5 year alt thinking about going home and getting teachers credentials in home country and either working there or maybe coming back to jp. no language skills.

my home bachelor degree is not something i want to pursue, everyone is suggesting that i just do primary school education instead of trying to learn a middle school subject like history .

so, are there jobs for int school primary teachers who never specialized in a subject?

i would be looking to come back over with 5 yrs experience as alt and 1 year maybe 2 as primary/elementary school

the dream would be (rn) to be an elementary school teacher/homeroom in english speaking int school. this is because of more responsibility and better able to enjoy life being surrounded by english speaking kids, but in japan

tldr: do international schools hire elementary school teachers or do you need a subject specialization? im native english white male over 40 , good t1 alt , little japanese skill

in ishikawa or wherever. just wondering coz it was interesting

i honestly think newcomers can be divided into two major categories

1. people who are naturally decent at picking up what they need to do and are not bad at it and can pretty easily replicate whats shown to them and apply it

2. ME. me as in i went through the training at borderlink or interac or whatever it was and when it came to my turn to stand up in front of everyone and give a demonstration class, no matter how many times id seen it before, i just froze and if you asked me “do you know what you’re supposed to be doing?” id just say ,,,, yes, and know,,, i watched you 100 times but i just can’t do it.

number 2 is me by the way and i can watch other people be amazing teachers but i just couldn’t get it into my head how to replicate them. some people can copy others instantly, and i kinda suspect those are also people who can hear a word in japanese and instantly copy it.

im so not one of those people!!!!!

i came from a very loving and social background where my job was to act naturally and look after dying elderly people. i thought id be a great teacher because i just like helping people. and i am an amazing…. assistant teacher.

i just wanna say to all those people out there who wanna become a jet…. yes the natural teacher people who are self confident will excel, it really doesn’t matter how nice or empathetic you are to be a teacher.

but!!!!!! you can learn it eventually. every god tier teacher ive watched is just doing the same thing theyve done before. you can learn that too it just takes time and practice. and at that point its your special traits like empathy and creativity can come into play

stick with it. i did, and when i meet natural teachers now they are always happy to hear my input and new creative games are how much the students love me

even though i still can’t explain anything for shit by myself

im alt in jp and my house is absolutely fucked i need someone to help me clean it like 200 beer cans everywhere im a really good teacher do t1 all the time but my home state is beyond reckoning i can’t pay 1,000,000 for the normal cleaning service please help

do you mostly have foreign born students and adopt an overseas culture, or do you follow jp curriculum, eg moral education, clubs, and/or does your school have what im used to as an ALT in terms of jp school culture, rules, kindness of (most) students, workload, clubs etc?

just something that came up and wondered about after meeting an int. school student with jp appearance and kind demeanor recently.

basically, are you japanese style culture or american or something unique ? not trying to bash USA , and maybe esid , you hear or see some wild things about american schools , admittedly thats just reddit videos online, and jp have their share of disruptive students and difficult culture in 2026 too. its just something idk about so asking as a prospective wannabe licensed teacher

is an international school basically teaching a single or variety of subjects in english as if a real teacher in ones own country? i think people think an international school wants english teachers like ex-AlLTs but really they just want subject teachers like math etc? therefore you need to be a qualified subject teacher not just an alt or eikaiwa guy with an art degree?

im sure its a bug but never seen people type it… i watch dance videos on youtube and often want to zoom in to fill screen or more but 90% of the time nothing happens when i finger zoom

i tried a zillion cases well 4 but i investigated hundreds.

i settled on a waterproof one , it has thick rubber plastic exterior, a little tag that can be pushed in to the right to seal the lower speaker or left to not.

it has a thin plastic film to cover the screen - i attach an iPhone 16 screen protector over it which fits but makes it tougher to type or swipe sometimes.

the case snaps on and off really securely and easily but be careful if you wanna wipe it coz the screen protector is just stuck to the flexible plastic film screen cover .

the screen lip is really big and fat and i never worry about putting it down.

the back has thin film protection over all lenses but also a huge camera bump lip.

there is a pop out circular magnetic stand in the middle which cant be rotated but you dont need to ever. you can loop your finger in it if you want.

the buttons are all sealed and work perfectly.

the case is very bulky but feels SO secure in your hand not never slipperly .

in over a year i dropped it twice , once i can’t remember and once flew from my hand at the gym and bounced off like a rubber band from a direct side bounce to a metal bar.

i use it in torrential rain , while drinking and smoking, no issues.

problems:

1 the camera etc panels are almost impossible to clean. inside and out. but i use camera no problem with it on always. when i want to use it for fimograpgy i snap off the case and pocket it until im done. its very fast to do.

2 sound is a bit quiet but im not sure exactly how much more . bottom speaker is open but rest of phone is sealed tight

3 need to snap it out for phone and gpt calls

4 film screen cover means you need an imperfect screen protector size to go on it but idc. typing can be a bit harder you have to press harder

its just a 3000 or 4000 yen model off amazon japan. i really wanted an all in one protection model with a stand and screen protector and mostly waterproof but all the all in one models were really hard plastic and shatter on impact. this waterproof one is almost like rubber its amazing.

had it for 1+ years no reason for posting just drinking a beer

oh yeah i forgot i wanted one with hard plastic camera protection but they all use shattering plastic on their edges so i went with this and never feared for the camera due to huge bump and complete waterproof

after the battle, lifestream aeris portals herself out again and cloud is with “seemingly dead” aeris briefly one more time.

he says “wake up”, and aeris opens her eyes. then the scene is interrupted and cloud is returned to the cracked-sky world where she is dead. but now he knows he isn’t in the final world line yet; he still has to reach the point where he saves her.

we know the ghost aeris he’s speaking to is the lifestream/white whisper one, because she has been beaming herself and zack in and out of the previous battles, and even said in-game “i saw what you did!” immediately after cloud “saved” her. he just needs to get back there and figure out how to do it for realies this time.

so the journey in revelation is going to be about how to converge on the altar moment once again, and this time continue the scene with cloud saying wake up and aeris opening her eyes that was cut short.

this is not a problem of time travel. we will journey to where all worlds converge , the Edge of Creation . i think this will be something that seph brings us to when the lifestream converges during meteor, or maybe before. the 7 seconds is possibly the time we have to save aeris once we get to the point . and what is that point, that place, that time, that memory?

its the single most important point in reality, for Cloud, for Aeris, for Sephiroth, and for us, the player. the point where reality can be rewritten. the altar , the moment where aeris lives or dies, and thus we change fate forever.

so by whatever means, in Revelation we will reach those seven seconds again (im assuming seph eventually gets his meteor strike , cloud joins him in the final awakening, and they both get put at the edge of creation).

so it is completely unquestionable that the game is about converging world lines and memory lines (NOT timelines) towards an edge of creation where we will be able to alter fate once and for all in a way that affects cloud, the party, sephiroth, aeris, and us the players in one final way

I sort of just realized i have a baritone voice but i can still sing some of my favorite songs like Busted and Greenday and whatever, just keep it lowwww.

The thing is, singing in my range always sounded really dull and boring to me so i never really tried it. I sing kinda quiet and its not exciting to do nor hear.

Im looking for any youtube or other cover song singers who do pop or faster songs in mostly baritone, but they make it sound compelling and exciting or interesting to listen to. So nothing like slow country songs (fast and fun is good tho!)

summer is upon us yay but what did you mess up this year and how might you change it?

what new things did you do that worked? what would you recommend or avoid?

1. (me) i like to go to class 5 minutes early and play a unique english song like eminem spaghetti or a american country song or anything. but i was always messing around this year and arriving to classes just in time.

2. i said this last year about one school how i have no obligation to go to classes for lunch but i should anyway. well for that one school i started going to classes for lunch but at another school i didn’t because the lunch hall there was so soothing and none of the teachers sat together you could just chill out. but i really should push myself to go to lunches in that school too

3. moral education classes the school has it every week but i never attend- one reason is because by the time i realize its moral education i feel shitty about inserting myself after the fact. after aisatsu i feel too out of place to just show up so i should write down those classes in advance and not be late

4. i quit energy drinks recently so sleep hundred times better but almost never there for morning meetings. just being there is so important to being accepted as a member of staff because no one knows how good you are as a teacher otherwise so i think being at school by 8 is really important

5. visiting all clubs. i tend to hone in on whatever is most accessible to me and also value my going home time too much. im always burned out by the end of the day but often think after 30 minutes damn i could go back to a club. so maybe having a break for 30 minutes then being revitalized would work. its unpaid so you have to change your way of thinking

things i did well

1. haircut and daily shave and gel the hair and being happy to be there just makes every moment of the day better. everyone wants to greet you. being early and well prepared too.

2. some JETs are just different and might not like you. one jet doesn’t assign me to his classes. i always go to other classes. i never have any downtime because i take the big teachers schedule and go to other classes. im always busy

3. when i have downtime and im not making a new activity like a card game that takes 2 hours to laminate and print, i make a news poster about news from around the world i find interesting. im always busy!!!!

I like to ask chatgpt to say a poem after chatting about various hardships of living in japan.

is low bar squat literally just balanced on your back, its only held on because you are squeezing your shoulders together SUPER tight (narrow arms/grip too) so it doesn’t fall backwards, and it’ll definitely roll back off your back if you lose that tension and/or stand up slightly more horizontally?

if this is the case, then ive figured it out for the first time in my life

if not then idk what im up to
