What is a fair amount to be refunded for a filthy and unusable outdoor space? [CA]

I live in San Diego and I have to take a staycation because I'm having repairs at my apartment and I'm paying just under $500 for two nights. I checked out the outdoor space and it was advertised as a very nice little space with your run of the mill wicker patio furniture. It's actually filthy and looks worse than furniture that you'd find next to a dumpster in an alley, it's very obvious that the cushion covers have never been washed despite there being a washer and dryer 15 ft away. I certainly would not want to sit on them. One of the tables actually had a giant hole underneath the glass top, and the other table was absolutely caked in dirt and dust and the glass top was sitting crooked. There was a chair that was upside down on top of a garbage can and a few other things just sitting around that looked really sloppy and messy. I think it's absolutely nuts, the people who own this unit must never come here in person because what the hell? Additionally, the microwave handle was completely unattached on the bottom and would just swing back and forth, the ceiling lights in the bedroom had no cover either, but neither of those things are a huge deal to me.

What would be fair for me to ask to have returned? It's blatant false advertising.

Men who don’t ask you out first or who suggest simple dates are not low quality or low effort

I (35F) will suggest meeting a man if I meet him on a dating app as soon as I realize I’m enjoying the conversation. I enjoy choosing a simple first date because I like being in control of the situation. I love a park date, and suggesting that we both make a snack to bring is super fun. In my experience, men absolutely love it and appreciate it when I do this, because they aren’t used to it. These men are not low effort, they don’t hesitate to pay if we get a coffee or something, they pay for future dates, they communicate well, they show interest, etc.. One of these men was even excited to assemble an IKEA bed for me on our fourth date, and he bought the groceries for me to make dinner for us while he did that. I didn’t ask, and I had my card ready to swipe and he just swooped in paid before I was able to. Give it a go!

ULPT Request: Construction workers think they’re entitled our parking spots

They’ve been parking in our private spots on private property despite one of my neighbors telling them several times that they can’t do that. Well, I caught wind when I caught the same guy for the second time, parked in my spot, and I don’t play that game. I didn’t realize how often they were doing it because I usually park on the street, except on street sweeping days. The audacity of this guy to park on private property because it’s street sweeping day as if the tenant who pays for that parking spot isn’t going to want to park there.

Today I saw a cone in a street spot and shortly after he pulled up in his personal vehicle. I’ve seen them do this several times and I keep moving the cones. This guy in particular thinks he is entitled to both our private parking spots as well as the public parking. I took two cones that they use today.

No, it is not tow away signs that are being placed there. It’s just a cone and it’s for his truck so that it’s convenient for him. They’ve tried to do this overnight as well. Even when there are tow away zones for construction during the day, they can’t do that overnight, it’s always from about 7 AM to 5 PM.

I’ve also seen them selling cocaine to each other and slamming beers before going back to work, so, we’re all sick of their shit.

I’m sending pictures into the Get it Done app for my city so hopefully he’ll be ticketed, but I also want to be petty because, fuck you.

Update: They did have to paint over the no parking sign that they painted on a tarp, and they didn’t try to leave the cone in a spot overnight tonight, neither of which are legal. If they were allowed to have that signage, they would have it.

Dogs licking me is a nightmare sensory experience

I do pet care and one thing that is an immediate no is licking. The sensation is an absolute nightmare for me. The feet licking is the absolute worst. It drives me nuts when dogs are trying to lick my hands while I’m harnessing them because my hands have to be next to their face. I hate it so much. Obviously I never become angry with the dog, I just tell them no and try to move away from them.

I think this is a hot take because a lot of humans seem to love dogs licking them.

Keep seasonings off the counter and right where you need them.

I use this suction cup shower caddy to keep my seasonings off of the counter because I have a very limited counter space, and I don’t have to step away from the stove to grab them.

The audacity. I’m actually speechless

Haven’t spoken to either of my parents in about nine months.
This followed me (35) for the first time ever simply saying that I do not like the way she keeps her house and that I’ve never told them how much it affected me growing up in a house like that, which was a hoarding home. Animals, things, junk.
Last time I was there the room she had me staying in, had cat shit on the bed, and it used to be where the litter boxes were, and there were still litter on the floor and poop smears. She shrugged and said that she was going to get that. I ended up cleaning it up. I only visit about once a year, keep in mind. God forbid she has a room without any cat shit in it once a year.

Anyway, she immediately started crying and said “ I guess I ruined both of your lives and I should just be done” and then hung up. Crazy reaction.
I texted her and told her that she cannot do that because that’s being manipulative. Everybody makes mistakes, but she can’t respond to me like this.
“I’m done, deal with your father”. Bonkers.
This is an extreme oversimplification, but my sister and I both have bipolar disorder as well as borderline personality disorder, and we both started exhibiting symptoms very young. That’s crazy looking back, that’s not normal at all. I was a very depressed child, and alone most of the time.
I have just in the last few years since being diagnosed begun to put the pieces together and understand the gravity of the neglect and poor decisions on their part.
It’s weird because it wasn’t explosive. I call it silently volatile. Except for the times my dad would explode and throw one of us up against the wall or my mom would burst out in tears and try to make us feel bad for being kids who needed our parents.

Anyway, the audacity of asking if I’ve gotten over whatever the issue is. I cackled when I read that because, get fucking for real. She slept my childhood away. Zero memories of her doing any activities with me. She decided I needed therapy when I was about 13 but she sat in on the sessions and I remember three distinct times where she scoffed or rolled her eyes at something I said, even one time when I was crying. Looking back as an adult, I can see how incredibly inappropriate, insensitive, and just poor parenting that was. At the time it was just my life.

I could go on for ages. Long story, short, knowing that this is her mentality nine months later makes it incredibly easy to continue to go on with my life without them. They’re nothing but dead weight and I am happiest when I don’t feel weighed down anymore.

Put your finger down if…

And then they launch into this long ass story. I see this on videos online a lot. Just tell your story. It’s never a short story either. It’s always a long ass story, and they always say “you”, instead of “me” or “I”. Just say “ I went on a cruise” instead of “ put your finger down if you went on a cruise…” and they use “you” the entire long ass story. I catch myself doing that sometimes, but I always go back and correct it because it annoys me. I know it’s a pretty common habit for a lot of people, but nonetheless when you tell an entire story that way, it clearly is a pet peeve of mine.

When people incorrectly use av1-10 rating scale.

Typo in the title. *a 1-10 rating scale.

The scale does not pertain only to looks, so please nobody get upset about that. Most people only use numbers 5-10 and if they rate something a 7, it’s implying that it was bad. If somebody rates another person’s attractiveness a 7 out of 10, it’s generally meant to imply that they are unattractive. 7 is above average so it would actually be a compliment. 5 is average. You don’t enter bad territory until you’re below 4. 10 is one itty bitty tiny half step below perfect, which is damn near unattainable.

Microwave alternative for small kitchens

I got this at Ace Hardware and I forgot that if I paid for it, but it was not a lot. With the amount of food I have in there (leftover Chilaquiles), it will take 15-20 minutes to heat up. It’s definitely not as fat as a microwave, but it’s small and you can easily tuck it away in your cupboard when you’re done, and it’s portable so you can heat something up at home and take it with you. Mug for scale.

“ I hate small talk “

9 out of 10 times, they hate it because THEY do it. Anytime I have ever seen that or “ I like deep conversations over small talk “, the man is boring to talk to. He small talks even when I provide plenty of material and good conversation. I don’t play 21 questions. I don’t even have to ask somebody where they live, what they do, what food they like or anything of the sort to have a great conversation with them, so I’m not the problem.

One time I said to a guy “ wow, you don’t add much to a conversation do you? “ He replied, “ I’m used to everybody being dry on here. “ Sweets, you ARE the dry people.

People who say they don’t want to small talk (particularly on dating apps) are the ones who are guilty of it. It’s a pretty widespread idea that you HAVE to small talk, and most people don’t like it but they do it anyway.

Surface table parts up for grabs

*Surface tablet. I have two chargers, a stylus, stylus tips and a keyboard for a Surface tablet. The tablet itself no longer works at all. I had a pro8 so the keyboard won’t be compatible with every model, so just double check it would be compatible with yours if you want it. I had to replace the keyboard twice since I had my tablet and they are not cheap so it’s good to have an extra one on hand, and it never hurts to have extra chargers and all that other stuff. Send me a message if you want them and we can meet up on campus or something.

My tablet screen needed replacing so I chose a repair shop on university Ave in city heights to replace the screen. They have really good reviews, so I was surprised because every step of the way has been frustrating for me. Long story short, the tablet doesn’t turn on now.

I brought it in, they said they could order the part and replace it when the park comes in. They said the part will be here Wednesday. Wednesday came and went. Thursday came and went, I didn’t hear from them. I called Friday morning. I had to call several times before somebody would answer. They said the part would be in at 9:30 that morning. I come in at 1:30 PM, they look surprised to see me, because the part is not there.

I go back to the next day, Saturday. They take the tablet and they had said previously that these usually take about an hour or an hour and a half. Well. Two and half hours goes by and I’m getting pretty annoyed about the whole situation because I really don’t like being told things that sound good, but are not true such as “ the part will be here x day” or, “ this will only take an hour”.

It was on when I walked out of the shop. When I got home, I put it on my desk, I came back to it a couple hours later, and it would not turn on. I figured it needed to charge, nope. Won’t turn on.

I’m a student, finals are coming right up and now I have to worry about not being able to do schoolwork, getting in contact with them Monday and figuring out what’s going on. They would probably have to open it back up and try to just see if anything looked wrong with it, which I’m not even sure I want them to keep touching it. I’m guessing I will have to just go and shell out another thousand dollars to Microsoft for a new tablet now even though I have one that’s otherwise perfectly functioning, and that has a brand new screen, but won’t turn on because something got fucked up while the screen was getting replaced. The irony of this is that I was trying to replace it before the screen completely shit the bed. Ha, isn’t that hilarious.

So much for supporting local businesses. Guess I’ll just go shell out 1000+ bucks to Microsoft even though I have a surface that is otherwise completely perfectly functioning. Hopefully I get the majority of my money back.

I can acknowledge that I have a pouch of fat on my lower stomach that is rather pronounced at times. Nobody has to jump to “there’s nothing there!” Or “oh , stop”, or “talk to me after you’ve had a kid”.

I made a joke on my Instagram story about it. I zoomed in on it and said that fupas are for slapping, and I slapped it. I thought it was funny, and nothing alluded to me being unhappy about it.

Same goes for when people acknowledge things that they are not good at or skills that they don’t have because they don’t have an aptitude for it. People can acknowledge things like that. It’s not black-and-white, it doesn’t have to be something that makes them feel really good about themselves or something that makes them feel really bad about themselves. It’s just an observation. You don’t have to try to convince people that they can be good at absolutely everything. Sometimes it’s better to acknowledge the way somebody feels, and it’s actually invalidating that person to tell them that the way they feel is not correct because you would rather them feel better about it.
