Weird behavior - 12v?

'24 Evolve+ e4orce, 24k miles. Not a single issue of any kind in 2+ years. Today, started charging session in garage with our wall mounted Emporia. All good initially, then received notification that charging had stopped. Went down to garage, saw "Service EV System" warning on dash. I unplugged, restarted the car, the warning popped again but then disappeared. I plugged in again, started charging, then it stopped again after about 2 minutes. Now it has been cycling between charging and not charging, but no EV System warning on the dash. Any thoughts? We've never touched the 12v. Also - likely irrelevant - but I also got a key fob battery low message.

AT Tires/beach driving

Hey all, first want to say thanks to this sub. I've been lurking here awhile and have learned a lot as I continue the search for my next vehicle. I have all but decided that the Lightning is it, after the lease on my current EV (Prologue) expires early next year.

Question is this - I will have the opportunity to do a fair amount of beach driving. The sand tends to be soft and dry, and in fact, in one location in particular, oversand vehicles are required to air down to 15 PSI. Would love to hear owners' experiences, particularly in soft sand (as opposed to hard pack). I'm also wondering if it makes sense to swap out the stock all-seasons for an on-road AT tire (not a hard-core K03 or anything). Looking for additional capability without taking a huge efficiency hit.

Test drive - wow

Looking for my next EV once my Prologue lease expires, so I've been driving some candidates. Trailseeker and EV6 most recently. Mach-E was today, and the one I've been looking forward to the most. It's been at the top of my list and it didn't disappoint. I'm leaning towards a GT or Rally, but the dealer only had a Select AWD SR available. Few thoughts:

  • I was really impressed by the interior quality and roominess, very important factors to me.
  • Acceleration was fantastic, can't imagine a GT with 100+ more horsepower and 700 lb/ft!
  • Center console was very functional, much better than the Subaru and Kia and on par with the Prologue.
  • There's a lot going on in the center screen, didn't find it immediately intuitive but can't really judge on a 20 minute test drive.
  • The Prologue rides and handles like a boat, so the MME's suspension felt way sportier, firmer. Will have to drive a Magneride though.
  • And obviously the exterior styling is killer.

What struck me the most was that I felt immediately comfortable in it, like I was "at home" even though I was a first-timer. Thought that was interesting.

Quick and dirty test drive impressions

Starting the research phase as my Prologue lease is expiring in about 7 months. First time with eyes on the Trailseeker.

  1. Drove a Premium in white. I was struggling with the cladding, but in person I thought it somehow...looked cool? In white no less.

  2. Drove very well, very planted, quiet, almost Germanic. Didn't get a chance to punch it (traffic) but you can tell this thing wants to *go*.

  3. Was curious about the gauge display but it was a non-issue. I'm tall-ish (5'11") and with the seat where I wanted it, could see it very clearly. It actually struck me as making more sense than the typical set up.

  4. Interior space was OK, with great cargo space, but the Prologue has spoiled me with its cavernous interior. Coming from driving full-size pickups before the Honda, I guess I'm used to elbow room. So in that respect it felt a little tight.

  5. Great feature set on the Premium. Didn't feel like a base model.

  6. My only dislike was the center console. Lots of wasted space. Move the shifter to the column, provide a single wireless charger and give me better cupholders and more accessible storage space.

Overall, I liked it. A lot. Checks a lot of boxes for me. I have a long list though - Ioniq 5, EV6, Mach-E, Lyriq, R2, etc. We'll see.

I just wrote my congressman

I am more than a little pissed about this proposed $130 EV surcharge added as part of the new highway funding bill in the House. The fact that it was bipartisan just gets my fucking knickers in a knot even more. I guess it's OK to take a big fat shit on EV owners. And I don't even have it as bad as some of you who have state-level fees (MA has no EV-specific fee). I know it won't make a lick of difference, but I did it anyway. BTW - I am completely in favor of paying some sort of proportionate fee/tax, but this ain't it. This is straight up punitive.

Ride, NVH differences 2025 vs 2024

Hi all, been lurking here for a while as the EV6 is currently the frontrunner to replace my leased Prologue early next year. I test drove a '25 EV6 LLR AWD and absolutely loved it. I'd prefer to buy used though, and have been looking at some '24s. I understand the obvious differences between the '24s and '25s - NACS, headlights etc. But did Kia update the suspension tuning? Sound deadening? I guess I'm asking - do the pre-refresh versions drive differently/louder/rougher or are they essentially the same? Appreciate insight from those who have owned/driven both.

About a month ago, I had the display screen recall completed on my '24 Prologue. All went well, got the jazzy new gauge cluster screens, etc. Now, despite never experiencing a blank/non-op screen prior to the recall work, the infotainment display has gone dark and rebooted itself while driving on two separate occasions. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, did this necessitate a follow-up visit to the dealer?

I'm at about 18k miles, and I've used L2 charging exclusively. I found myself at a shopping mall that had two EVGo cabinets, and thought, why not. I was at 55% SOC, didn't need to charge, but what the hell. First of all, there was trash strewn around the cabinets and all the charger nozzles were lying on the ground. The cabinets themselves were pretty rusty and banged up, looking like props from Fallout. Whatever. I have an active EVGo account, with a linked payment method and $100 in credits. I plugged in, tapped the reader, it wouldn't recognize my account. Tried again, no dice. I then tried a bank card, and it wouldn't accept that either even though there were plenty of freedom dollars in the account. I just gave up and moved to a regular spot. But I thought, if this is what fast charging is like on road trips, no thank you. This was at the Chestnut Hill Mall in MA btw.
