Some really friendly smokers were kind enough to let me tag along. Good times!

Charging my EV with F5000LFP!

2,400 watts of solar in, 4,800 watts out via 240V AC charger set to 20 amps. I'm capturing about 10kWh / day. Feels great to power my EV with sunshine!

Electric vanlife, powered by the sun.

I'm still perfecting and optimizing my setup, but it already works pretty well: 2.4kW of solar feed into a 5kWh solar generator which I use to power my fridge, starlink, etc.

When the battery is full, I use a level 2 AC charger to dump excess energy into the Brightdrop's traction battery. Rinse and repeat.

Admittedly it would take days to fully charge the 173kWh battery this way. But I arrived at camp with 52% SOC, and over the course of the weekend I was able to add almost 10kWh, courtesy of the sun. (note- I arrived at camp with the solar generator already fully charged)

So, not a full charge, but I did add enough SOC to get me home without the need to hit a public charger.

If you need me, I'll be living in my van, down by the river! ;)

Anyone power their EV with sunshine?

I'm still perfecting and optimizing my zero-emission setup, but it already works pretty well. 2.4kW of solar feed into a 5kWh solar generator which I use to power my fridge, starlink, etc.

After reading about IONNA for months, I finally had a chance to visit the IONNA Rechargery in Mount Vernon, WA (right off I-5 on S 5th St).

Plugging in my General Motors Brightdrop van into one of the 400 kW Alpitronic chargers was smooth and easy. No app needed, just tap a card and charging begins in seconds.

The extra-long cord and articulated arm on the Alpi unit are very useful for reaching the charge port on my van. (Tesla V3 cords, for example, are usually too short unless I angle in.)

In the 13 minutes it took me to walk over to the Wendy's for some Baconator fries, I went from 47% to 62% state of charge for the bargain price of only $.39/kWh. (In contrast, the nearest Tesla Supercharger was billing $.54/kWh.)

High-power, strategically located, dependable, affordable infrastructure like this is the future of EV charging.

Right off Interstate 5 for quick on-and-off access.

Steps from Wendy's and 7-Eleven for a quick bite or break.

Dog-friendly, so my 'branch managers' can stretch their legs while I give the Mothership a quick top-up.

As public charging networks continue to scale across North America, Ionna is setting a new benchmark for hardware reliability, site design, and overall driver experience. I know this reads like an ad, but I swear I don't work for Ionna! 😅

The homeless situation in Camp Long is once again approaching critical mass. It's so sad that it takes violence and death before the city reacts.

Frustrating also: all of the time, money and resources spent sweeping the park a few months ago, followed by hours of volunteer work hauling out all of the trash and drug paraphernalia, only to slide right back to where we were. The open air drug use, environmental destruction and lack of action from the city are so disheartening. How bad will it have to get before something changes?
