9850X3D tweaking advice. Safe voltages and PBO settings?

Hey, just swapped my 9600X for a 9850X3D. How aggressively can I push the undervolt, and should I lock the voltage given the 9800X3D burn issues?

My old setup with 9600X (Asus X870 board): 1.24v, PBO set to Enhanced in AI Tweaker, and per-core CO from -12 to -26 (best to worst cores).

I want to unlock the limits, undervolt, and let it boost freely when needed like my old chip. Is the 9850X3D pretty dialed in out of the box, or has anyone found some tested tweaks? Just looking for safe numbers so I don't fry this thing.

Thanks!

9850X3D and PBO. values to undervolt? safe to unlock power consumption?

hey so i went from 9600x to 9850x3d and i’m wondering how aggressive i can push the uv and if i should set the voltage to a specific value considering there’s some 9800x3ds burning out there. my 9600X had 1.2v, PBO in AI tweaker (asus board) set to Enhanced and CO between -12 and -26 set per core from best to worst.

i’d like to remove the limits, have uv and let the chip boost higher whenever it needs to. my 9600x used pbo to boost higher and allow full power consumption when needed. idk if this chip is like perfected or something so i’m looking for advice.

has anyone spent some time tweaking these values? i don’t wanna run unsafe values considering the burn situation.

ASUS ROG Pulsar. Opinions on buying for long term vs OLED?

So my main display right now is a 1080p 240Hz ASUS TUF monitor. GPU is 5070 Ti. I'm looking to grab a 1440p display to use as primary but I'm in a position where I can spend good money only for a week (credit card zero interest 6 monthly payments limited offer), so I'm trying to get the absolute best for long term daily usage.

Gaming is 50% of what I use my PC for, so getting an OLED makes me concerned about static Windows/Program UI elements burning in the panel and IPS seems to be a good alternative. I also don't care about HDR.

Only thing attractive for me about OLED is motion clarity, but G-Sync Pulsar tech is available and it seems to have way better motion clarity than OLEDs at any framerate without having the common OLED drawbacks. I searched and found the ASUS ROG Strix Pulsar XG27AQNGV for around 550 USD equivalent in my local market.

Did a bit of research and I noticed the display is quite thick and uses almost double the power my current one does, and reliability could maybe be an issue? I don't know really, so.

What do you guys think could be the better pick in my case?

1080p to 1440p but with a twist.

So i have a 1080p 240Hz 24.5” monitor and i need a secondary one. I’m trying to decide between buying a cheap 1080p 24” to use as secondary or getting a 1440p 210Hz 27” to use that as my primary instead.

I have a 5070 Ti so no performance issues. However, i currently play using DLDSR in the 1080p monitor. Resolution resulting in 2880x1620p. That looks really good as an antialiasing alternative with DLSS quality.

Price-wise I can go for the 1440p, but i’m not sure if it’s really a noticeable upgrade compared to 1080p panel running at 1620p.

Has anyone been into a similar situation before? What do you think?

Current 1080p is the ASUS VG259QM5A and 1440p one is the ASUS VG27AQ5A.

Scroll wheel on my G603 loosened up after 7 years.

so yeah it died. i was using it and the wheel became increasingly louder and then I felt something came loose. after that, the scrolling stopped working and spinning the wheel lost all resistance.

is this thing fixable? i have the tools to open it up, but i’m not aware of what the issue could be exactly.

DDR5 Micron D Die, shaved 20ns from EXPO and got FCLK 2200 with 9600x

Specs:

- R5 9600X w/PBO per core undervolt tuning, max clock 5500MHz, 90 degrees thermal limit.

- ASUS Prime X870-P board.

- 64GB (2x32) Crucial Pro DDR5 tuned to 6000 CL36 (EXPO in pic). Micron D Die 16gb Dual Rank.

I got a 40mm fan pointing to the ram, temps top out at 56 degrees. CPU tops out at 80-88 while gaming for long sessions.

I've been tuning my voltages and timings for 7 months now and I think I got it stable. The RAM originally had 100ns of latency in AIDA with the EXPO profile. Now it is consistent between 79.5 and 80.5, tested on 20 runs.

PYPrime also gets a consistent score of between 9.600 and 9.700. Cinebench R23 between 17000 and 17900, mostly in the middle.

Passed TestMem5 twice, ran CoreCycler for 6 hours. Latency in safe mode goes down to 72ns.

May not be the best latency/bandwidth, but it's definitely better than EXPO and it seems consistent enough. What do you guys think?

From 9600X to 7500X3D. Should I swap?

So my mom bought a gaming PC from a coworker to give to my bro. The CPU in it is the 7500X3D. I currently have a 9600X running with PBO and CO stable at 5.5GHz with full load, temps top out at 78°.

I was offered to swap my CPU with his if I want to, so in this case price is not relevant.

I have a 5070 Ti and I use my monitor (1080p 240Hz) and my 4K TV to play games.
Competitive (Rocket League, CS2, etc.) in the monitor and Casual (RDR2, FH6, etc.) in my TV.

I’m running RAM (expo at 5600CL46) manually tweaked to 6000cl36, so i’m thinking the IMC could be a factor.

He got an RX 6700XT included and wants to play at 1440p mostly single player games and minecraft with mods.

In one hand, the 9600X has higher clock speeds, but in the other, the 7500X3D has the extra L3 cache and depends less on the memory speed. But there’s the IMC situation as i’m running 2x32 Dual Rank memory.

I’m not sure if it would be beneficial for me and/or him to swap, what do you think guys?

Armoury Crate/ASUS bloat. Is there anything like GHelper but for desktops?

Basically that. I want to get rid of all ASUS programs and I’m not sure how to get similar features. Is there an alternative similar to GHelper in laptops that I can use for Desktop and not lose any functionality? GHelper is the go-to for laptops, so I wonder if there is a go-to for ASUS motherboards.

Board is ASUS PRIME X870-P

Just pulled off my CPU cooler. Was it making enough contact?

Idk how to tell and of course i'll replace the paste, just wondering if i can mount it better this time or if it’s fine. That’s it really. Thanks!

u/RegularTech575 — 2 months ago

RAM cooling, how would you put a fan here?

So I got a 40mm Thermalright fan to cool my RAM and bump up the tREFI.

I’m trying to figure out how to mount it so it’s effective and doesn’t move around. I’ll plug it into the AIO pump header and set it up in BIOS (I checked already and I can change speed)

Fan config gonna be:
Front 3x140mm Intake
Top front 1x140mm Intake
Top rear 1x140mm Exhaust
Rear 1x120mm Exhaust
If I remember correctly, this is the Noctua recommended layout.

Cooler is TR Peerless Assassin 120 SE, board is ASUS PRIME X870-P

I also got some metal things similar to the ones that hold the CPU cooler’s fans

Alguien necesita intercambio de RAM DDR5? 128GB (4x32GB) por 2x48 o 2x64

Hola gente, hace harto rato me compré 4 sticks de DDR5 Crucial Pro 32GB. Timings 5600 CL46.

¡Gracias!

I think I made a mistake buying RAM

Hello guys!

So I managed to grab 128GB of Crucial Pro DDR5 5600 CL46 (4x32GB) last year for a really good price.

I built my PC for the first time and I made the mistakes of 1. not prioritizing 2 sticks because 4 is harder to run, 2. not checking the memory support on the site of the motherboard. and 3. not checking the die of the RAM, currently I have Micron D-Die DR.

Currently I’m running 2 sticks totaling 64GB but I need to run the whole 128GB now for work and LLMs and I’m really doubting if I should sell this RAM and get better timings 96GB (2x48GB) or if it’s possible to tweak my timings to not lose a lot of performance in games while also using all the capacity I have.

Maybe tuning the timings of my current RAM is not really worth it, since I’ve seen little to no information about tweaking Micron D-Die.

I don’t know guys, call me dumb if you want to but, I really don’t know what’s the best decision to make right now.

My current specs:
Asus Prime X870-P WiFi board
Ryzen 5 9600X
64GB (2x32GB) Crucial Pro DDR5 5600 CL42
Asus Prime RTX 5070 Ti OC
1000W MSI PSU
TR Peerless Assassin for CPU cooling

This is my first build and I know I may have done a really dumb mistake, so mock me if you want.

I'd really appreciate some advice and/or help.

Thanks!

AM5 CPU to handle Quad DIMMs w/tweaked timings?

Hello guys!

So I got 128GB of RAM (4 Crucial Pro 32GB 5600CL46) sticks a while back before the market situation peaked (Thank you Steve from Gamers Nexus).

I’m looking to grab a CPU to handle 4 sticks with manual timings without issues. I’m aware DDR5 is more complicated to run with 4 sticks.

The sticks are Micron D-Die so I can tweak the timings a bit to at least 6000MT/s.

What AM5 CPU would be ideal for this? My current parts are: 5070 Ti, Asus X870 Board w/4 RAM slots, 1000W MSI PSU, Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE for CPU and 5 Arctic P14 Max for the case, good airflow.

I don’t want water cooling to avoid running into any issues long term.

Should I get a temporary CPU and wait for the next gen or is there a good option nowadays?

I'll use my PC for Gaming / Local LLMs / VMs / Light video editing, so I'm willing to go high end if there’s a huge benefit there that won’t get any better in the near future.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Micron D-Die users. Did BIOS update help with tightening up your timings?

Hey guys. So this is my rig:
Ryzen 5 9600X PBO -30 CO
RTX 5070 Ti
ASUS PRIME X870 board
2x32GB Crucial Pro DDR5 (EXPO is 5200CL42 and 5600CL46) with stable OC currently at 6000CL36 and FCLK 2200
1000w MSI PSU

My current BIOS has AGESA ComboAM5 PI 1.3.0.0a and I saw there’s an update to PI 1.3.0.1.

Were you guys able to get better timings with this update? I’ve seen a lot of people reporting that but I don’t know if micron d-die benefits at all. If it does then i’m willing to update and try to tweak a bit but only if it’s worth it.

Thanks!

hello! i currently want to boot windows and linux. windows on main m.2 and linux on secondary m.2.

i’ve tried to dual boot before in some old laptops but the bootloader is always a mess. i get GRUB i think it’s called or the windows boot loader without linux showing and i can never get proper UI to show.

i saw there are some programs to manage bootloaders but they seem to be really outdated and i couldn’t find a clean way to manage it.

wanted to ask to people dual booting. what’s the method you settled with? is there any go-to utility? or is the easiest way to just swap in BIOS?

thanks in advance!
