UPDATE: FAFSA/ Financial Aid (Call with Financial Aid Office)

So, after waiting for over an hour and a half, I was finally able to get through to someone at the Financial Aid office today. Here's what they told me:

  • There's a group of students who haven't been awarded their Financial Aid because there is a processing error. Usually, FIU processes Financial Aid automatically, but because of the Big Beautiful Bill and the changes it made to FAFSA, processing was put on hold for 3 months and that broke something with the system.
  • The processing department is working on processing this group of students manually, so it should appear in the MyFIU portal by the end of the week.
  • This delay in processing will not effect what grants you receive nor the amount. The grants are based off of the first come, first serve of when FIU received your FAFSA for 2026-2027. (FIU Grants are still subject to availability, and all grants will depend on your SAI from the FAFSA)
  • Keep an eye on your student email as they will send you an email when your financial aid awards are ready to view.

I hope this helps!

For those that took/ are taking the new CMP exam, how did you study/ are studying?

I’m taking the CMP in October, and I’m reading/annotating the manual, have a quizlet with terms/definitions and some study exam questions I found online, and I’m studying on Pocket Prep.

I’m a bit worried that I’m not studying enough, and since my work experience is limited (I just barely passed the qualifications to apply by a few months), I wanted to know how you guys are studying/studied for the new exam?

For the Women here! How do you have the money to look good?

Hi! Honestly, just what the title says. I'm 21F and I've lived in Miami my whole life. Maybe I just grew up really poor but seriously, how do women here have the money to look so good practically all of the time? Plastic surgery, Botox, nails, hair, tans, pilates, nice clothes, nice smiles, etc... are all so EXPENSIVE, especially here. So I'm genuinely wondering, how do you guys afford it on a regular basis? Please, tell me your tricks lol

Edit: For the people saying "Men/Sugar Daddies," that can't be the case for everyone. Growing up, even the young girls around me had their nails done, their lashes done, etc....

First time going to a concert movie!

Hi everyone! I’m so excited for the upcoming movie. This is my first concert movie ever so I’m a bit nervous but overall excited!

That being said, I don't know what the “rules” are. I was wondering if there is any concert movie etiquette my group and I should know/look out for?

Should I reach out again?

Hi everyone, first post here. So, I (22f) have (had?) a best friend, E (23f). E and I were best friends all throughout highschool and now early adulthood. For context, E and I have always been incredibly dependent on each other, she would come to me for counseling and I would console her every time. I had a bit of an unrequited crush on her and was satisfied with remaining friends (she knew this). However, in the last year, I noticed that she was increasingly ghosting me, sharing embarrassing stories of me to others (while right in front of me), and would never call me or text me or even hangout with me. Throughout our friendship, she had always been like this, but it’s become even worse in the last year. All of this to say, we had a huge discussion where I told her how I felt increasingly used by her and how I was upset at the things she was doing. I also said I might need to take some space to gather my thoughts. She told me it wasn’t her intention to hurt me and that I should take space if I need to. This discussion was a couple of months ago. Since then, we have barely spoken and it’s always been me who began the conversation (which is the norm for our friendship, she never initiates our conversations nor our get togethers). I‘m not going to lie, it has been incredibly hard not talking to her or knowing anything about her life. I’m considering reaching out to her again, but I don’t know if I should put myself in that position again. My question is: if you felt this way towards your best friend, and you guys essentially stopped talking, what would you do?

How to be a normal person after deconstruction?

My question is basically the title. For context, I am a 22f and was born and raised into the Christian Evangelical church. I renounced my faith a couple of years ago but I still go to church weekly due to familial obligations. My family is/was very prominent in the church, and I myself was part of basically every ministry I could be in. I was a teacher, youth band member, lighting & sound team member, welcome team member, women’s ministry singer, choir member, etc… I deconstructed around the age of 16/17 but I haven’t been able to live a normal life because I still need to keep my deconstruction and personal beliefs secret.

As I’m starting my journey into young adulthood, I’m finding it harder and harder to be a “normal” young adult. I’m terrified of intimacy (thank you purity culture), I’m not interested in partying/drinking mainly because I was never allowed to and so I don’t see much of what I’m missing, it’s hard to make friends my age because I don’t know any cultural references or normal things people my age do (I was banned from watching or listening to anything that wasn’t Christian media), dating is difficult because I’ve never had a relationship (I was told to just wait for my perfect man to walk right into my life as ordained by God - dating wasn’t even allowed in my youth group) and I have no idea how to flirt or attract people, etc…

So my question is: How are you able to be a normal person after deconstruction? It’s hard to ignore the fact that my entire upbringing was based on a cult, so I just genuinely don’t know how to be normal and come off as someone who isn’t “sheltered.”

Edit: Thank you all for your advice! Just to clarify: I live in a Hispanic household and city. In my culture, so long as you live under your parents roof (which I do), you have to follow their rules no matter how old you are. You can be 30, married, and living with your parents but they’ll still expect you to listen and obey when they tell you to do something. Going to church in my household is not a discussion, it’s a mandate, and since I live with my parents, I also have to go or else I will be ousted and I cannot afford that right now. Also, the reason I talk about intimacy and drinking is mainly because that’s what most people in my age group do in my city (we are a very well known party city, especially during Spring Break).
