Ask me anything (relacionado com o tópico lol)

Which one is the Cyprus sausage?

Yeah so I ordered both sausage and pastourma and now I don't know which one is which and which one is the typical Cyprus sausage. 😑🤣

There's one I did not like, so I am hoping that was not the Cyprus sausage. 😅

Things I am noticing in Cyprus as a Portuguese

I am visiting Cyprus from Portugal for a week and here are the things I noticed to far

  • 32°C here does not feel the same as in Portugal, feels more like 40°C, first thing I noticed out of the airport 😅

  • Lots of Arabic speaking men (can't say I saw a lot of women though I am sure they exist), which I guess its not so surprising given how close it is to the Middle East

  • Lots of Russians. I even went to Berezka a Russian store today. I had been to Bulgaria before and do not remember seeing this store even though they have the biggest amount of stores there

  • Lots of other slavic speaking people that may or may not be Russian, I can't tell the difference 😅

  • Spanish is not as common as in other places. Even in Bulgaria they had tours in Spanish. Today I went to ask for a pamphlet to a tourist provider and since I don't even bother asking for Portuguese (I know it never exists lol), I asked for Spanish but they did not have! Had Russian, even Hungarian (that's a surprising one), but no Spanish. Weird lol Granted I did see a group of Spanish people visiting St Barnabas church but much rarer than in other places

  • Did not meet any Brazilian tourists yet. I always meet a Brazilian somewhere, not yet here

  • There's so many construction in Larnarca and also so many empty stores. Why? I was expecting the stores would be all filled due to tourism.

  • People can just lay in the sunbeds for free after 5pm. I didn't quite understand this yet, but today in Nissi Beach I went around 4pm and nobody charged anything. Also the prices are regulated. I've seen sunbeds in Rovinj Croatia being rented for 90€ and was worried because here you don't have pine trees like they have there, so the happiness I felt when I found out it's only 2,5€ per item. I bet this is AKEL work 🤣

  • Fridge magnets are not so common in souvenir shops specially in the Turkish side I visited

  • I visited Famagusta ghost town and I swear I do not understand the Turkish logic. Either occupy or don't. What's the point of having an entire city totally empty and decaying? Why didn't Turkish settlers move there? I do not agree with this invasion but if I was a Turk invading and promoting settlers to move in to occupied area wtf leave an entire city empty (and a beautiful coastal town even)? More: now they open it to tourists? One of the most bizarre things I ever saw.

That's about it. Since I had visited Greece before the sound of the language and the food is not new to me. And since I had visited Malta, the driving on the left was also not so shocking.

Trip to Turkey

Hello! I visited all the Balkans already except Turkey. So I am planning a trip for next year (this year I am already fully booked lol) which would be somewhere around September.

What do you think of route 1:

  • Fly to Istambul from Portugal

  • Spend 3 days in Istambul

  • Fly to Antalya from Istambul (are there any other alternatives to flying? Because damn Turkey is big all bus routes I see are 7h-8h)

  • 3 days in Antalya

  • Fly to Capadoccia (again if there's alternatives to flying I can do it)

  • 2 days in Capadoccia

  • Fly back from Capadoccia

The trip would be around 10 days though I can extend to 12 if needed. I want a mix of History, nature and some beach days. I wanted to also include the Gallipoli battlefields, Troy and Pamukale but for that I'd have to extend it to 12 days and probably cut down Capadoccia. Either that or do a guided tour for the entire trip which could be an option.

What do you think? And also are all those destinations safe for a solo woman?

How should I distribute my time Prague-Bratislava-Vienna in late Sept

I will arrive in Prague on a Friday afternoon, have one entire week and then fly back from Vienna on a Tuesday which leaves 10 full days.

I was initially thinking to spend 5 days in Czech Republic, and spend a night in Karlovy Vary but I found out Vienna has a thermal complex much bigger so I will cut that off and do a spa day there instead. So now I was thinking 3 days in Prague then go to Bratislava on day 4, one full day in Bratislava, then go to Vienna on day 6 and spend the rest there which gives 4 days and a half in Vienna given that one of the days (or at least a big part of it) I will go to the spa.

What do you think of this distribution?

I am interested in politics and history (both contemporary as well as medieval or even older than that) as well as nature. Not interested in partying or drinking. I am not obsessed with food but like to try typical dishes so I try to do one meal a day in a restaurant. Given that, what activities would you suggest? Can also be a daytrip as long as its not too far (I will include one to Terezin from Prague).

Tips for cleaniness freaks

I travelled already around 18 countries solo so I am not unexperienced but I only ever travelled inside Europe and would like to diversify soon. I started by staying in hostels and before I knew about the existence of bed bugs even stayed in some that were probably infested (I didn't get them but then later saw reviews of people mentioning that and I do remember a girl I met got a lot of insect bites but back then I didn't know).

My cleaniness standards increased with age. Now for the first year of travelling I didn't book any hostel, just private rooms. I am by all means not a princess, the house I grew up in is a country house from the 80s never remodelled so I am not expecting a luxury suite for what I am willing to pay (usually ~40€ a night). But despite the fact my house is not new the thing is I know every corner of it, I am used to it and even if its not always 100% tidy, it's still home. There's familiarity and I know the people who live in it.

This doesn't happen when you just arrive in a tourist accommodation that you're only staying for a couple of nights and don't know who stayed there before, so sometimes I freak out a bit with cleaniness, mainly bed bugs. In the first few nights when I lay in the bed I feel suspicious and a "psychological itch" (like maybe some air blew a hair in my arm and I am like "omg its a bed bug", dramatic I know lol). Curiously I was completely devoured by mosquitoes in some places and got massive allergic reactions but I am not that afraid of that. Its mainly things like lice, bed bugs, fleas (that I never got) that scare me because of the fear of bringing an infestation home.

Does anyone has this too? And what tips do you follow to stop being so anxious about this? Mainly if you travelled outside of Europe (because in Europe I am used to Booking and Airbnb where I can read reviews) and did for example overnight trains or other type of less common accomodations or off the beaten path routes that probably do not have so much offer, I'd like to hear your tips.

Museums or guided tours about pre 20th century history

I will be visiting the three Baltic capitals plus an island from Estonia and would like suggestions about pre 20th century history of the region, can go up until pre historical times. For 20th century history I would be interested only in museums with a complete unbiased view of events. For example something I found interesting was the pagan roots of the tribes that settled first in Estonia then gave rise to the Baltic tribes and also the part about the Lithuanian Grand Duchy.

In Tallinn I won't spend so much time because of the island trip but still maybe I could squeeze in something.

Any suggestions for museums, historical spots or guided trips?

I wish Gemini was my doctor

I've been having a very interesting conversation with Gemini about my hypothiroidism and how to lose weight with it and it explained stuff no one ever did. For example it showed me a chart about how much the Basal Metabolism Rate counts for one's weight comparing to thermogenesis by exercise and I had never seen that chart before.

My real human doctor just prescribed me semaglutide and Gemini explained I should have my thyroid hormone levels checked after 6-8 weeks. The doctor did not prescribe me exams for that! But anyway it is just 22€ so I will probably pay it myself. Thank dog for National Health System lol

In any case I am actually quite happy the doctor actually suggested that herself. I was thinking if I should ask but decided I shouldn't because I was afraid it was too much since I am just in the lower range of the first level of obesity. But then she suggested so it was like a gift from heavens. Lets see how it goes!

Gemini then explained how the guidelines suggest the ideal time to be on this med is 12-15 months instead of just 6 months as well as the tritation protocol. It explained how it will help reduce inflammation but also thay this might worsen my constipation so it gave me a protocol for the first few weeks to handle my flares of constipation followed by diarrhea that I usually have and might become more common since semaglutide decreases stomatch emptying.

It also spoke about the relation between my deficit in vitamin D and folic acid and my thyroid condition. And it did all of this while being very nice, not arrogant or calling me a lazy fat person.

Anyway Gemini explained more to me than any doctor ever did for only 8€/month (and I was not even using the Pro version only the Enlarged Flash so its probably free that model I was using). Now that big tech knows how f*cked up my health is, I will hire it as my doc Lol
