GM Senior Closures/BIW Engineer Salary

Hi everyone, I’m looking at a Senior Closures/BIW Design Engineer role at GM in Michigan. I have ~10+ years of automotive BIW/closures experience and extensive Siemens NX experience.
For those currently at GM, what base salary range should I reasonably expect for this type of role? Also, if you know the typical GM level/grade, that would be helpful.
Thanks!

Ford Body Closures Architecture — SG8 Salary?

For anyone working at Ford in Body Closures / Architecture, what is the typical salary for an SG8 position?
I have around 11 years of strong BIW/closures experience and am curious what base salary would be realistic for this role.
Thanks!

NEXUS denied due to previous 7A1 refusal – any chance of reconsideration?

Hi everyone,
My NEXUS application was denied, and it appears to be because of a previous **7A1 withdrawal/refusal of admission** to the U.S.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Were you able to request reconsideration or successfully reapply later and get approved?
I’m now commuting between Canada and the U.S. for work, so NEXUS would make a huge difference. I’d really appreciate hearing about anyone’s experience or advice.
Thanks!

SSN not received after 2 weeks

Applied for my first SSN 2 weeks ago on a TN visa. I live in Windsor, Canada, and had it mailed to my Canadian address. Still haven’t received it. Letter says I should receive it in 2 weeks. But no mail yet.

Has anyone else experienced this? How long did yours take? Should I visit the SSN office again ?

New Hire Question – Family Health Insurance

Hi Ford family! 😊
I’ll be joining Ford soon and was wondering—if you have family health insurance (employee + spouse + 2 kids), about how much gets deducted from your paycheck each month?
Just trying to budget before my first paycheck gives me a surprise. 😅 Thanks in advance!

Why don’t Ford and GM hire engineers on TN visas?

Is this actually a company policy, or am I just seeing a hiring trend?
I’m curious to hear from:
Engineers currently working at Ford or GM on a TN visa.
Hiring managers or recruiters who know how these decisions are made.
Canadians who applied and were either accepted or rejected because of TN status.
Specifically:
Do Ford and GM generally avoid TN hires?
Is it because of internal HR/legal policies, security clearances, or long-term workforce planning?
Has this changed recently?
If you were hired on TN, what role and organization were you in (product development, manufacturing, software, etc.)?
I’d appreciate any firsthand experiences rather than speculation. Thanks!

HATCI employees

Anyone here currently work (or have worked) at HATCI in Michigan, especially in engineering?
I’m joining soon as a mechanical engineer and was hoping to get some honest feedback on:
Work-life balance
Engineering culture and management
Overall experience
How the employee vehicle lease program works (discounts, eligible models, and whether it’s worth it)
I’d really appreciate any insights from current or former employees. Thanks!

Has anyone successfully obtained a TN Visa using a Morningside foreign degree evaluation?

Hi everyone,
I’m a Canadian citizen applying for a TN Visa under the Engineer category.
I have a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from foreign country, and instead of using WES, I’m getting my degree evaluated by Morningside Evaluations to establish its U.S. bachelor’s degree equivalency.

I’m wondering if anyone here has gone through a similar process.
Did you use a Morningside evaluation for your TN application?
Which port of entry or USCIS did you apply through?
Was the evaluation accepted without any issues?
Did the CBP officer ask any additional questions about the credential evaluation?
Would you recommend Morningside based on your experience?
I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who used a foreign engineering degree for a TN under the Engineer profession.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

TN Visa with Canadian Master’s + Foreign Bachelor’s – Is a WES/IEEE credential evaluation still required?

Hi everyone,
I’m preparing to apply for a TN visa at the Detroit–Windsor border and would appreciate hearing from anyone with a similar experience.
I have:
A Bachelor’s degree from a foreign country (outside the US and Canada).
A Master’s degree from Canada.
My TN profession requires a bachelor’s degree, and my employer has prepared a TN support letter.
My question is: Do I still need to obtain a credential evaluation (such as WES, IEEE, or another recognized evaluator) for my foreign bachelor’s degree, even though I also hold a Canadian master’s degree?
Has anyone successfully obtained TN status under similar circumstances without a credential evaluation? Conversely, has anyone been refused at the Detroit–Windsor border because they didn’t have their foreign bachelor’s degree evaluated?
I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences, especially if you’ve recently applied at the Detroit–Windsor port of entry. Any advice or insights would be very helpful.
Thank you!

Senior Engineer – Canadian Master’s + Foreign Bachelor’s, Need Credential Evaluation?

I’m a Canadian citizen applying for TN status under the Engineer category for a senior engineering position with an automotive OEM in Michigan.

My education consists of:

A bachelor’s degree in engineering from outside Canada

A master’s degree in engineering from a Canadian university

For those who have recently obtained TN Engineer status at a land border or pre-clearance airport:
Did CBP ask for transcripts from your foreign bachelor’s degree?

Did you need a credential evaluation (WES or similar) for the foreign bachelor’s degree?

Was the Canadian master’s degree alone sufficient for TN Engineer qualification?

I’d appreciate hearing about any recent experiences, especially from applicants with a Canadian graduate degree and a foreign undergraduate degree. Thanks!

What salary should I negotiate for a Senior BIW Closures Engineer role at Ford in Michigan?

My background:
10 years in the automotive industry
9 years of mechanical engineering experience focused on Body-in-White (BIW) and closures
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (4 years)
Master’s degree in Engineering (2 years)
Currently working in automotive engineering
Experience with product development, BIW structures, closures systems, engineering release processes, and cross-functional collaboration
International experience.

For those familiar with Ford’s engineering pay scales in 2026:

  1. What base salary range would be reasonable for someone with my background?
  2. What should be my target salary versus my minimum acceptable salary?
  3. How does Ford compensation compare with GM and Stellantis for a similar profile?
  4. What signing bonus, relocation package, or annual bonus should I expect to negotiate?

I’d appreciate input from current or former Ford engineers, hiring managers, or anyone familiar with Detroit-area automotive engineering compensation.
Thanks!
