I read comments by Muslims and Christians on Instagram on pride reels or pride topics and feel like I’m doing something wrong

28M made a previous post about accepting myself and I’m finding it hard. However, whenever I open Instagram, I see comments from Muslim, Christian even Jewish and Hindu people against LGBTQ community. I know I can’t expect the world to change over night but this really messes with my mental health. I give into their hate and feel like I have a disease, like I’m mentally sick, like it’s a choice. I feel my parents will thank that and I will have a hopeless life. I’m in such a shame and depression spiral idk what to do. Why is like like this? I already have to make peace with not being married and having traditional family, but I also have to make peace with all the hatred for us. I’m also South Asian so there’s also racist comments that affect me too. There’s no winning in this situation. I was detoxing from Instagram for a few months and I don’t know how to ignore this hate. Sometimes I really give in and think maybe I’m messed or I’m dirty and I should k*ll myself for being who I am.

I need help.

How do I find meaning/purpose in my life?

Hi guys I’m 28 M from a traditional Indian family. I am gay and I know I cannot get married to a woman and ruin her life. I also know I cannot date or get married to a man due to my family. My question is how do I find meaning/purpose in life without a partner or children? I’m coming to terms with this reality slowly as I see my friends and cousins get married and live the conventional life.

Going on Instagram makes me nervous and breakdown-ish realising I can’t have what others have. I know there’s several people who choose to be marriage free and child free but the conventional thinking of my upbringing makes me feel my life has no meaning or purpose without a partner or children. How do I change that? What do you guys do to make peace with your life?

Thank you!!

Anyone from business family backgrounds that have come out? How was the experience?

Hi guys, I am the only son from a traditional Gujarati business family. I live abroad, my family is in India and they hope I will return to help with the business.

As the only son, the responsibilities are HUGE. I have one sister who is unmarried in the AM process and in early 30s and my parents are worried sick about her marriage. My dad also has other business stress and family responsibilities and dealings.

I have other cousins that are around my age that are now getting married. I’m worrying that me coming out is going to destroy their lives. He has always had to deal with a lot of society’s taunts for different reasons. Now with an unmarried daughter and a gay son I fear he’s going to have serious health problems. Relatives have literally started inquiring and poking their nose in our family business by gossiping about why I’m also not in the AM market rn and if I’m dating someone. I’m seeing my friends (I’m not out to) also ask me similar questions.

I am out to my siblings, and they are supportive but I can’t help but feel like a loser. I can’t date anyone, I can’t come out to my parents and I feel like they will forever grieve a future for me I can’t have. I sometimes grieve my future too and I’ve made posts about in the past where I can’t have a traditional life with wife and kids.

Coming from a business family is a pain because your family life is what brings you your reputation. Without that reputation I feel like everything my father has done for so long will be a waste. He will forever lose his mind. Idk what to do sometimes.

Has anyone here from a business family come out to their parents? How has that experience been? Has your family accepted you somewhere?

How do you accept yourself truly?

28 M and literally hating myself everyday for being gay. Worried about the shame I will bring on my parents either by coming out to them or remaining unmarried and the society speculating about me.

I don’t know what the right way forward is? Someone please help me accept myself. Getting into the age where everything seems impossible.

How do I stop mourning my future and comparing my life?

Hi I’m looking for advice from older people on this thread. I’m 28M and slowly coming to the realisation that I’m gay, and I cannot have the traditional future with a wife and kids while my friends can achieve it.

It makes me feel like a loser and I’m so sad over the fact that I can’t have that happiness and neither can my parents become the grandparents of their only son’s kids.

How does one get over mourning something you imagined would happen? How do I convince myself things will be ok in life?

Are there any 30+ closeted people here? How have you managed to hide your truth from your parents with the mounting marriage pressure?

Hi people,
I am 28 M and currently the only male in my extended family to be single (there are 2 girls, my sister and my cousin who are single and 31ish).

I feel like there is a mounting pressure on me that is going to start for getting married. Tbh I don't know how to handle it. I cannot come out to my parents because they are very traditional. My sisters know about me but have told me not tell my parents.

I can see how unsettled they feel because one of my sister is not married. Being the only son there are certain expectations of me, and I don't know how to navigate this. My family is financially comfortable and I have a good job too so saying I want to be financially settled will not be a valid argument. I am losing my mind trying to figure what I need to do.

I want to ask older queer people especially gay men, how have you handled/dodged the marriage question without coming out?

Closeted and constantly feeling anxious and wanting to end it. How do I get over this feeling?

How would you react if your school or college friend came out as gay?

I am 28 M NRI who is gay (I am masculine presenting so most people never guessed that I am gay; some however questioned me since I never had a gf in my life but I used to deny) and now I feel anxious about coming out to people that have known me all my life. A couple of friends have taken it well-ish but ofc if I tell my larger school group it will become a matter of gossip. My siblings have accepted too but they fear if I tell people, everyone including friends and family will gossip and my family name will go down in the dirt (I fully understand that, our society is not as accepting).

So men (and women and others); how would you react if your friend came out to you or if you found out through sources?

PS: I do feel sad that this has happened to me. My sexuality is not in my control and neither is who I am attracted to. It sucks that I may lose people because of this but I am ok with that. What really bothers me is that my family will lose their name and status in society.

The question of my marriage will start soon and I will not have an answer to why I don't want to get married. I obviously will not be marrying a girl and ruining her life. It's such a messed up situation sadly.

If anyone else has been through this situation, please advice how you handled it.

Would a woman be okay with a bi guy?

I am a 28 Year Old guy who is bi (been involved with guys) before. If I go the AM route, I intend to be honest with the girl.

Would girls be open to being with a bi guy and my past? At what point should I disclose it?

Are there any South Asian closeted people who are choosing to marriage free?

Hi people, I am 28M Indian guy that lives abroad. I am gay and definitely don't want to be in a trad marriage and ruin some girl's life.

My parents are traditional and they can't know I am gay. The question of marriage is about to start and I want to ask:

  1. How do you avoid the conversation of marriage or convince your parents you don't want to get married?

  2. How do you convince yourself you will be ok not being married/single for life? (Open for all to answer)

I am truly going through a crises and don't know what to do.

How do you handle the pressure and society as an unmarried Indian man?

i gentlemen, I am a 28M guy living abroad who happens to be gay. My parents want me to move back to India to help out with the life there. I am not fully comfortable in my sexuality for the fear of society judging my family. My parents are religious and deeply traditional and will not accept it. I have been out to my siblings, and while they have not made me feel bad about it, they have asked me not to tell my parents at all, and state that I don't ever want to marry in my life.

Now I am okay with that, because I think it is a lesser evil. I definitely can't marry a girl and ruin her life, and I have tried finding a bi/lesbian woman but that is a no go. I don't know how I will convince them all my life that I don't want to be married so please suggest ideas for that too. I am also the only "son" so you know the kind of weight that carries in society. My main questions are:

  1. Are there any men here that are generally well to do that have chosen to remain single? If so, how have you convinced your parents that it is ok?
  2. How are your lives being single? How do you handle society's judgement and parental pressure?
  3. How do you deal with internal pressure and the feeling of losing a life race?
