MDO plywood fully exposed outdoors

Has anyone used MDO to finish a home's exterior, fully exposed to rain and snow? I am wondering how well it would hold up with exterior paint.

Living in Elkford

Anyone live and work in Elkford? I see the mines are hiring all kinds of positions. Is the work at the mines really tough, or is the atmosphere relaxed and focused on safety? I tried oil rigs a few years ago, and it was insanely tough 12 hour days with no breaks (yes, you read that right), and an oily mess. I'm 44, have been a carpenter for 20 years. I was an apprentice millwright for 2 years before that. I have a diploma in mechanical engineering technology from 2002. Just curious about Elkford. Looks nice and quiet, with affordable housing.

I'm still dreaming of buying a lot and building myself a nice little home, one day. I love snowboarding and hiking. I don't have much saved up after some stupid mistakes on the stock market.

Should rough sills overlap exterior sheathing?

I just watched a quick video showing a 5 degree slope on a rough window sill. Would it be even wiser to install a wider rough window sill so that it overlaps the exterior sheathing? I do understand that building wrap and exterior finishes are the primary way to prevent water ingress.

Clapboard VS vertical shiplap siding in Coastal BC, Canada

Is vertical cedar siding resilient? Obviously vinyl or composite clapboard makes a ton of sense - it's designed to prevent ingress of water. However I see these beautiful homes with vertical clear grain vertical siding (or maybe it's aluminum?). So I'm wondering if anyone out there specializes in siding and can answer the question directly - Is vertical cedar shiplap a bad idea? Asking for Coastal British Columbia area.

Unknown $414729 transaction on CC - UPS Canada

I just saw a this charge for $4147.29 on my credit card and have never dealt with UPS for such a large amount, and it's been maybe a year or two since I've sent a package. I don't deal with them regularly or have any kind of accounts with them, so they shouldn't have any of my credit card information on file.

I called TD Visa to cancel my card, and they can only say that the charge is from New Brunswick, and was done online, and listed the 1-800-742-5877 phone number, which was also shown on the monthly credit card statement. They are starting a fraud investigation and have no other information, signatures, except that the transaction was made online.

Has anyone ever had something like this happen to them? Fake vendor name? Mistake made by UPS? This is causing headaches as I had to cancel my business credit card and cannot do business until the new card comes in. Anyone out there have contacts at UPS?

Would you buy a large parcel of land with a group of people to start a community?

I've been wondering about this for a couple years - there are decent-sized parcels of land for sale in places near Nelson, Golden, Revelstoke, Rossland, Kitimat.

I've seen 5-10 acre lots for sale at $500,000k-$1,000,000. If something like that were divided up into quarter acre lots, you could get 20 lots on a 5 acre parcel - and these lots would be HUGE compared to suburban lots - 20 meters by 50 meters - or 65 feet by 165 feet.

Accounting for a road allowance and maybe some green space for everyone to share, even if half of that were privately owned, that's still 10 large lots at $50,000-$100,000 per lot. Seems like it could be a sweet deal for a small group to all chip in on and build a small community to build their homes on. I'm not talking about HOA and condo fees, just freehold lots divided up for anyone to do what they please with. No minimum house sizes, just build whatever you want from a tiny house to a 5,000 square foot home, so long as building code is met.

Any reason why this isn't happening?

Costco 10 Commandments - What would they be?

I recently re-joined Costco and gotta say, the last few experiences made me wonder if people are just becoming a-holes generally, or if it was a Vancouver thing, specifically. After seeing a few posts describing the same experience, I'm assuming this is a Canada-wide problem. If you could create a rule and etiquette board before entering the store, like you'd see in a community centre or at the gym, what would your top rules be?
