5-month-old suddenly very fussy — anyone else experienced this?

My daughter is almost 5 months old and was an extremely chill, easy baby until around 3 months. Since then she has become very fussy and difficult to settle.

She cries/screams a lot during wake windows, gets extremely excited, moves her legs frantically, blows raspberries, puts everything in her mouth, gets distracted constantly, arches her back/looks behind her, and seems irritated especially at night. Feeding and settling have also become much harder—she may seem hungry but then fight the bottle/breast or keep moving around.

She is otherwise active, alert, interactive, laughing, making sounds and developing normally.

The biggest issue is honestly my anxiety. I have started watching every single movement she makes and analysing everything, constantly worrying that normal behaviour could be neurological. I never used to find parenting this difficult, and now I feel anxious almost every day.

Did anyone else's previously chill baby suddenly become extremely fussy/active around 4–5 months? And did it eventually settle down? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences.

Please help — terrified about possible infantile spasms

My baby is 4.5 months old. Today, shortly after waking, she made about 4 very gentle forward head nods in a row, with maybe half a second between them. It wasn’t a forceful head drop or a whole-body jerk. She was sitting upright, looking around/aware, and then seemed completely normal.

This has happened only once and I’ve never noticed anything like this before.

I’m absolutely terrified because she is in the peak age for infantile spasms and I keep reading that they happen in clusters.

Does anyone have experience with gentle head nodding like this that turned out NOT to be infantile spasms? I’m planning to show her pediatrician, but I’m really struggling with the anxiety right now. Any experiences or advice would mean a lot.

4 month old suddenly screaming nonstop 😭

My baby has suddenly become SO irritable. She screams/crying most of the day, wants to be held constantly, and right now she’s exhausted but refusing to sleep and just screaming even while I hold her.

She’s also taking smaller feeds and pushing the bottle/breast away after a little milk.

Is this normal 4-month regression/teething/overtiredness? What actually helped your babies through this phase? I’m honestly exhausted and desperate for some advice. 😭

My 3-month-old has suddenly stopped latching, and I feel heartbroken

I’m feeling absolutely devastated and could really use some perspective from other moms who have been through something similar.

My baby girl is 3 months old now. She latched within the first hour after birth and initially had no trouble latching. But over the first few days, my milk supply wasn’t enough and her weight kept dropping. After 3 days, our doctor advised us to give her expressed milk so she wouldn’t have to expend too much energy trying to feed.

I started pumping and tried giving her expressed milk by spoon, but she wasn’t taking enough and her weight wasn’t increasing. Eventually, our doctor advised us to introduce a bottle. She immediately took to the bottle, and thankfully her weight started increasing. Since then, I’ve been giving her expressed breast milk along with formula whenever needed.

For a long time, she would still latch occasionally—mostly for comfort and especially at night when she was sleepy. I would sometimes give her half a feed at the breast. But she seemed to prefer breastfeeding only while the flow was fast. As soon as the breast became softer and the flow slowed down, she would get frustrated and cry.

Now, suddenly, she has stopped latching completely.

She cries when I put her to my breast, even when she is sleepy. She won’t suck at all. I keep trying gently, but she just refuses.

I’m absolutely heartbroken because I felt that at least those sleepy feeds meant she was still getting some breast milk and the antibodies from it. Now even that has stopped.

I know logically that feeding her expressed breast milk is still breastfeeding, and that formula has helped her grow. She is around 6 kg now, compared with 3 kg at birth, so I know she has gained well. But emotionally, I’m struggling so much with this.

I also keep hearing people around me say things like, “Bottle babies don’t get as attached to their mothers.” And honestly, sometimes I feel like I can see it.

Sometimes she doesn’t look at me when she’s playing, even when I call her. Sometimes she doesn’t seem to want me for comfort. She doesn’t seem to be comforted by me the way I imagined she would be.

I waited so long for her. I got pregnant after years of marriage, multiple miscarriages and almost four years of fertility struggles. She is absolutely everything to me.

So when she cries at my breast and sometimes doesn’t seem interested in me, I feel like I’ve somehow failed her or failed at being her mother.

I know this may sound irrational, but I’m really struggling with these feelings right now.

Has anyone else experienced a baby completely refusing the breast around 3 months after previously latching?

Did your baby eventually latch again, or did you continue exclusively pumping?

And most importantly—can a bottle-fed/exclusively pumped baby still have a deep, secure attachment to her mother?

I really need to hear from moms who have been through this. ❤️

Edit: she is also taking less milk than usual and not taking much from the bottle as well . She has been fussier ethan usual I am assuming something to do with hers stomach . Normal wet diapers and active otherwise . But not drinking much milk as she used to earlier . Also cries while passing gas

Transitiong from pumping to direct breastfeeding

Hi fellow mom's,

Need guidance . I am a FTM highly anxious overthinking mom. My baby is 1 month old.

She was born at 3 kg and 3 days she lost 300 gms. Initially my milk supply was not enough so the doctor recommended formula , also asked to express and give milk to the baby so the baby does not have to spend energy on sucking .

We followed that , expressed milk calculated her daily intake and gave her formula when my milk was not enough. O have also continued offering breast to abby when she seemed cranky or needed me for sleep .

But for proper feeds every 2-3 hrs we majorly were giving expressed milk in a bottle..

Today I went to the pediatrician and her weight was calculated to be approx 4 kg

The doctor asked me to wean off pumping and start breastfeeding directly.

I want to do that but i am worried about what If she will not get enough milk , how would I know if she is full or actually taking milk and not just comfort sucking ।

What if she loses weight ?

Please advise what to do. I don't have any elderly women support or guidance and don't want to run to the doctor for evrything

Pumping/breastfeeding/top feed

You could make it a bit clearer, structured, and easier for Reddit readers to follow:

Writing

Hi everyone,

I’m a new first-time mom, and my baby girl has just entered her 4th week. I had a C-section, and during the first few days I was producing only a very small amount of colostrum.

In the hospital, the nurses helped with latching, and my baby was able to latch right away. For the first two days, I exclusively breastfed her. However, she started losing weight, and eventually we had to supplement with formula because my milk supply wasn’t enough.

When we were discharged, her weight had dropped from 3 kg at birth to 2.7 kg. The doctor was concerned and told us that if she lost more weight, she might need NICU admission.

The doctor advised me to give expressed breast milk plus formula supplementation. He felt that direct breastfeeding was taking a lot of effort from her while she wasn’t getting enough milk, which was contributing to the weight loss.

Since then, I’ve been pumping and feeding her expressed milk by bottle. This helps me track exactly how much she is taking each day, and I supplement with formula whenever my expressed milk isn’t enough. Usually she gets 2–3 formula feeds per day.

Now at 4 weeks old, she weighs 3.4 kg, so she has gained weight well, and I feel like this feeding method is working for us.

She still latches occasionally for comfort, and sometimes I breastfeed her directly until she falls asleep, but the majority of her feeds are expressed breast milk plus formula from a bottle.

My question is: Is it okay to continue with this approach, or should I try to transition back to direct breastfeeding?

As she gets bigger, I feel like my milk supply is struggling to keep up with her needs. I’m constantly worried that if I rely more on direct breastfeeding, she won’t get enough milk, won’t feel full, and her weight gain will suffer.

I also feel guilty about not directly breastfeeding her more often.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did you continue exclusively pumping, combination feeding, or successfully transition back to nursing? I would really appreciate any advice or experiences.

Thank you!

38+2 today , scan required?

Hi all

I just need some helpful advice to figure if I am being over stressed.

I am 38+2 weeks today and had an NST yesterday which was fine. Having proper movements as well.

This is my rainbow baby so I am overly concerned about everything. I had my last scan at 36+5 which showed a good Doppler and a weight of 2.8 kg. After that I had two NST's at each appointment they were fine.

My placenta has been grade 3 since 32 weeks. Earlier doctors said we wouldn't delay further than 15 may if we saw growth decline.

But since last scan was ok and nst have been fine she is planning to induce me by 21st may .

I am worried about placenta functioning , it has been 11 days since the last scan and she has called me for another scan after 3 days . But I am thinking what if placenta is not functioning properly and it will cause harm to baby or placenta suddenly stops working .

Should I get a scan today or wait till next week . Another thing is my weight has not increased in the last 15 days . So Itsy also worrying me that it might be my baby's weight might also not be increasing . Cause before that every 2 weeks I was seeing some increase in my weight.

Please advise I am very anxious at the moment
