I keep seeing people blindly buying monitors just because of:
- 180Hz / 240Hz
- “HDR”
- Big brand name
And then complaining about ghosting, bad colors, or terrible QC.
Here’s the reality
Panels you should AVOID (in budget segment)
- Cheap VA panels (especially curved ones)
- Heavy ghosting / black smearing
- Bad motion clarity
- Looks fine in specs, terrible in real use
- Poorly tuned IPS panels
- Backlight bleed
- IPS glow
- Washed or inconsistent colors
- Fake HDR (HDR400 type)
- No real HDR performance
- Just marketing
Brands to be CAREFUL with (budget lineup)
- Acer → very inconsistent QC and bad panel (some good, some trash)
- MSI → mostly rebranded panels, tuning varies
- Gigabyte → good specs, with bad panels and quality
These brands are completely trash for ips.
Common myth (WRONG INFO people spread)
“Buy brands that make their own panels like AOC, KTC, KOORUI”
→ They give good quality panel and quality monitors in cheap price.
panel manufacturers are:
Good Panel Makers
- LG Display
- Samsung Display
- TPV Technology Limited
plus some more niche panel brands research your own
Avoid these panels like plague
- AU Optronics
- BOE Technology
- Innolux
- Giantplus technology
So what about AOC / KTC / KOORUI?
- AOC → good tuning + value for money
- KTC → actually manufactures for others, best QC
- KOORUI → decant but not wow
What you SHOULD do instead
Research the exact model, not just brand
Check for:
- response time performance (not advertised)
- ghosting tests
- panel source (LG/AUO/BOE etc.)
Watch real reviews (not spec sheets)
Final truth
- Panel type ≠ quality
- Brand ≠ quality
- Specs ≠ performance
Model + tuning + QC = actual experience
