Need help a song - *possible spoiler*

In the S13 episode, Dedicated to the One I Love, when Paige is in surgery for the gunshot wound, the show did a montage to a song I haven’t been able to find anywhere. Can’t even find the name of the song, but the chorus lyrics include “like everything else in my life, this is gonna have to wait…”

Anyone have info about the song? Thanks in advance ☺️

Name that scene! (bonus points for naming the characters in the scene)

“We’re gonna run away! Away! We’re gonna run away!!”

Whenever I rewatch the entire series…

I start keeping notes of things I want to post here about. Here’s my question of the day:

What are your favorite scenes of the individual characters? Here are a few of mine:

Abby: the scene during S4 when Janet Baines is questioning Abby about Ciji’s murder and tells her that Val confessed.

Donna Mills played that scene SO perfectly. The look of surprise which turns into a slight smile and barely suppressed laughter before she asks, “ValENE?” THEN she starts giggling (and when Janet reacts, Abby says “It’s just *like* her,“ yadda yadda).

I still laugh out loud every time I watch that scene. I have several other Abby scenes on my list (especially Donna and Tonya in the pond after Gary “dies,” Donna and Tonya during the “Olivia on drugs” storyline, etc) but the scene at the police station is always my number 1.

Gary: Ted Shackleford is a better actor than he gets credit for (imo). I love all his scenes with Olivia and also the twins (he was great with child actors), but my all-time favorite scene is the iconic S4 drunk Gary “We’re hurting people! We’re ruining LIIIIIIVES!!!!!” The way he trips over the mic stand (?) when he barges in yelling “ABBY!!!” is a thing of beauty! Ted’s acting as drunk and/or hungover and/or detoxing Gary was sooo good, IMO. Another favorite Gary scene is when he finally boots Abby out (S5) paraphrasing: “I don’t want reminders that I ever loved you!” Great scene.

Val: where to start? 40 years later, I’m still trying to decide which of Val’s alter personalities is my favorite (it’s a toss up between Verna and “hermit crab murderer” Val). Seriously, there are so many iconic Val scenes, I can’t pick just one or two (or even five). I love all her scenes with Lilimae and her scenes with young Olivia. Her scenes with Mac are also sweet (their friendship is one of the best surprises of the entire series, imo).

Greg: IMO, Bill Devane’s best acting during his run on the series is during Laura’s last few episodes and the immediate aftermath of her passing. He plays the broken, grieving Greg so well. I also adore his scenes with baby Meg (reading the stock reports to her 🥹).

Karen: ok, I have a favorite Karen scene, but it has nothing to do with her “acting.” I think Michele Lee is a terrific actress, and she nailed every scene she was in, except this one, which is my favorite Karen moment: I’ve seen people call it her “swan dive,” but I’ve always just called it “that time Michele Lee had to pretend Karen was shot and falls to the ground” scene. LOVE that scene and it never gets old. (Whenever I watch the scene in The Godfather 3 where Michael Corleone’s daughter gets shot on the stairs of the opera house in Rome, I think “she must have watched on repeat Karen’s ‘being shot’ scene on KL”).

I could go on all day, but (thankfully) I won’t.

Now it’s all y’all’s turn to chime in 😁😉

Unpopular opinions

Ok, this is almost sacrilegious, but I thought Mac and Janet Baines had hot chemistry. As a 40+ yr devotee of Mac & Karen, I feel kinda bad for even thinking it 😂😂. Here are more unpopular opinions:

I think Abby and Peter had as good, if not better chemistry than she and Gary. And Ben had better chemistry with the reporter he worked with (can’t remember her name) than he did with Val. And finally, Paige had *much* better chemistry with Tom, than she did with Greg.

That said, I can’t imagine Karen with anyone other than Mac (although, in hindsight, they yelled at each other way too much; Mac especially). And even though it might be the most codependent relationship in tv history, Val and Gary belong together.

I’m sure this post will be downvoted into oblivion, but if anyone else has unpopular opinions, please chime in 😁

Kingsdown Matresses

I bought a Kingsdown mattress 20 years ago, shortly after having major back surgery. It had great support and a wonderful pillow top. It was a great mattress for the first 15 (!) years. And when it wasn’t quite as “great,” I added a 3” mattress topper, because I was worried I’d never find another mattress as good as this one. Well, five years after adding the topper, I’m starting to have back and joint pain. Soooo…. It’s finally time for a new mattress. I’ve been looking online at Kingsford, but can’t find anywhere nearby to test one.

My question to anyone reading this: are Kingsdown mattresses still as great as they used to be? They’re still expensive but I know that doesn’t necessarily mean “quality.”

My main issues are back and joint pain, and I’d also like something that doesn’t sleep “hot.”

Thanks in advance for any and all advice 😊

“3rd Spaces”

I keep reading about how kids today don’t have “3rd Spaces” (places to hang out other than home and school), and realized how nearly all of ours are disappearing (or gone):

- rollerskating rinks

- malls

- teen dance clubs

- $1 movies

- drive-in movies

It makes me sad to think of the limited options for today’s teens to congregate. Do kids even dance anymore? American Bandstand and Soul Train were must-watches on Saturdays (so we knew how to dance in our teen discos 😋). I know rollerskating is still a thing, but many of our local roller rinks have closed (as have many bowling alleys). Malls are becoming extinct which is really sad - most of us had minimum wage jobs in the mall and it was another way we socialized with each other. And all of the drive-ins in our state have been closed down for at least a decade (thankfully there’s still one just over the border in one of our neighboring states). Teen discos were great in the day, but nothing ever replaced them. And the $1 movies (which we called the Dollar Shows) are long gone.

Would any of those lost ‘third spaces’ even appeal to tweens and teens today?

Meet Bill! 😁

We adopted him a week ago and already can’t imagine life without him. And our two other furbabies seem to like him, too (at least for now… 😂).

Question…

I always had normal cholesterol levels, until my “bad” cholesterol spiked in one year (from one physical to the next). As I was in my mid-40s, my GP thought it might be because of perimenopause. But, she also tested my thyroid levels, because thyroid disease can also cause high cholesterol. Bingo! After more testing, she diagnosed me with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and put me on thyroid meds.

And while the meds stabilized my thyroid, they did nothing to lower my cholesterol. When my GP retired five years later, she referred me to another GP who specialized in women’s health issues. Every year she has pointed out my high cholesterol, but never suggested a statin.

My dad and my brother also had extremely high cholesterol, and died (much too young, in their 50s) of heart issues. So, when I hit my mid/50s, my GP sent me to a cardiologist for a complete heart work-up. He did an echo and a CT scan with contrast dye. When it was over, he said my heart had zero anomalies and I had no meaningful plaque in my arteries. He gave me the best score (0) on the scan and told me to quit worrying 🤔

Anyway, none of that addressed my concerns about my high (bad) cholesterol level, so I asked him if I should be on a statin. He told me they don’t recommend statins for people with such clean heart test results. (Regardless, when I got home, I immediately did an online search for studies recommending that approach, but couldn’t find what I was looking for. So I talked to my GP and she said she trusted the cardiologist implicitly and would take his advice about not prescribing a statin.

My question is, has anyone else here had the same situation and received the same advice? If so, for how long does that advice apply? Is there an age at which I should start taking them regardless of his advice (and if my bad cholesterol level continues to be way too high)?

ETA: I’m mindful of my sat-fat intake, but my bad cholesterol has remained stubbornly high. My main concern is the longer I go without being able to lower it naturally, the more likely I am to develop artery-blocking plaque. Just because my heart health was good in my 50s, does that mean if I keep doing the same things (diet-wise, etc), it will *remain* good as I get older (despite my high cholesterol)?

'I've just ruined their lives': Nashville bar owner's property tax bill soars from $129K to $589K

"With no income tax, Tennessee can seem like an attractive option for American families — and businesses — looking to lower costs. However, as the Financial Times reports, a resulting boom in the state's capital, has driven up sales and property tax. "

Why in the world…

did the writers make Karen so incredibly insufferable during the Richard/Laura hostage situation? She was more concerned about Richard than her pregnant best friend. She was absolutely ridiculous (which is hard to admit considering she was one of my top 3 favorite characters of the entire series). She was always more progressive than the rest of her friends in the cul-de-sac, which makes her actions in that episode even more ridiculous. (Maybe Laura’s insufferable behavior during Ciji’s murder investigation was payback 😁).

Sometimes the writers really got it wrong.
