Derivative works of Serial Experiments Lain are legally allowed until July 2028

Today I learned that the creator and NBCUniversal "grant permission to individuals residing in Japan to use derivative works of the animation series "serial experiments lain" (hereinafter referred to as "this work") free of charge, for both commercial and non-commercial purpose."

Chinese > English sounds

In Mandarin, do the words for ‘love’, ‘duty’, ‘humanity’ and ‘virtue’, phonetically sound like ài zé rén dé?

There is a Korean War anecdote that Chinese soldiers were instructed by leaflets to say those words when approaching American soldiers who would interpret them as "I surrender".

Can anyone confirm (or deny) the pronunciation of those words in Mandarin?
FWIW, Google translate pronounces those words as Ài, zérèn, rénxìng, měidé

The Biggest Blunder - A joke about Einstein

A short silent film. Open to comments and suggestions on how to do better. To be clear, I am not a physicist so that math is probably way off.

Volunteers revive abandoned game. Anti complains about the splash screen.

Unpaid volunteers spend hundreds of hours to revive an abandonware game from decades past, then they give away the game for free. The anti can only think to complain about a single splash screen.

AI Arcade Games?

So this person wants to make AI-enabled arcade games and open an arcade with them, I think. (There might be a bit of a language barrier here). Looks like he has a prototype, but there is no video footage.

"The camera reads the player’s face and clothing. The microphone picks up their voice. Because in the kind of game I want to make, you are part of the game."

Maya Vase K554 - Dance or Music Notation?

The images above are of the Maya vase K554. The scene illustrated on the vase looks to be a dance/ritual, with the figures making hand gestures to each other. Also, the vertical glyphs are repetitive and probably indicate a chant.

The interesting part are the black dots and lines painted at the base (highlighted in red). A speculative interpretation is that these markings are describing dance steps or rhythmic foot stomping, or perhaps a form of musical notation indicating the length and/or relative pitch of the chanted syllables.

Unfortunately, the rollout photo did not clearly capture the base of the vase and we can only clearly see the markings on one side of the vessel in the side view.

So, the question for this august sub are:

  1. Are there any other examples of the dance/rhythm notation known from the Maya world?
  2. Are there any other roll out photos of this vase that would show more of the bottom of the vessel?

Maya Vase Database entry:

The vessel is part of the collection of the Kimbell Art Museum, Ft Worth TX.

The Arcade Machine Knew Her Biggest Regret - Short Film shot in an arcade

A short film about an arcade machine that... well, just watch the short and sweet film. Many classic machines are visible, apparently it was shot in a real arcade, Retrovolt Arcade per the credits.
Mods: if not appropriate, my apologies, please delete.

Piffaro is an established Philadelphia based band which has been playing medieval and renaissance music for a long time. Their latest concert series is Eagle and Empire, Music of Colonial Mexico (repertoire not listed). One live performance will include the Ollin Yoliztli Calmecac Aztec Dancers.

https://piffaro.org/concert/eagle-and-empire/

https://www.ollinyoliztlicalmecac.org/blank

For those unable to attend, a stream of a concert will be made available, though it is not free.

FYI, I am not affiliated with the band or dancers in any way, just thought this would be of interest to the members of this subreddit.
