In my 30s, single, ~$800k invested, interested in van life, and I genuinely don’t want to work again. What would you do?

I’m in my early 30s in Canada and have over C$800,000 invested. I haven’t worked in about two years, partly because I’ve been dealing with autoimmune health issues, and that period away from work has made me question whether I actually want to return to a conventional career at all.

My spending is relatively modest, and I’m increasingly realizing that I’m not very interested in climbing a ladder, building another career, or turning every interest into a business.

I’m single, I don’t want children, and I’m not particularly interested in building my future around finding a relationship either. That gives me a lot of freedom, but also means I’m trying to figure out what I actually want my life to revolve around when the usual milestones of career, marriage, and kids aren’t especially appealing to me.

I’m very interested in van life and the idea of keeping my expenses low, travelling slowly, spending more time outdoors, and having a lot more freedom over where and how I live. At the same time, managing autoimmune issues means I do have to think realistically about healthcare, energy levels, and not designing a lifestyle that is too physically demanding.

I’m more interested in hearing from people who reached a similar point relatively young and deliberately chose a low-cost, work-optional life.

What does your life actually look like now?

Did you struggle with identity, loneliness, lack of structure, or feeling like you were “supposed” to be more productive?

I’m especially interested in people who didn’t replace a full-time job with a startup, consulting business, or another form of hustle. I’d like to understand what a genuinely lean, non-career-centered life can look like over the long term, especially for someone who is single, childfree, and managing chronic health issues.

32 F4X Anybody here not over their ex yet?

I mean my ex is 6’2 caring and loving, makes over 300k, and we have 8 years of bittersweet memories together. So who am I kidding? How does one suppose to move on? By moving on do you mean to the temple or church of celibacy or a pre dugged grave for the ones who die young? What’s the point of all this? Yall know that not a single relationship lasts right? So one is either out churning body count or delusionally thinking finding someone will make them happier. This sort of humanly longing is truly pathetic, and even more so it’s because we understand how pathetic this is. And yet

Flying premium economy but forgot to request a vegetarian meal

What should I do… check in staff said nothing can be done at this stage. Will be an interesting experience cuz the option on the menu is very meaty.

School-district apartments in Shenzhen, China, whose prices fell by over 70% over the course of six years.

It’s impressive how Xi Jinping has stabilized housing prices.👍

Cut off all the leaves in half because he thinks that will help a baby plant have a better life

I bought a healthy baby fig plant. Just now I saw my dad cut off all the leaves in half. So the leaves are still attached, but none of the leaves has its tips, but misshaped and he’s damn proud of it, saying that it’s “helping” the plant!

I want to put the poor plant out of its misery, so it doesn’t have to live a life like, struggling with bleeding leaves.

I can relate a whole lot to the poor plant. The over controlling out of knowing whats best for me! He taught me how to walk as a teenager, and berated me constantly for not walking correctly, because he didn’t like the shape of my legs. Does anyone else relate to this sort of obsessive controlling parent behaviour?

Attending THE drone expo tmr - what would you like to see/find out? AMA

I’m attending THR drone / low-altitude economy expo tmr in Shenzhen.

It is MASSIVE: around 110,000 sq metres of exhibition space, some 1200 exhibitors, 10,000 products on display. The show covers the full low-altitude economy / unmanned systems chain, including:

Consumer and civilian drones

Industrial drones

FPV / drone racing / drone soccer

Drone components and supply chain

Motors, optics, engines, navigation, comms, image transmission

Mapping, surveying, inspection, emergency response, agriculture, logistics

Low-altitude infrastructure

AI + robotics

Anti-drone / counter-UAS systems

eVTOL and general aviation

Single-person flying vehicles

I have an engineering/software background working in Canada, but relatively new to drones. I want to understand what’s actually useful from a business/industry standpoint, what has potential vs hype.

For people who fly, build, work with, or follow drones: what would you be most interested in seeing from this expo? Any specific companies, or types of drones would be of interest?

Also, would anyone be interested in having on-the-ground scout for a day? I could look for specific products, manufacturers, pricing, catalogs, contact info, or general market observations while I’m there. I speak fluent English and Mandarin.

In any case, I will share some photos and general observations afterward! So let me know what you would like to see!

Cheers 🥂
