One of the things I love about my motorcycle is it shows you which side the gas tank is on.
I’ve always wondered with every other bike </s>. Whats something about your bike that makes you, wait what?
BMW Shop Said These Brakes Were Fine >.<
I’m glad I didn’t listen to them. During a recent service, I specifically asked them to inspect the brake pads and lmk the thickness. When I picked up the bike they said they don’t measure thickness but simply visually inspect; and the tech notes were written as “in spec.” Idk the spec but I’m fairly sure .7mm isnt within it.
Moral of the story: never trust the stealership.
Best Way to Store and Carry a Moto Helmet
Someone posted recently asking about this topic. I’d been thinking about making this post for a while but never got around to it til that reminded me.
Here’s my method for helmet storage and carrying.
Take a helmet bag with you wherever you go. (I like the Shoei bags best - they’re soft and durable, with good weight while still being packable.) Secure the bag using a quick release knot. Wrapping the rope loop with duct tape where it’s most extended, and the rope is aligned evenly, provides an easy indication where the line ends for making the knot. This also makes an easy grab point for pulling the knot loose.
With this system, we have a quick and convenient handle, and the helmet is protected from scuffs.
(p.s. don’t hold it from the duct tape loop - that releases the knot - the pic is just for demonstration. The handle is below the knot.)
Replacing Radiator Filler Cap on Turbo Models
I had some trouble finding this info online, in one place, so thought I’d share.
The problem: at around 100k mi I parked the car one day and smelled burning coolant. Upon cracking the hood immediately noticed crusted coolant on and around the first part pictured. This radiator filler cap is a manifold that shares the system between the intercooler and the radiator.
Turns out this part (radiator filler cap PYML- 15-17Y) is simply two pressed together pieces of plastic that can degrade and leak over time.
The solution: perusing online you will not find a part with that exact part# that’s stamped on the unit. The full part# is PYML- 15-17YG - note the extra “g” ar the end. I couldn’t find anything online confirming whether these two were the same part. Though, the parts retailers did confirm fitment in their catalogs. Upon receiving the part the box says one thing and the unit is stamped with another. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The replacement procedure is very simple. You will need to drain the coolant (I’ll link a video in the comments.) I’d also recommend taking this time to flush the system and also clean the reservoir. (The reservoir comes out simply, only being held by a cable bundle and two clips.)
The radiator filler neck is secured with (2)10mm bolts and (4)hoses. Three of these hoses have clamps and the other that goes to the reservoir just slides off.
One thing to note is that it’s difficult to get access to the bottom hose clamp while the the airbox intake hose is in place. The airbox hose should be removed first (it’s simply clamped on with (2)Philips.) This should be the first thing to remove so you have space.
Bicycle wheel covers fit sidecases really well.
If you have side cases and want to store them without scratching them, these cheap 700c bicycle wheel covers are perfect. Givi v37 cases for reference.
