Roommate Agreement

I did the room change process the other day, but ended up cancelling and staying put. Me and my current roommate haven't done the agreement. I just checked and the site still has me in the room I was supposed to move to. Should I just accept that one? Me and my current roommate have been fine without one for the most part.

Football Game

Good afternoon everyone,

I'm planning on going to the football game on Saturday, but have no idea what to expect. I've been to live games before, but those were only for basketball and baseball, and they were all professional games (one minor league game). I've never been to a football game in person, since I don't really watch it, but since it's my school, I feel like I should go to support them (there's also nothing else really happening tomorrow).

How early should I show up? I don't know if there are any game day traditions or festivities I should know about that would only work if I got there early. I usually enjoy watching warmups when I go to games, and like seeing all of the pregame stuff they have in the stadium. I'd like a decent seat, but I don't know what the lines look like to get into the stadium, and I don't want to take all the food spots away from people who may be more invested than myself.

Also, what should I bring? I know most places don't allow bags, but is water allowed? Is food allowed? I've been to a baseball park where they say no water, but as long as it's sealed and of reasonable size (like the UMass brand bottles) they'll let you in. Should I eat before? Are there breaks to use the bathroom and get food (enough time between quarters/halftime)? I've heard tailgating is a big thing for professional sports, but I doubt there will be people with grills on the bed of their trucks handing out free food and beer at the game.

I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right to get the best experience possible, since this is all new to me.

Guaranteed Transfer Questions

Good afternoon all,

I was rejected from BU this year, but given guaranteed transfer as an option for the 2026-27 year. I'm currently attending another school that is costing around $40,000 a year, since they barely gave me any financial aid. I know BU is known for being a very expensive school, and my family is well off (but nowhere close to wealthy). I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience as I have, and if so, what their financial offer looked like They say they will meet all demonstrated need, but in my experience, schools overestimate how much we can actually pay. There's also a special scholarship for GT students, btu I have no clue how that works. I'm pretty sure that their new program where tuition is free if you make under $200k doesn't apply to transfer students, so that is probably out of the picture.

Should I move before it's too late?

I'm very strongly considering moving dorms. I'm in a Southwest low rise (Cance) as a first year student, and I don't know how much longer I can do it. The constant noise outside is killing me and cause me sleep issues. I've closed the windows, run a fan, and it's still bugging me. I'm also not s very social person. I'm very shy around new people, and I'm certainly not very outgoing and extroverted. I'm also not the party type, including drinking, which seems like a pretty big part of southwest culture.

On the preference form, I specifically chose to not put southwest for any option (I think I remember putting mostly northeast) for the above reasons, and since I'm a STEM major, so my classes are pretty far away. My roommate seems nice, but we're both a bit quiet and pretty awkward, so we don't really talk much. I don't really feel like I belong in southwest, and I know that there are plenty of people who would want my spot. I see two different options on the housing portal that I don't really get the difference between, but I'll probably contact housing to ask for help.

I like the room size and layouts of my building, and the close proximity to the two dining halls is also a plus. Almost everything else is a negative however, so I'm feeling conflicted.

Feeling Out Of Place

I'm a new student here and I moved into southwest on the first day, September 2nd. I've been pretty lost on what to do on campus, which is partially my fault. I'm not a very social and extroverted person, so I have made zero new friends on campus so far, and haven't talked to anyone besides a few short interactions. I know a few people from my high school that go here, so I tried to meet up with them after I moved in. They moved in the same time as me, but we aren't living together. I went over to their place, and they had a bunch of weed in the room. I don't really care about that in general, but these people didn't really smoke in high school, yet now they're full on into it. I also constantly see people walking around late visibly drunk, and streams of beer cans and solo cups lining the paths. It seems like everyone around me is either partying, using some substance, or is talking about one of the two. I've never done drugs or used alcohol in my life, but it feels like a prerequisite to anything here. I constantly walk past people that seem like they're having fun, but I don't know if it's only because they've come back from a party, or if they took the extra step to reach out to people. I don't want to feel peer pressured into starting substance use, but it seems like that's what everyone's into. I'm sure I'm just seeing the loud minority in this case, but I feel a bit lost.

Looking for some advice

Hey all, I'm coming to you for some advice.

All on my social media feeds I see that the first week (some people call it "Welcome Week") is going to be the best time you will have in college. They always praise the events and parties that you will inevitably go to, and how everyone should get involved.

I'm by no means a social or party person. I didn't go to a single party in high school, and I don't drink, smoke, vape, or anything like that. I don't even drink coffee or energy drinks. I don't say this to sound pretentious, I'm just very unfamiliar with the whole scene, especially when it comes to my own limits and how my body will react. I don't envision myself being super into partying, since I'm not a big fan of loud places and being in a large crowd that's all crammed together.

I'm worried that I'll miss out on the college experience by not participating in these social elements that seem common at our school. I've been placed in southwest, but not in one of the big towers, so I shouldn't be fully overwhelmed by parties all the time. I don't want to miss out on the fun, social aspects of campus, but I also don't want to put myself in uncomfortable situations and push my limits physically just for the sake of it. I know college is a time of discovery, but I want to do it right, while also being safe and not overloading myself. Any help is appreciated.

Replacement Earbuds

Hello all,

I'm looking for a replacement for my Pixel Buds A Series (original version), and don't know what to get. Both buds in my current pair have lost a lot of volume (need to be turned up all the way, or even use volume booster), and one of the wing tips has broken off. I've gone through a few pairs, because they've either broken down on me like this current pair, or I've damaged/lost them, which I admit is my fault. I currently have a Pixel 10, but the issues started with my 6a.

I've always been satisfied with the audio quality of them, despite them technically being the budget version. The wing tips are nice, and they usually stay in my ears pretty well, unless I am sweating a lot or it is very humid. I'm not sure if thy usually leak sound, but I have only heard complaints about it from friends recently, once the volume issues started happening. The price is a plus as well.

What should I get to replace them? Are the 2a buds any good? I'm worried that they may not stay in my ear if they don't have the wing tips. I don't really need any fancy features, but if they come included, that's fine with me. I'm open to other brands as well if there are other good options.

Should I change dorms?

I'm a first year student who has been assigned to live in Southwest for this year. I'm a Biology major, so a lot of my classes will be in the CNS building it seems, especially since they're having me take a few environmental classes this semester as well. I looked on Google maps and it says the walk to the CNS building is around 20 minutes. It isn't too bad of a walk, but I'm worried I'll get stuck in the rain or snow on the way there. It also seems that some of the activities I'd like to do on campus like the Rec center and sports arena are also fairly far away. Would it be good for me to switch somewhere else? I know southwest has its benefits in terms of dining and events, but I'm not a very social person, and I'm not a huge fan of loud noise and parties. I've also seen that you can change rooms after the first semester, so should I do that instead?

What should I upgrade to?

Greetings everyone,

I have been looking to upgrade my phone recently, as my current one (Pixel 6a) is starting to have trouble. The charger barely stays in the hole anymore, even after cleaning out the port. I have seen many others with the same problem online, but I can't find a solution that works. I just bought it around 4 years ago, so it is unfortunate that it is already starting to not work. Everything else about the phone is still running fairly well, but I think it also may stop receiving updates soon. I'll be starting a new job soon where I will need a more recent phone due to their security standards, and they recommend getting a recent model, but the brand doesn't matter. They said anything within the last few models should be fine, since most phones made within the last 5 or so years should have the adequate specs.

I'm currently looking at either the Pixel 10 or the iPhone 17. Every phone I have had throughout my life has been an android, so I am already pretty familiar with the ecosystem, especially the Google/Pixel apps. I would be fine with switching brands, since nearly everyone I know (with maybe one or two exceptions) has an iPhone. I'm not quite sure how tough of a switch it would be in terms of data transfer and adjusting to new functions and interfaces. I also don't know if there is any benefit to switching, such as Apple exclusive functions that only work between two iPhone users.

I have seen that a lot of the newer phones are only differentiable by how they integrate AI, which isn't a concern for me. I like the circle to search function on my Pixel, and like to be able to find songs playing directly on my device, but that is mostly the extent to which I use AI (other than the occasional Lens search). I like to take pictures, especially of nature and animals, so having a strong and clear zoom is important to me.

I am open to all brands and models, but I have kept seeing the two I mentioned online as good choices. It will mostly be a personal phone, but also be used for work as well partially. I am willing to wait a bit for a sale, but I start in September, so I will need to make a choice by then.

If there is any additional info you may need to help me in my choice, lease let me know and I will gladly try to give it. Thank you all for your help!

First Year Anxieties

Greetings all,

I'm going to be starting at UMass this fall as a freshman but I'm already worried about how things will go. I'm currently signed up for the CNS exploratory track, so they have me taking a variety of classes to start. I don't have a specific major in mind, which is making me worried. I've seen people all over saying that most environmental degrees don't have any job opportunities and barely make any money after college, and I'm worried that I will fall into the same trap.

I've never really known what I wanted to do with my life, just that I liked animals and nature, which is why I chose CNS as a sort of default option. I took environmental science in high school and liked it, but I don't know how similarly the program is at this school.

I wanted to ask students who are already in the program and have similar (or closely related) experiences to my own for some advice. I want to take classes I may find interesting, but I also understand that I will need a job after school is done, especially since it is a bit costly and I will probably have to pay off some debt.

Should I switch to a different program? Is there one part of CNS that tends to have the best career outlook? Is there anything I should be doing to discover new opportunities or get better chances at securing a spot in the few existing openings? When I went to orientation around a month ago, and they said that CNS is the biggest school they have and has the most students, so I hope at least a few others have been in my same position.

Looking for a new pair or earbuds

Greetings everyone,

I am on the hunt for a new pair of earbuds, but I don't know which to pick.

My current pair is the Pixel Buds A Series (first version), and I've had this pair for almost a year now. I have bought multiple over time once they wear out, break, or get lost. My pairs always seem to develop audio issues where all of a sudden, the seal in my ear becomes way too tight/loose depending on the day, and I have to max the volume just to hear anything. It also causes a ton of audio to leak out, and I hate to bother others. This is now happening on both sides of this current pair, along with the left wing rip being broken off. I currently have a Pixel 6a, but I will probably be upgrading to either a new Pixel or an iPhone at some point in the near future.

I have always liked the rubber ear tips and wing tips, since it makes the buds feel secure in my ears, even though I usually fall between the regular and small size. I usually have a good experience with their volume and balancing until they get worn out. The low price is also a plus.

I'm looking for any suggestions to replace them, and ideally as a long term buy. I'm open to other brands, as long as they have the potential to work with both brands of phone to some capacity. I'm going into college, so things like decent battery life and noise cancelling would be great, but are certainly not required. I would like to spend no more than $150 if possible, but if a pair is really good and go on sale at some point,I'm ok with waiting for that.

Any and all recommendations are welcome. I prefer earbuds, but if a pair of headphones is extraordinary, I will consider them. Thank you all in advance!

How can I get more into the team?

Greetings everyone,

I have been living in Boston for 2 years now. I've never really been into sports, but I learned that it is a big part of Boston culture, so I have tried to start paying attention to the Boston teams.

When I was watching the Celtics and the Red Sox, I caught on pretty quickly, and was able to find my favorite player. When it comes to the Bruins, for some reason I can't latch on to one player like I did with the other sports.

I know that supporting the team as a whole is usually good, but it feels like I should have a favorite player, or players. I think it's just how fast the game moves and how quickly substitutions get made combined with the size of the roster that makes it hard for me to understand what is happening. I see the team as a whole on the ice, not individual players.

Do you all have any advice on how I can become more into one or two players on a team? For some reason it was very easy for me with the other sports, but hockey just doesn't work for me, and I don't want to just blindly pick the best players.

Looking for Recommendations

Greetings everyone,

I am looking to buy a new fragrance for the summer, and I have been looking at the Light Blue series, but specifically the women's version. I am a man, but the mens versions are all very harsh to my nose. I have tried the current EDT and EDP in store, and can't really tell a difference, but my nose isn't always the best. I wanted to try the intense version, but it is discontinued. I am looking for some nice citrus and something light for the summer, since where I live it can get pretty hot, and I work in a place where I interact with customers all day, and I don't want to overwhelm anyone.

What version would you all recommend? I'm not worried about them leaning a little feminine, since I'm not necessarily the "manliest" person around, but unisex would be preferred. I'll likely be buying from a disocunter, so the discontinued versions are still in the picture.

Jersey Fit Question

Greetings everyone,

At the recent Bruins sale, I bought a jersey that says it's an "Authen Pro" on the inside collar. The hanger said it's a Large, and it says they it's a 52 and made in Canada on the inside sticker. I managed to get it for $40, even though the tag said $500. It's the centennial game jersey, so it has the patch on the front too.

I like the way the logo is on the front, how everything feels solidly stitched, and how the materials feel. My only issue is that the sleeves are massive on me. They have a cuff at the end, so the part where it actually hits my hand/wrist isn't too bad. The rest of the sleeve is insanely wide, and makes me look like a wizard when I'm wearing it. Even with a hoodie underneath, it still feels way too big.

From what I can find, these jerseys are big on purpose, since they match what the players wear, and are supposed to have pads on underneath. I fear they the only way I can think of making it fit properly is to get it tailored. I'm worried of committing jersey foul, or even damaging the jersey beyond repair, especially on such an expensive one

Do you all have any tips for managing the huge sleeves? I can't really go down, since I'm a bit chubby at the moment, so I don't think I could get one for a good price, and if that new one would fit. Do you all actually wear the player jerseys? If so, do you wear them with the giant sleeves? The length is also a bit long, but that's far more manageable in my eyes.

What is the best team I can make?

I don't know who the best players are to combine. I have put pictures of the shoes I have as well, if that matters at all.

u/RandomInternetG_uy — 4 months ago

Scored this beauty at today's Bruins sale

It cost me $40, the tag says retail is for $500. I went back out from the main area and saw that this was the only one left in my s i z e. The sleeves are huge on me, but I know that's just how the Authentic Pro jerseys fit.

What is the best lineup I can make?

I have some shoes for the cards as shown in the last pictures. I don't have any mentors, so those don't really matter.

Jersey Question

I've never posted here before, so please let me know if this kind of post isn't allowed, and I'll take it down.

I've been looking for a Red Sox navy blue jersey recently, and have not had much luck since they've been discontinued. I found this one on eBay, but it seems to be an older style based on the name of the listing. I'm only just not getting into jerseys, so I don't know the differences between cuts and eras. I was having trouble finding a size chart online, since I didn't know what this type of jersey would be classified as, so I don't know if it will fit. It seems to say it is a size 44 in the title. For reference, my chest measures around 45-46 inches at the fullest part, and most of my shirts are around 28-30 inches from collar to bottom. I tried on a Large in current replicas in a store the other day, and it fit pretty well all around, including length.

I wanted to ask those of you who are more experienced than me what size you would recommend. I have a picture of the front and the back of the jersey attached to the post if that helps. I would like to know if you think the jersey will fit based on what you know, and if I will have to get it tailored at all.

I would also like to ask about the rough price of customization. If I was going to buy it, I am considering getting it turned into a Ceddanne Rafaela jersey, so the name and number in the back would need to be custom.

If you need any additional pictures or info, please let me know, and I'll try to respond as quickly as possible.
