NITA Survey

NITA Survey

Just in case you missed it, NITA (Northern Illinois Transit Authority) has a survey available for transit riders in the region. There was so much advocacy work that went into making NITA a reality, let's inform NITA what's important to you as a rider (or potential rider)

Survey closes October 16th. Takes about 10 minutes unless you want to really get in-depth with your responses.

"Houseplants clean the air"

How many of you have encountered people who think houseplants are a viable substitute for air purifiers?

It's kind of scary how many people I encounter who suggest houseplants as a way to clean the air of viruses when I'm encouraging teachers to add them to their classrooms.

Recreating Chicago Diner's Cajun black bean burger

I checked out the Chicago Diner cookbook from the library this week and made their Cajun black bean recipe tonight. Unfortunately, the flavor is lacking, and I’m just not getting the same flavor as I would from the restaurant. The spices in the recipe are cumin, onion powder, and red pepper flakes. I didn’t have red pepper flakes on hand, but I truly don’t think the lack of red pepper flakes is the issue. Has anyone successfully re-created these burgers and if so, what spices or barbecue sauce did you use?

Fresh felines in Denver

I follow Denver Kittens and they made a post less than an hour ago about some new kitties that arrived. 3 out of the five new arrivals are torties. They'll be available for adoption in a few weeks if you're looking to add a new feline friend to your home.

Fan options

Hello,

I am part of a clean air group in my city hoping to construct some quiet CR boxes to help folks with wildfire smoke and filter viruses. We recently used Black and Decker's 9 inch boxless fan with 12x24x2 Merv 13 filters but I was informed the fan was underpowered and wouldn't give high CADR numbers.

Any recommendations for quiet and powerful fans for use with 12x24x2 Merv 13 filters?

Thank you so much

Why are Chicago drivers so hostile towards cyclists?

Neighborhood greenways are often overrun with drivers who honk and/or curse at cyclists who are obeying the rules of the road. On side streets it's not uncommon to encounter the same.

What gives?

Would this harassment die down if we did more to curb through traffic on side streets?
Allowed for cyclists to submit video footage of harassment for criminal charges against drivers who engage in harassment?

CTA fucking sucks but it would be nice to have a speedy bus as a nice alternative if the city isn't going to do anything to mitigation harassment against people biking.

CADR differences in design

Hello!

Has anyone tracked or observed a CADR difference between CR boxes built with 4 10" filters vs the triangle design that uses 2 20" filters?

A proposal for a House Fresh experiment

I talk about air purifiers a decent amount on my social media and I am baffled by the amount of people who think houseplants are a substitute for an air purifier. I have shared articles debunking the idea that houseplants can meaningfully improve air quality in our homes and offices.

I have yet to come across someone testing houseplants with smoke and comparing it to an air purifier. I think House Fresh is the perfect entity to do so. I think a YouTube video would be really compelling.

If you're open to it House Fresh, would this be something readers of the site and YouTube viewers can donate towards? 👀

"Team over self"- Natalie Nakase after Atlanta Dream July 4, 2026 win

Admittedly I haven't watched the Valkyries post-game presser because I'm still salty about this Atlanta Dream loss. I'm all about exploiting your competition's weaknesses but not through flopping and exploiting Angel's biased (IMO) whistle which is what played a role in the Valkyries win. Both teams are my number one team.

That being said, the title of the Valkyries post-game presser stood out. I have seen the Dream play great team ball and win games. I understand the coach's rotations play a role but so does playing well with your teammates and reading the floor well.

However, Angel was iced out in the 4th quarter for 3s that weren't falling and poor passing. Okot also should have had more time on the floor with her and Angel being fed the ball.

Is selfishnes *a role in yesterday's loss?

Pet-focused air purifier from BlueAir

I received a targeted ad from BlueAir for a pet-focused air purifier. Decent idea but the $250 price tag gives me major pause. I have two cats and my air purifiers pick up a lot of pet hair, some of the purifiers more than others based on placement and the device itself. Is this device by BlueAir something you’d consider for yourself?

Tracking CO2 Numbers

I used the search function and didn't see anyone mentioning this.

I became aware of the AirSpot Health CO2 Monitor a few months ago. They have an online map where folks can submit CO2 Readings for spaces across the world. You don't have to own their device to add to the map.

I am aware many of us won't unmask in indoor spaces, even with stellar CO2 but these readings can be helpful to those who have an elevated risk or who simply want to know this info.

I use the Firestick to stream WNBA league pass along with my iPad. On the firstick in order to see games, I have to click on the calendar to see who is playing/played on a particular date.

The format is *better on my iPad and phone because I can scroll up or down in the “Watch” menu but on the firestick I have to click on a day on the calendar.

Has anyone else shared feedback with the WNBA as to how frustrating this new game schedule format on the firestick/Roku/etc is? I don’t understand why they thought this was a good change.
