Dubai job interview Red flag or New Normal?

Interviewed for a role:

9–7 working hours

Passport kept “for safety”

Might need to work beyond hours

Salary not fixed, apparently AED 4–5k

3 days unpaid trial to “see my work”

They said, “We don’t judge here, just come and join us and see.” 😂

Would you guys walk away or give it a chance?

Need advice: Should I invest AED 35K in a kiosk business in Dubai?

Hi everyone,

I need advice from Dubai business owners.

A friend bought a kiosk business in Jumeirah Golf Estates for around AED 100K. After buying it, we found out the trade license and bank account had issues and were frozen.

Current situation:

- Sales: around AED 12K/month

- Profit: around AED 2K/month

- Need around AED 35K urgently to settle license, banking, and other issues.

- One staff visa has expired and another is about to expire, so more costs may come.

My friend believes business will improve from August and wants me to invest the AED 35K. I would need to take a loan to invest.

Would you invest in this situation? What checks should I do before putting money into an existing business in Dubai?

Looking for honest opinions from business owners or anyone who has faced similar situations.

Thank you.

Hi everyone,

A friend bought a kiosk business in Jumeirah Golf Estates for around AED 100K. After buying it, we found out the trade license and bank account had issues and were frozen. There is no proper contract of the BUY & SELL also.

Current situation:

Sales: around AED 12K/month

Profit: around AED 2.5K/month

Need around AED 35K urgently to settle license, banking, and other issues.

One staff visa has expired and another is about to expire, so more costs may come.

Rent is due on AUG 1: 11,500

My friend believes business will improve from August and wants me to invest the AED 35K. I would need to take a loan to invest.

Would you invest in this situation? What checks should I do before putting money into an existing business in Dubai? This is the first time I m investing in someone else

Non-EU Professional Looking to Move to Malta – HR/Admin, Payroll & Business Development Opportunities?

I’m a 25M old South Asian professional currently working in Dubai and planning to relocate to Malta. I have over 5 years of experience in HR, Administration, and Payroll-related roles in my home country, along with 1 year of professional experience in Dubai.

I’m looking to understand the job market in Malta for Non-EU candidates, particularly in HR and Payroll/HR Payroll roles.

My questions are:
1. How is the current demand for HR and Payroll roles in Malta?
2. What salary range is realistic for someone with my experience?
3. Do employers sponsor Single Work Permits for Non-EU candidates in these fields?
4. Which skills or certifications would improve my chances?
5. Is Maltese language knowledge necessary, or is English sufficient for most companies?
6. What common mistakes do Non-EU applicants make when applying from abroad?

Any advice on CV formatting, networking, recruitment agencies, or industries actively hiring would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and insights!

Farewell, X22 💙

still remember 5 December 2025. I had lost my job and was heading to an interview, carrying nothing but hope. That day, I caught the X22 bus and I got selected. It wasn’t just a bus ride; it was the beginning of a new chapter in my life.

For more than 8 months, X22 became a part of my daily routine, taking me from Business Bay Metro to Canal Views Apartments. Through busy mornings, tired evenings, and countless memories, it was always there.

Tomorrow, the service comes to an end, but the memories will stay forever.
Thank you, X22, for being more than just a bus. Thank you for being there when I needed a fresh start.

Happy farewell, and thank you for the journey. 🚌✨

Dubai ^ a year experience living here.

It's almost been a year since I moved to DUBAI.

This year has tested me in ways I never expected. I've struggled financially, mentally, and emotionally. There were days when I questioned if moving here was the right decision. I couldn't openly talk about it with my close friends because I didn't want to worry anyone back home.

I lived in a partition room that was smaller than a washroom and paid 1,600 AED a month for it. At the same time, many jobs were offering only 2,500 AED salaries. After rent, transport, food, and basic expenses, it felt almost impossible to save or build a future.

The long working hours and daily commute made things even harder. By the time I got home, I was mentally and physically exhausted. It felt like I was just surviving instead of actually living.

I know many people say, "It gets better," but sometimes it feels like I'm stuck in the same cycle. For those who have been in Dubai for 10–15 years, how did you survive the early years?

Was the job market always this difficult, or is it especially tough now?
