I reverse engineered the PP dash for RHD

Ford never made it in RHD so I needed to right this wrong. Used a MetroY Ultra scanner to scan my trim piece and the gauges, then reverse engineered them in Fusion and QuickSurface. 3D printed in ABS and then wrapped in alcantara.

Made a RHD dash to fit PP aux gauges in my Mustang

In the US, the Performance Pack Mustangs have two auxiliary gauges above the nav screen. One for oil pressure and one for vacuum. UK and EU cars don't get these, even though all of our cars are Performance Pack spec. To fit them to a LHD car is easy - just buy and import a dash bezel from a US PP car, cut the dash up a bit, fit gauges, and off you go. In the UK this is impossible because Ford never made the bezel in RHD form.

I needed to right this wrong but how? Well, I have access to 3D scanners as well as 3D printers. I'm also OK at CAD. Let's start.

First up, let's scan the PP gauges:

I used a Revopoint MetroY Ultra for this as it's the most accurate scanner I have.

https://preview.redd.it/4uko7imarrjh1.png?width=3134&format=png&auto=webp&s=e80c0085d4e83e1331a39386b7c581691448fc21

In to Fusion and I built up a model of the gauges using the scan as a reference.

Now on to the bezel:

In to Quicksurface to build the complex shapes, then in to Fusion to make a modification to allow the fitment of the gauges. This needed the outer vents to be moved apart 10mm and mounting lugs etc to be made up to accept the gauges.

https://preview.redd.it/9g7f1jitrrjh1.png?width=2524&format=png&auto=webp&s=e228541b47ddb34aa6558637d3303eec6ae721d4

Cool. My 3D printer can't print something over 1M wide so I needed to split it up in to smaller pieces. Printed in ABS so it doesn't warp in the heat.

A quick test fit:

Sticking it all together:

Sanding and filing it smooth:

I then wrapped it in alcantara:

Then I took a saw to the dash to make space for the new gauges. Also fitted the wiring by taping in to the APIM behind the NAV screen.

Fitted and working:

I also wrapped the rest of the silver trim in alcantara to match:

https://preview.redd.it/bu3016lhsrjh1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=efe881f619e52ed8e0b00fb81db5075c9b6044cb

MyColour works and the vacuum gauge works. The oil pressure does not because Ford decided to fit just an oil pressure switch to UK cars rather than the transducer that is fitted to US cars. I will rectify this shortly.

Any news on the 500W PSU?

I'm using the 330W and it's not powerful enough to run my Lenovo Legion Gen 10 in full performance mode.

I ******* love this car

Of the 22 cars I've owned over the last 30 years, none of them has made me feel quite as good as when I'm driving this on a summer day with the roof down. With the suspension mods it's now even better and handles like it should. Every drive is an event. Yes, it's no supercar but it feels so special in its own way.

I know a Mustang is nothing special for my US brothers, but for me in the UK it's like nothing else we can buy.

Chasing a rattle in my new car for a year. Found it yesterday.

A year ago I bought a new car and it had an annoying rattle from the steering wheel whenever there was a rough road surface. Very annoying. It went back to the dealer a couple of times but they could never find it. I asked my wife about it but she said she’d never heard anything.
Last week I drove it and the rattle was gone. I couldn’t work it out but figured. Cool. It’s gone.
Yesterday it was back and I finally realised what was causing it.
You see, around the time I bought the car I also bought a new watch. Last week I wasn’t wearing it because it was in for a repair.

Yes, it was the metal strap on my new watch that has been rattling all this time.

I’m an idiot.

That's better

Fitted Eibach Pro-Kit springs and bumpstops. Also fitted the Steeda IRS lockout kit. I'm very happy with how it sits now. Oddly, it seems to be less fidgety over bumps and has less scuttle shake. I expect a fair amount of that is because of the IRS lockout rather than the springs though.

Gotta love GFN

Waiting for my son so thought I’d play a little FO4. Works amazingly well on 4G.

Revopoint Pop4 vs Einstar Rockit

I put Pop4 through its paces and compare it to Einstar Rockit. Laser accuracy measurements, object segmentation demo, and 3d gaussian splatting.

iPad battery life - devices failing after 2 years.

I'm an IT manager for a college, and 2 years ago the leadership team made the decision to go iPad for 1:1 devices for students. We bought 500 iPad Gen10s but now, after nearly 2 years of use, many of them have batteries that no longer hold charge. We started tracking these failures earlier this year and have had over 70 devices now where the battery gets to 75% ish and then the device turns off. There are many more that we don't know about due to students not reporting.

I've got students walking around with USB battery banks and cables because their iPads won't last more than an hour without being plugged in.

We have yet to observe this behaviour with the 150 Gen11 iPads we have, but they are all less than a year old at this point.

We use the iPads heavily as our whole school has embraced digital teaching and learning. The iPad is now an integral part of a child's kit bag and every child takes notes digitally on Goodnotes using an Apple Pencil.

Is this a normal lifespan for these iPads? If so, we're going to have to come up with another solution because we cannot afford to replace large chunks of our estate every 2 years.

Scanned my son with Pop4 3DGS mode

He moved during the scan so there's a few artifacts. Pretty impressive nonetheless.

u/Rilot — 3 months ago

Pop 4 is a bit good.

I literally just got it out of the box and did a laser scan. No prep, no setup, just grabbed an object I've scanned before, threw it on the table and scanned.

Had a play with the 3DGS stuff too and that's awesome. I need to understand it some more though.

More to come.

Stupid design rear calliper

Yay! Failed the MoT (UK legal road safety test) on the usual S550 Mustang issue of handbrake mechanism has seized on the passenger side. Stupid bloody design that you would have though they would have fixed for the 2018 facelift, but oh no. Gotta have an S650 for that.....
Oh well, car now has a "do not drive" due to the failure for brakes so I need to wait. A cheeky call to Motorsport and Performance has a calliper hopefully on its way to me ASAP.

I don't understand. I have a set of Mic minis and I recently bought a set of Mic3s. I was hoping that the Minis would connect to the Mic3 receiver on channels 3 and 4 but alas, they aren't compatible.

This seems really stupid and not a technical limitation seeing as all Mics can connect to the Mic mobile receiver, the Osmo Pocket, and other DJI cameras. Just the stand alone Mic3 receiver cannot do this.

I was hoping the newly released Mini2s could do it but no, they connect to everything else but not the Mic3 receiver.

Such a lovely feeling trackball. I love how preceise it is compared to the MX Ergo S I'm normally using. I just wish the gestures worked the same way the MX Ergo ones do.

For example, on MX Ergo I can have different gesture sets on different buttons. I have browser navigation gestures on one button, and window navigation gestures on another button. I suppose, you can have many more gestures on a single button with the IST rather than just up, down, left, and right, that MX Ergo supports.

Great trackball though.

I spun up my Avata 360 for the first time yesterday and was really disappointed to discover that you cannot use the head tracking feature to look around when using the FPV remote 3. You have to be using the stupid motion controller.

It's a real shame that this isn't a feature and kind of ruins the 360 for me. I can't unlearn decades of flying with twin sticks. The motion controller is just too imprecise.

The sad thing is, I can't see any technical reason for this limitation because it's a 360 degree camera. It's not like head tracking on Avata 2 or other drones where the entire craft rotates when you move your head.
