-select the "Encrypt" icon from the email window and from the attach menu attach his public key. Then send this non-encrypted email to you.
  6. In the email sent to you, you will see a message like this "This message has an attached key that is not yet considered trusted". What you must do is press the "trusted key" button.
  7. Once you import his public key, now it is possible to encrypt your email for you two.

That’s it! Live well away from mass surveillance, tech giants, and long live secure emails.

How to configure PGP (OpenPGP) on Thunderbird

Are you looking to use PGP from Protonmail to a non-protonmail user? CLICK HERE

I’ll assume you’ve already set up your account in Thunderbird. If so:

For PC

  1. Open Thunderbird.
  2. In the top-right corner, click the three horizontal stripes and select Account Settings.
  3. In the dropdown menu next to your email address, click End-to-end encryption and then Add keyCreate a new OpenPGP key.
  4. Choose whether to set an expiration date (which can be modified later) or select the No expiration box.
  5. Click Generate key and then Confirm.
  6. Once the process is complete, you’ll return to the End-to-end encryption screen. Click Publish to upload your public key to a public server. This allows others (e.g., Thunderbird users) to easily find your public key and start sending you secure messages.
  7. Go to OpenPGP Key Manager, select your key, and click File at the top, then Backup secret keys to file. You’ll be prompted to set a password—use a physical notebook or a secure tool you’re sure you won’t lose, and create a strong password. I recommend using uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens, etc. In general, the more varied and complex a password is, the stronger it will be. If you lose your public key, it’s not a problem, but if you lose your private key, you’ll at best have to generate a new key pair and notify your contacts of the change. click File at the top, then “Generate Revocation Certificate” and save it near the private key.
  8. In the Default settings for new messages section, you can choose whether to enable encryption for new messages by default. When you send a message, Thunderbird will look up the recipient’s public key from the key server. If it doesn’t find it, you’ll need to disable encryption for that message. In other words, if the recipient doesn’t use PGP or you don’t have their public key, you won’t be able to send the message until you turn off encryption.
  9. You should click on the link you received from keyserver@keys.openpgp.org
  10. Let's proceed with a test writing to a bot. Start a new email and in the address box write: edward-en@fsf.org
  11. Since you do not yet have Edward’s public key, encryption cannot be enabled for this first message. So disable the encryption and from the "Attach" dropdown menu select that you want to send your public key.
  12. Put in the object and in the body box "test" and send the email. Wait 2-3 minutes that Edward send you an email with his public key.
  13. Now we can send to Edward the bot an encrypted mail so we can do it if we click on "OpenPGP" icon in the mail itself in order to select "Discover" next to the text: "This message was signed with a key that you don't yet have" the public key of Edward from his email. Click "Accepted (unverified)" and press the button to confirm (P.S: notice that for real contacts, you should verify the key fingerprint through another trusted channel before marking the key as verified). Another way to import a public key is opening your OpenPGP Key manager and under "Keyserver" choose "Discover Keys Online" where you can fill in Edward's email address and discover and import Edward's key. You can do the same here: https://keys.openpgp.org
  14. Write a new email to Edward and we make attention to notice if the encryption is enabled. Send it and if everything goes well you should read it in your next email from Edward.

Example:

  1. Tim send a non encrypted email with his public key to Tom and Tom imported it
  2. Tom send a non encrypted email with his public key to Tim and Tim imported it
  3. Since now Tim and Tom can have a secure and encrypted communication via email

That’s it! Live well away from mass surveillance, tech giants, and long live secure emails.

[m/26] finding an email panpal with PGP

Hi, i'm searching for a friend with which communicate via email but using the cryptography end to end (pgp) with thunderbird (i.e.). If you are interested in this ethical way to communicate, contact me.
I'm from Italy and I like spirituality, paganism, hinduism, philosophy, technology (I'm a linux fan).
I listen to music, many genres of music actually.
I practice hatha yoga, and I like who cares about nature, a life without consumism, and where rights of people are respected.
I'm not feminist but I'm antisexist though, because I have a personal view of history that see how in my country there isn't a patriarchy but a bisexism.

What is the purpose of this community?

We live in a world where we could choose to live ethically, but we are often forced by big tech companies, mass surveillance systems, and an unaware society to act unethically—such as using proprietary software instead of open-source alternatives, Google instead of privacy-focused search engines like DuckDuckGo or Ecosia (if we also care about our planet), X instead of decentralized platforms like Mastodon (part of the Fediverse), WhatsApp instead of open and encrypted protocols like XMPP, or traditional email instead of encrypted solutions like PGP.

Many platforms, including websites and Reddit communities, allow users to interact in unethical ways through unprotected email. Traditional email can be read by the servers of big tech companies and even governments because it lacks encryption. For truly private communication, encryption is essential.

PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) is a tool that enables email encryption. To use it, you need a private key (which you must keep secret) and a public key (which you can share). Your public key allows others to send you encrypted emails that only you can decrypt using your private key, stored locally on your PC or smartphone.

This community exists to help people communicate securely through PGP-encrypted emails. For more details, check out this guide: https://emailselfdefense.fsf.org/en/

PGP works with any email address, but if you want a simpler, integrated solution, consider opening a Protonmail account, which includes end-to-end encryption by default. Alternatively, you can use Thunderbird (an open-source email client) to manage your emails on PC or smartphone, though there are some differences in functionality compared to Protonmail.

hello, do you know a fast way to cancel the icloud subscription? Possibly using a privacy oriented way to do it. My problem is whatsapp that has >10gb of data and I don't know where I can put them, with images, videos etc.

my dream is to have our phone or pc that can be a little server p2p that can send and receive his email to and from other server (also not p2p) and if it's not on, the message it should receive will continue to try to send every hour or day until the server (the pc or phone itself) will be on. Is it something so impossible? We could say forever goodbye to big eye and save the logic of email giving them everything to be privacy oriented.
