Anilist API again down for the 3rd time now this month
I’m not against AniList at all, it’s genuinely one of the best anime tracking/community platforms out there.
But this is now the 3rd API outage this month, and it highlights a bigger issue for 3rd party app developers.
Apps should never rely entirely on a single provider, especially AniList alone.
Developers really need backup sync/support options like
- SIMKL
- MAL
- Kitsu
- Anime-Planet, etc.
so users aren’t completely locked out whenever AniList’s API goes down.
AniList as a platform is great, but
- the API ecosystem has remained heavily tied to its GraphQL setup for years
- and repeated downtime/issues are probably going to happen more often in the future.
- Redundancy and multi-provider support should honestly become standard practice now.
