Strict teacher and discussion post.

Since when did we have to start responding back to the replies our classmates post to our discussion post ? I feel my teacher is doing too much, and that is not apart of the rubric. It’s always been post your discussion post and respond back to three peers. Now I have to engage further and respond back to their replies on my post to receive full credit ? Is this something worth reporting if it truly affects my grade?

This is my professors words in her email

“Our discussions are designed to enhance your learning and serve as the online equivalent of in-class conversation. This means they should be interactive and ongoing, not a “post and leave” activity. Instead of simply submitting your main response, replying to three classmates, and moving on, please remain engaged throughout the discussion period.
Make sure to check back to read and reply to comments made under your post (including mine), and take time to read a variety of your classmates’ contributions. If someone responds to your comment, continue the exchange, as this back-and-forth is where meaningful learning happens”.

Graduation and loan proration

I applied for graduation (I’ll graduate in the winter), and my loans were adjusted. I noticed that the revised amount for my summer term is lower than what was originally disbursed.

My main question is: would I be responsible for repaying the difference, or is this adjustment only affecting my fall disbursement?

I also noticed my account now shows “Subsidized Loan 2” and “Unsubsidized Loan 2.” Is that simply because the original loan couldn’t be updated and a new entry had to be created, or does “Loan 2” indicate something different?

I originally thought the adjustment would only apply to my fall loans, not funds that had already been disbursed for summer. Has anyone experienced something similar after applying for graduation?

P.S. I’ll be calling the aid office Monday and asking. Just anxious and wondering if I’ll have to pay the difference.

Finishing up last few classes

I graduate in the fall and am taking my last three classes then. I applied for graduation a few weeks ago, and my l0anS was prorated.

I thought the proration would only affect my fall term, but it looks like my summer funding was revised as well. I now see Federal l0anS 2 in addition to Federal l0anS 1, and the revised amount is lower than what I was originally offered and received for the summer.

Does this mean I’ll have to repay the difference, or is “Federal l0anS 2” just the revised version of the original funding?

Son doesn’t like engaging in activities

Just needing some advice.

My son is 7 (almost 8) and seems to hate doing anything other than playing v*deo games. I know I played a big part in this. I work full time from home and go to college full time, so when he was younger I relied on TV, his tablet, and eventually video games to keep him occupied while I worked. I don’t really have family nearby, and I put him in daycare when I could afford it.

The problem is that anytime I take him somewhere, he complains the entire time, and it honestly makes me sad and frustrated. I’ve taken him to the zoo, and he complains about walking or says it’s too hot when it’s only around 75–80 degrees. I took him to the circus, and he had an attitude. We talked about trying to enjoy it, I even got him face painting, and he still ended up crying because he didn’t want to be there. I’ve taken him to arcades and bounce houses, and many other activities and he just doesn’t seem interested. It feels like video games are the only thing he actually enjoys.

I also wonder if part of the problem is that he doesn’t have many kids to play with. I don’t really have friends, so he doesn’t have many opportunities for playdates or social activities outside of school.

He’s been in therapy for a little over a year, but his therapist recently told me she’s had a hard time getting him to participate. He’s switching to a new therapist in the next few weeks since his current one is leaving.

I’m just feeling overwhelmed and wondering if anyone has been through something similar. During the school year, I only let him play video games on weekends, but over the summer I’ve let him play for hours. I know I probably need to cut back again.

Has anyone dealt with this? How did you help your child become interested in other activities without it turning into a fight every time? I’d really appreciate any advice.

Clothes for new school year

Just curious on how many parents buy their kids new shoe and clothes for new school year ?

I am going through hard time and can’t afford to spend as much as I did last year on new clothes and shoes. My son is going into second grade and figure it probably wouldn’t be big of deal. I was thinking about getting him 1 pair of new shoes and 5 new outfits for first week.

But my question is do you parents buy your children new wardrobe and shoes every school year ? If so shoes do you buy multiple pairs or shoes ? One?

Aid and graduation.

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation. I’ll be taking my final 3 classes (9 credits) this fall and plan to apply for graduation. My first class starts August 13th and ends October 8th. My last two classes start October 13th and end December 8th. I will not be attending in the spring.

I was awarded the full Pell amount for the school year, but I’m worried about how my aid may be affected since I won’t be enrolled for the entire year. I received $2,773 in Pell for summer while taking 3 classes.

For anyone who was in their final semester, applied for graduation, and did not return for the spring semester:
Did your financial aid get prorated or reduced for your final fall semester?

Did your Pell still cover your classes?

Were you able to use your full aid amount, or did you have to pay anything out of pocket?

I’m just trying to plan ahead and avoid any surprises. Any experiences or advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Graduation

I’ll be taking my last 3 classes this fall. My last two classes end Dec 8th. I was awarded the full amount of aid for this school year.

My question is will the prorate affect my aid for fall?
I’m just worrying about applying for graduation and not having enough aid to pay for my 3 classes in the fall. Can anyone tell me their experience? If they typically get full aid and applied for graduation. Did it affect their aid for their semester ? Did it cover all classes if you taken 3 or more ? Or did you have to come out of pocket?

Fat, depressed and hating life.

Today I was at the park. I typically go to this pond with a nice walking area. I usually walk a lap around, then sit in my car and enjoy my lunch.

While I was eating, this boy who seemed about 8-10 years old. Came to my car, I had all my windows down as it was hot. He starred at me. I said hello. He said "why are you so big and fat". I then made a remark and said "why are you ugly". He then told his brother who was very chubby and big for his age, to ask me why I'm big and fat.
I then said to him, look at yourself. You're big as well.
Then the boy proceed to hit my car mirror. I at this point told him to stop multiple times, and once I raised my voice he did.

I then went over to his mother, and told her she needs to teach her children some respect and told her what they said to me. She apologized and said he's autistic and has habit of doing that. He didn't seem Autistic to me but seemed like an excuse.

Needless to say, it hurt my feelings. I know I'm fat and I know they're just kids but it still hurt, l've heard stories of this happening to others but it finally happened to me. I feel bad for saying what I said to kids but at end of day. It hit deep.

I'm 5'8 and around 350 pounds. I'm just so ashamed of myself. So numb I can't even cry but I'm hurt. Because I just want to hide and run away everyday and one place l thought I could escape. I couldn't.

I feel like my life is in shambles. I have no friends. No family. Just all alone. Everyday is battle for me not hurting myself. I’m in college, and I just feel I’m falling apart and have no reason to be here. Just feel like I’m always odd one out. Always the black sheep. Life is depressing.

Writing center and PowerPoint presentations.

I was wondering if I can submit a PowerPoint presentation to the Writing Center. I’d like feedback on my speaker notes, grammar, and other writing mechanics. I’ve only submitted essays before, so I’m not sure if PowerPoint presentations are accepted. Does anyone know if this is allowed?

Professor not responding

Who can I reach out to if my professor does not respond? I am starting to get frustrated. It has been four business days, and I have emailed her multiple times and posted in the “Ask My Professor” forum but have not received a response. I even saw that she was responding to discussion posts about 30 minutes ago, so I replied there to let her know I have been trying to get in touch without success. I am just trying to figure out the next step.
