Bungie is doing “The Taken King” and “Forsaken” all over again with Marathon

In the blog post

“Season 5 we're looking at bringing the whole ecosystem of (PV(P)VE) play together and evolving our weird sci-fi world in new ways”

Season 5 would be 1 year after the launch of Marathon.

They way they describe it, it seems as though Bungie will be taking all the learnings from Season 2-4 in terms of alternative modes and game types and weaving them all together in a cohesive package for Season 5.

Both the Taken King and Forsaken were Destiny and Destiny 2 expansions that released a year after the games came out and they both fundamentally changed and expanded the games scope for the better.

Marathon is a very exciting universe. But Bungie can make games so much bigger than just a single mode. Destiny on its own is like 10 games in one. It appeals to so many players. It seems like Bungie is wanting to do the same with Marathon but on a different universe where loot is scarce and it is meaningful.

Marathon can be more than an extraction shooter the same way destiny is more than just a “looter shooter” they could make it into something of its own entirely.

Arena PvP with Charter as our announcer would be so peak

They could make a season where they include a 4-6 map pack based around existing environments and have Charter from Arachne as the arena announcer. The maps could be similar to what Destiny does for their crucible maps (same environments as the planets but built specifically for arena PvP).

Hell you could make it a trials type of activity where you risk your loot and if you lose the match you lose your gear but if you win you take the enemies gear at the end of the match.
