The INJUSTICE of Islam against Infertile women
Infertility (not being able to bear children) is experienced by millions of women worldwide. Roughly 9 percent of all women aged 15-49 are Infertile. The number rises to a whopping 19 percent if we consider married women who have not had a child yet. 12.6 percent for women aged 15-29, 22 percent for women aged 30-39, and a massive 26.8 percent for women aged 40-49. After this point most women reach menopause (typically from ages 45-55), meaning they cannot bear children at all. Thus, a very large percentage of women, young and old, cannot bear children.
See:
Do these women have any less of a right to experience love? Do these women have any less of a right to have a healthy, loving marriage? According to Islam, Yes.
It is authentically reported from the Prophet and his Sahabas that they heavily disliked marrying women who cannot bear children, even if they are otherwise lovely and of a good lineage.
Report from Muhammad:
>A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: “I have found a woman possessing ḥasab (status/lineage) and position, except that she does not bear children. Should I marry her?”
>So he prohibited him. Then he came to him a second time, and he prohibited him. Then he came to him a third time, and he prohibited him.
>Then he said: “Marry the fertile, loving woman, for I shall have greater numbers through you.”

It is very common for women to be infertile, yet Muhammad made it extremely Makruh or perhaps even forbidden to marry them. What kind of cultic belief is this that you should only marry those women with whom you can have many children, just so Muhammad can boast of it on the Day of Judgement?
Muslims often say Islam made it far better for widows: But they casually ignore the fact that it is only the young and fertile widows who you are recommended to marry. Most widows would be older, around 40-50 or maybe more. They are most likely infertile or have entered menopause, and thus cannot bear children. Marrying them would be greatly disliked.
Out of all the "widows" Muhammad married, only one was old like this and his reason for marrying her was that he wanted someone to take care of his children. This same woman (Sawdah) also feared that Muhammad would divorce her due to her old age, and thus relinquished her daily rights.
This is the religion that gave women their rights?

Islam in the West is all about being performative and virtue signaling.
Putting these little angels in Abaya is deplorable
I always thought it was really strange that young girls would be expected to wear abayas and hijabs, especially when they’re so young. I understand that people may choose these things for religious or cultural reasons, but I’ve never understood the idea of placing so much emphasis on covering little girls as though their clothing is somehow responsible for how other people behave.
What makes it even more disturbing is seeing cases like the recent one in Pakistan involving a five-year-old girl in Haripur a few weeks ago, who was abducted and later found dead, with her post-mortem confirming that she had been sexually assaulted. Cases like this are exactly why I think the focus should be on protecting children and holding perpetrators accountable, rather than teaching girls from an extremely young age that their bodies or clothing are somehow the source of the problem.
Yes, the Punishment for Blasphemy IS a Part of Islam
I often see Pakistani Muslims saying that the Blasphemy Law in Pakistan and other countries should be repealed, that it is not part of Islam but rather a "misinterpretation" of it. However, this is incorrect. The punishment for Blasphemy is rooted in both the Sunnah and in the consensus of Scholars.
Hadith:
The primary narration I will be using is an incident where a Blind man had a slave-woman; The woman used to blaspheme the Prophet, and this angered the man to the extent that he killed her. When this was told to the Prophet, he did not punish the blind man but instead said that her blood was forfeited (there was no compensation necessary to pay for it). This was an explicit agreement that the basis of what the Blind man did (killing a blaspheming person) was correct.
Narration 1:
>Ibn Abbas narrated to us that a blind man had a umm walad who used to insult the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and speak abusively against him. He would forbid her, but she would not desist, and he would rebuke her, but she would not heed him.
He said: One night, she began insulting the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and speaking abusively against him. So he took a mighwal, placed it in her abdomen, and leaned upon her until he killed her. A child fell between her legs and blood smeared what was there.
When morning came, this was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He gathered the people and said:
The blind man stood, making his way through the people while trembling, until he sat before the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said:
“O Messenger of Allah, I am the one who did it. She used to insult you and speak abusively against you, so I would forbid her but she would not desist, and I would rebuke her but she would not heed me. I have two sons from her, like two pearls, and she was a companion to me. But last night, she began insulting you and speaking abusively against you, so I took the mighwal, placed it in her abdomen, and leaned upon her until I killed her.”
Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Behold, bear witness that her blood is forfeited.”
Source: Abu Da'ud 4361
The narration has been graded as authentic by many scholars.
- Al-Hakim and al-Dhahabi graded it as "Hadith Sahih", and Sheikh Sayyid al-Laham authenticated it as "Hadith Qawwi", in : Mustadrak ala al-Sahihayn - T. al-Risalah, 8/750
- Sheikh al-Arnaut graded this Hadith's chain as "Isnad Qawwi" in: Sunan Abu Da'ud - T. al-Risalah, 6/416
- Sheikh al-Albani grades it's chain as "Sahih on the conditions of Muslim" in: Irwa al-Ghalil, 5/91
- Ibn Hajr says the men in this chain are Trustworthy, and Sheikh al-Zuhayri grades it Sahih in: Bulugh al-Maram - T. al-Zuhayri, p. 369
- Sheikh Muqbil al-Wad'yi graded it as "Hasan, It's men are men of the Sahih" in: Sahih al-Musnad, 1/515
- Muhammad Sabhi b. Hasan Khalaq graded it "Sahih" in: Nayl al-Awtar - T. Halaaq, 13/503-4
Qawwi means "Strong". It is a grade above Hasan, and below Sahih. Hasan, Qawwi and Sahih are all authoritative sources, and the majority of Muhadditheen agree on it being a valid source of Law. See: Jamal al-Din al-Qasimi, Kitāb Qawāʿid al-Taḥdīth min Funūn Muṣṭalaḥ al-Ḥadīth, p. 106
The Hadith in itself is authentic and authoritative; However, we have a few more narrations supporting the same incident.
---
Narration 2:
>ʿAlī, may Allah be pleased with him said: “A Jewish woman used to insult the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and speak abusively against him. So a man strangled her until she died, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, declared her blood forfeited.”
Source: Sunan Abu Da'ud 4362
- Sheikh al-Albani grades it's chain as "Sahih on the conditions of Muslim" in: Irwa al-Ghalil, 5/91
- Al-Shawkani said "It's men are of the Sahih" in: Nayl al-Awtar - T. Halaaq, 13/503-4
- Muhammad Sabhi b. Hasan Khalaq graded it "Hasan" in: Nayl al-Awtar - T. Halaaq, 13/503
It's men certainly are all Trustworthy. The problem is that in the chain, the narrator from Ali is al-Shab'i. Al-Shab'i did not narrate from Ali, thus the chain is disconnected. This is normally enough to grade a chain weak, however al-Shab'i is special. Ibn Taymiyya narrates consensus that his narrations like these (mursal) are all Sahih, and he never had a mursal narration which was not Sahih. He also grades this Hadith Jayyid (Strong, equivalent of Hasan) on this basis. See: Ibn Taymiyya, Sarim al-Maslul, p. 61
Even if we don't consider this narration authentic on it's own, it strengthens the previous authentic narration even further.
---
Narration 3:
>Qubaysah ibn ‘Uqbah told us: Yoonus ibn Abi Ishaaq narrated to us, from Abu Ishaaq, that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Ma’qil said:
>Ibn Umm Maktoom stayed in the house of a Jewish woman in Madeenah, the paternal aunt of an Ansaari man. She was kind to him, but she annoyed him with regard to Allaah and His Messenger, so he took hold of her and hit her and killed her. The matter was referred to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and he said: By Allaah, O Messenger of Allaah, she was kind to me, but she annoyed me with regard to Allaah and His Messenger, so I hit her and killed her. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “May Allaah cast her away. There is no recompense for the shedding of her blood.”
Source: Ibn Sa'd, Tabaqat al-Kubra - T. Sadir, 4/10
- Sheikh Husayn Asad said, "It's men are Trustworthy". See: Al-Dhahabi, Siyar Alam al-Nabula - T. al-Risalah, 1/363
- Sheikh Sayyid Hudi also said, "It's men are Trustworthy". See: Al-Isas fi Sunnah al-Fiqhi'ah, 4/2155
It's men are all indeed Trustworthy (Thiqqat). But it is not a connected chain; Abdullah b. Ma'qil was a Tabi' (successor, student of the Sahabas), so he could not have seen this himself. This this chain is also Mursal. It does, however, serve as a good corroboration for the previous two reports.
---
In conclusion, all three reports togethor strengthen each other and rise to "Sahih". The Fatwa site IslamQA, after mentioning these same reports, says, "To sum up these reports, the basic story is proven in the saheeh Sunnah". See: Regarding the hadeeth about the blind man who killed his slave woman who had borne him a child (umm walad) because she reviled the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), IslamQA Fatwa no. 103729
The final two reports also mention that this woman was Jewish, and though they might both be mursal (al-Shab'is would be authentic nonetheless) they strengthen each other and prove that the woman being Jewish is an authentic part.
This narration is clear and unambigious evidence of there being a Blasphemy punishment rooted in Islam. If what the man did (killing for blasphemy) was not allowed in Islam, it would have come under "Unjust killing" of a person, requiring retribution (Qisas). The Prophet explicitly says that there is no Qisas required here, her blood will not be recompensed. Meaning what the man did was not wrong.
----
Scholars:
The Scholars also unanimously agree with the ruling of killing for Blasphemy here. There is unanimous agreement for Muslims, and the majority agrees that Non-Muslims doing blasphemy are also killed. All the schools agree that if a Muslim commits blasphemy against Allah or Muhammad, in any form, his blood becomes permissible to kill. If a Non-Muslim (A Dhimmi) does so, the majority say he is killed while the Hanafis say he is not. Imam al-Khattabi, after mentioning the same narration I mentioned above, says:
>I do not know of anyone among the Muslims who differed concerning the obligation to kill someone like him [i.e. someone who blasphemes]. However, if the insulter is a dhimmī, then they differed concerning him.
Mālik ibn Anas said: Whoever among the Jews and Christians insults the Prophet ﷺ is killed, unless he embraces Islam. Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal likewise said this. Al-Shāfiʿī said: The dhimmī is killed if he insults the Prophet ﷺ, and his dhimmah is repudiated. He used as evidence the report concerning Kaʿb ibn al-Ashraf, which we have mentioned in the Book of Jihād.
It was related from Abū Ḥanīfah that he said: The dhimmī is not killed for insulting the Prophet ﷺ, because the shirk upon which they remain is more serious.
Source: Imam al-Khattabi, Ma'alim al-Sunan, 3/296
Other people transmitting a consensus that a blaspheming Muslim is killed:
- Ibn al-Mundhir, Kitab al-Iqna, 2/584
- al-Qadi Iyad, Kitab al-Shifa, 2/476 and 548
- Ibn Hajr al-Haythami, Kitab al-Aylam bi Qawatay al-Islam, p. 246
- Mulla Khusraw, Darar al-Hukm, 1/300
- Ibn Taymiyya, al-Sarim al-Maslul, p. 253
One of the reasons a blaspheming Muslim is killed according to them is also that by blaspheming, he has become an apostate and thus he is permissible to kill. This also refutes the modern idea that "Apostasy" was only about apostasy with war, since simple blasphemy also qualifies according to consensus.
Scholars saying that most of the Ummah agree a Dhimmi too is killed, with the exception of the Hanafis:
- al-Qadi Iyad, Kitab al-Shifa, 2/565. [He also mentions that according to the Hanafis this person is still punished, but simply not killed]
Like Qadi Iyad says, the Hanafi position isn't that blaspheming isn't a crime: They still punish the person by Ta'zir (discretionary punishment). The following Hanafi Ulema mention this:
- Abu Bakr al-Jassas, Sharh Mukhtasir al-Tahawi, 6/142
- Al-Tahawi, Kitab Ikhtilaf al-Ulema, 3/504
- Ibn Nujaym, Bahr al-Raiq, 5/125
- Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar - T. Halbi, 4/214 [He says the "Discretionary punishment" can even go up to death if the ruler sees fit]
---
Conclusion:
In Summary, authentic narrations from the Prophet show that he considered it lawful to kill a person for blasphemy.
There is unanimous agreement among the scholars that if a Muslim blasphemes, he is killed because he has now become an apostate.
If a Non-Muslim under Islam does so, the majority of Scholars say that he is also killed. This is evidently the correct position, since in narrations #2 and #3 above, it is clarified that the woman killed was Jewish.
The only school which does not stipulate death for the Dhimmi's on this are the Hanafis. They, however, still criminalize it. According to them, if a non-Muslim blasphemes he is given a discretionary punishment. This punishment does not have a limit according to Ibn Abidin, it can incorporate anything like lashes even up to death if the ruler sees fit.
Before someone comes up and says "It was only back then, because states used to be formed on the basis of religion". Any government formed on the basis of Islam and which basis it's laws solely on Shariah is BY DEFINITION a government based on religion. A blasphemy law would still be a part of it, and it indeed it in many modern Muslim states.
In conclusion, YES, capital punishment for blasphemy IS a part of Islam. It is not the practice of later "deviant" Muslim states, it is an authentic part of Shariah on which there is consensus. It is not the fault of, for example, the Pakistani government alone that there is a law punishing Blasphemy; It is an integral part of Islamic Law itself.
This is a slap in the face of religious freedom.
The HORRIBLE way Islam treats Non Muslims
While Muslims today never stop about how Shari'ah would be excellent for Western countries and great replacement for secularism, the sources show a completely different picture. Non-Muslims under Islam (henceforth Dhimmi's) had to suffer a number of discriminatory laws. If any of these laws was imposed on Muslims during any time in History, there would be vocal condemnations of it all over the world. But not a voice is raised from the Muslim world when it is about the Dhimmi's.
While there are hundreds of Scholars who mention these conditions, Ibn Hazm al-Andalusi (994-1064 CE) says that the Muslim Scholars have an Ijma (consensus) on these rulings. He says:
>They agreed on the obligation of taking jizyah from the Jews and Christians among those who were non-Arabs, whose forefathers had followed one of the two religions before the mission of the Messenger ﷺ, provided that he was not a freed slave, had not changed that religion for another, was not an elderly man, not insane, not chronically ill, not a minor, not a woman, not a monk, not an Arab, and not one who engaged in trade at the beginning of the year, and was wealthy.
>They agreed that if each of those mentioned pays on his own behalf, whether poor or rich, freed or free, four mithqāls of gold at the completion of each lunar year—after each dinar is reckoned as twelve dirhams by measure or more—then this is on condition that they bind themselves to the following:
>That they do not introduce anything in the sites of their churches, dwellings, or elsewhere; That they do not establish a church, monastery, hermitage, cell, or tower, nor rebuild what has fallen into ruin, nor revive what has become effaced; That they do not prevent any Muslims who pass by from lodging in their churches by night or by day;
>That they widen their doors for passersby; That they host any Muslims who pass by them for three days; That they do not shelter a spy; That they do not conceal deception against the Muslims;
>That they do not teach their children the Qur’an; that they do not prevent anyone of their people who wishes to enter Islam;
>That they honor the Muslims; that they stand for them in assemblies; That they do not resemble them in anything of their clothing—neither cap, nor turban, nor shoes, nor parting of the hair; That they do not speak in their manner of speech, nor write in their script; that they do not ride on saddles;
>That they do not gird themselves with any weapon, nor carry it with them, nor possess it; That they do not engrave Arabic inscriptions in their shops; That they do not sell wine;
>That they clip the front of their heads; That they bind the zunnār belts around their waists; That they do not display the cross on their churches, nor in any of the roads of the Muslims;
>That they do not bury their dead near the Muslims; that they do not display filth in the roads of the Muslims; That they do not strike bells except lightly; that they do not raise their voices in reading any of their books in the presence of Muslims, display visible crosses, show fire in Muslim areas, or take from silk that has been claimed by Muslims’ arrows.
>They must guide Muslims, not release their enemies against them, not strike or insult a Muslim, and not allow Muslims to hear any of their polytheism, or any insult against the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or other prophets. They must not bring out wine or drink it, and sexual relations with a mahram woman are forbidden. If Muslims dwell among them, their churches and markets must be demolished.
>If they fulfill all that is mentioned and do not change the religion on which they made peace with Islam, the blood, wealth, and family of anyone who fulfills this are protected, and it is forbidden to oppress them.

A consensus on these rulings is also mentioned in:
- Ibn Taymiyyah, Majmu' al Fatawa, 28/651-652, 654-655
- Badr al-Din al-Bawli, Minhaj al-Quyoom, pg 56
- Ibn al-Qayyim, Ahkam Ahl al-Dhimma - T. Ata'at al-Ilm, 2/363 and 2/277
The consensus of the Ummah is protected by Allah, and it cannot be wrong. See:
- Musnad Ahmad - T. al-Risalah, 45/200
- IslamQA - Some evidence from the Quran and Sunnah that scholarly consensus (ijma`) constitutes definitive proof
---
Is this better than a secular government where all citizens have the same basic rights, irrespective of their Faith? Imagine in the US today, for example, there was a law that Muslims specifically had to wear different clothing from everyone else; They had to host and feed anyone who came to their houses; They could not make calls to prayer which other people could hear; They could not speak about their beliefs in Public or say anything wrong about the beliefs of other religious groups, while the others are not stopped from doing so to Islam.
There would be an uproar throughout the world! But Shariah is somehow better than secularism?

Is this better than a secular government where all citizens have the same basic rights, irrespective of their Faith? Imagine in the US today, for example, there was a law that Muslims specifically had to wear different clothing from everyone else; They had to host and feed anyone who came to their houses; They could not make calls to prayer which other people could hear; They could not speak about their beliefs in Public or say anything wrong about the beliefs of other religious groups, while the others are not stopped from doing so to Islam.
There would be an uproar throughout the world! But Shariah is somehow better than secularism?

The MOCKERY of Women in Islam
Marriage in Islam, often hailed by muslims as the most equal and fair of ceremonies mentioned by the quran, is quite obviously the most sexist and morally horrifying practice if you just look at it critically:
The nikah contract has historically been treated as an agreement between a wali (guardian) and the groom, with no concern whatsoever for the voiced consent of the bride. Silence from young brides in Islam is unequivocally treated as consent, since she might be 'shy'.
Fiqh Source (Al Hidayah: Image Attached)
Furthermore, sexual consent within marriage has also been notably absent from both scripture and legal law. In fact, the following verse and hadith have only supported and reinforced the idea that a woman 'owes' sex to her husband and there is no such thing as marital rape:
"When a man invites his wife to his bed, and she does not come, and he (the husband) spends the night being angry with her, the angels curse her until morning." (Sahih Muslim 1436)
"Men are the caretakers of women, as men have been provisioned by Allah over women and tasked with supporting them financially. And righteous women are devoutly obedient and, when alone, protective of what Allah has entrusted them with. And if you sense ill-conduct (nushuz) from your women, advise them first; if they persist, do not share their beds; but if they still persist, then discipline them gently. But if they change their ways, do not be unjust to them." (Quran 4:34)
Here, the permission for physical violence is damning enough, but the more important detail many miss out is that 'righteous women are devoutly obedient'. This single phrase has forever doomed muslim women by effectively giving the husband complete authority over his wife. The Arabic word used here for disobedience is nushuz, which roughly translates to 'rising above one's rightful place/arrogance.' (https://athari-archive.com/2025/03/09/quran-434-explained/)
Or, in other words, overstepping one's assigned position in the divine marital hierarchy.
Islam allows WHIPPING in Wife beating!
Islam, the alleged final revelation of God, explicitly allows men to beat their wives in Surah al-Nisa verse 34:
>Men are the protectors and maintainers of women because Allah has made one of them excel over the other, and because they spend out of their possessions (to support them). Thus righteous women are obedient and guard the rights of men in their absence under Allah's protection**^(,)** As for women of whom you fear rebellion, admonish them, and remain apart from them in beds, and beat them. Then if they obey you, do not seek ways to harm them. Allah is Exalted, Great. [4:34, Maududi's Translation]
If you feel that your wife is being rebellious (a nashizah), you are allowed to beat them.
Now, progressive Muslims will immediately tell you that this beating is a "light beating" and just a little tap. But this is not how Umar b. al-Khattab, the second Caliph in Islam, took the verse to be. He understood the verse to be broad enough to include even whipping your wife. We can see this in the following set of narrations:
>Malik [1266] narrated from ʿAbdullah ibn Dinar that he said:
>“A man came to ʿAbdullah ibn ʿUmar while I was with him at Dār al-Qaḍāʾ, asking him about the suckling of an adult. ʿAbdullah ibn ʿUmar said: ‘A man came to ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb and said: “I had a slave-girl, and I used to have intercourse with her. Then my wife deliberately went to her and breastfed her. I entered upon her, and she said: ‘Here she is for you. By Allah, I have breastfed her.’” ʿUmar said: “Inflict pain upon her [your wife] and go to your slave-girl, for suckling is only the suckling of the young.”’”
>Ḥarb [2/781] narrated to us: al-Ḥumaydī said: Sufyān narrated to us; ʿAbdullah ibn Dinar narrated to us, as you hear it now, saying: “I heard Ibn ʿUmar say: ‘A man came to ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb while he was at Dār al-Qaḍāʾ and said: “O Commander of the Believers, I had a slave-girl with whom I had intercourse, and I went out from her, but my wife went against me to my slave-girl and breastfed her so that she would become prohibited to me.” ʿUmar said: “I have determined upon you that you must cause your wife pain and go to your slave-girl, for suckling is only what occurs in childhood.”’”
>And ʿAbd al-Razzāq [13890] narrated from Maʿmar, from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim, from Ibn ʿUmar:
>“A woman breastfed a slave-girl belonging to her husband so that she would become prohibited to him. He went to ʿUmar and mentioned that to him, so he said: ‘I have determined upon you that when you return, you must inflict pain upon your wife’s back and have intercourse with your slave-girl.’”
>Al-Bayhaqī [16075], through the route of al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī ibn ʿAffān, narrated to us: Ibn Numayr narrated to us, from ʿUbaydullah ibn ʿUmar, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
>“A woman from the Anṣār deliberately went to a slave-girl belonging to her husband and breastfed her. When her husband came, she said: ‘Indeed, this slave-girl of yours has become your daughter.’ So the man went to ʿUmar and mentioned that to him. He said to him: ‘I have determined upon you that when you return, you must have intercourse with your slave-girl and cause pain to your wife’s back.’”
>End quote. These reports are Sahih.
>ʿAbd al-Razzāq [13889] said: “Ibn Jurayj informed me; Abū al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jābir ibn ʿAbdullah say:
>‘A man came to ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb and said: “My wife breastfed my slave-girl so that she would become prohibited to me.” So ʿUmar ordered that the woman be flogged and that he have intercourse with his slave-girl after the suckling.’” End quote. The chain is sound.

Two Sahabi's reported this incident: Ibn Umar and Jabir b. Abdullah.
From Ibn Umar 3 people reported this incident: Abdullah b. Dinar, Salim b. Abdullah, and Nafi. Abdullah b. Dinar reports the wording of "Inflict pain upon your wife". This already gives heavy connotations of a physical and painful beating. Looking at the wordings of Salim and Nafi, this goes further. They both say "Inflict pain upon your wife's back". This is undoubtedly a physical punishment, and a painful one at that. How else are you causing pain to someone's back? Additionally, the wording of Nafi' and Salim would also be more authentic as it's reported by 2 people.
Scholars commentating on Abdullah b. Dinar's narration from Ibn Umar also say it's referring to a physical punishment [which is painful]:
- Uthman al-Kamakhi, Al-Muhayya fi Kashr Israr al-Muwatta, 3/166
- Al-Habib Omar, Sharh Muwatta, Kitab al-Rada', 323
- Al-Laknawi, Al-Taleeq al-Mamjad, 2/599
- Abd al-Karim al-Khudayr, Sharh al-Muwatta, 27/104
- Kamal ibn al-Sayyid Salim, Sahih Fiqh al-Sunnah wa Adillatuhu wa Tawdhih Madhahib al-A'immah, 3/86
We can go even further by looking at some classical sources on what "Inflict pain upon someone's back" meant. For example, an anecdote preserved by Ibn Abd Raba al-Andalusi in Al-Aqid al-Farid, 1/44 mentions an incident where Umar says "I shall cause pain to your back" to Abu Hurayra, and proceeds to whip him, meaning the phrase referred to whipping. The authenticity of this report is irrelevent since we are only trying to gauge what the phrase would have meant in classical Arabic.
So there is definite basis in classical Arabic for this phrase referring to whipping, and this also makes sense linguistically since whipping was mostly done by flogging the back of the person. In Islam, flogging in Hudud is also restricted to the back due to a prophetic narration alluding to this. See: Al-Shinqiti, Sharh Zad al-Mustaqni, 372/11.
But this meaning of whipping can definitively be proven by looking at the narration of the other Sahabi, Jabir b. Abdullah. His is the very last narration in the original source I gave above.
Jabir, while relating the same incident, tells us that Umar ordered the whipping of the wife. Ibn Umar tells us the exact words Umar used ("Inflict pain/upon her back") while Jabir tells us the exact ruling Umar imposed (flogging).
So the full incident was basically as follows:
- A man comes to Umar to complain of his wife's rebelliousness
- What the wife did was that she breastfed the man's slave girl, thus making it forbidden for him to have sex with the slave (pretty understandable, which wife wants her husband to be cheating on her with a slave woman?)
- Umar says that the slave is not forbidden to the man. He should go back and have sex with the slave, and he should whip his wife**.**
Umar bin al-Khattab, the second Rightly guided Caliph, allowed men to whip their wives for their rebelliousness. Muhammad has implored Muslims to viciously follow the method and ways of the rightly guided caliphs, and especially Umar b. al-Khattab and Abu Bakr. He goes as far as to say that Allah has placed the truth upon the tongue and heart of Umar. See: Abu Da'ud 4607, Ihsan fi Taqrib Sahih ibn Hibban – T. al-Arnaut, 15/328, and Musnad Ahmad - T. Risalah, 9/144.
Yet this same man tells us that people can whip their wives. This is Islam.
Ryan-al-Najjar, an 18-years-old innocent girl was murdered in cold blood by her father and brothers for choosing to not wear Hijab. Muslim women aren't even safe in the West anymore. When will this stop?
She was an 18-year-old Syrian girl, killed by her father and two brothers because they believed her “Western behaviour” was bringing shame to the family. Some will still have the audacity to blame “culture” and not religion. So you are telling me that Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Syria somehow share the same cultures? The only constant is Islam. t's very much apparent that Islam is oppressive towards women. This needs to STOP!
