Learning Piano for Music Production. Where to go from here?

I've been taking piano lessons this year and have gotten to Piano Adventures 3A but still feel like I can't translate as much as I'd hope to music production.

How do I better translate what I'm learning into music production? The books don't have much on composition and focus on me learning a song, so I've been trying to learn more about chords and inversions outside of my lessons.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

How is the sequencer workflow on the Live 3 vs Elektron?

Curious for those with experience on both. How do the workflows compare. The good and bad.

Does anything change in how I learn the piano based on my goals?

If I tell a teacher I want to learn piano to improvise ideas and melodies for music production, does the curriculum change?

Any sequencer apps that are similar to the oxi one?

My favorite thing about the oxi one is that it’s grid-based and shows a whole octave + 16 steps. I’ve always found experimenting with melodies more fun this way.

Is there an app with a similar sequencer approach?

Anyone use an external sequencer/app with their MPC?

I've been thinking about adding an external sequencer to experiment with more melodic ideas. Was considering the oxi one mk2, but seems pretty beastly for what I'm looking for.

Also looked at the Korg SQ-64 and some iPad apps like Condukt.

Curious if anyone uses an external sequencer alongside their MPC?

How to find more deep house?

Looking for ways you have found more deep house that isn’t AI. Is YouTube Premium the best option that limits AI? $potify is a mess these days.

How are people standing out in email with AI outbound being so saturated?

Feel like AI has made email outbound almost impossible. They all are using the same signals to reach out so I can only imagine how noisy everyone’s inbox is.

Have you found any recent success with email outbound?

Want to just hear the cons of these turntables: Orbit Special, LP5x, RT85.

Analysis paralysis is getting me and I’m back to square one choosing one of the turntables mentioned.

I tend to value customer service and am okay with paying a little more. U Turn seems like the least featured but most service oriented and I’ve seen mixed reviews on Fluance.

Audio Technica has a warranty and is easy to replace parts so not sure how much customer service is needed.

Can you share your cons with these turntables to help my decision? Things around upgrade paths would be helpful too

Narrowed it down to LP5x or RT85. Is this a matter of preference?

The main reason the RT85 is in contention is because of the Ortofon cartridge and auto-stop. As a beginner, having the built in phono amp on the LP5x seems more plug and play. I can also add a tone arm lifter on the LP5x to have a pseudo auto stop.

Is the choice a matter of preference? My main goal with this purchase is to have something that lasts a long time and doesn't need much maintenance.

Recommended classic House/Deep House albums?

I've been reading about the creation of House music and would love to get some classic House albums that define the genre.

I have Amnesia by Mr Fingers on my list but would love to get some recommendations from House fans on what others to consider.

Feel like everyone is reaching out to clients using AI. Is there a way to stand out?

I’ve been enjoying using AI tools for prospect research and scalable outreach. However, I’ve been getting minimal responses over the last month, despite my emails feeling stronger based on the signals I’m leaning on.

Being curious, I reached out to our demand gen team and one thing they mentioned to me is that all the emails they receive focus on the same signals and don’t really stand out. For example, whenever our company posts something new on LinkedIn or our company blog, there’s an influx of messages catered to the theme of the post.

Has anyone faced a similar issue and found a way to pivot and stand out?

For under $700, is the Carbon Evo the best option? Any others to consider?

Perfect Ear, Functional Ear Training, Sonofield. So many options but which is great for a beginner?

There are so many options when researching ear training apps. Are any of the ones I mentioned good for beginners looking to get into ear training?

Sonofield seems to focus on feeling state while
some of the others focus on interval training. Not sure which is more helpful.

Looking for MPC Workflow Tips

Thanks to this community, I decided on getting a Live 3 and have been enjoying it so far. It feels so immediate and quick to put ideas down, but I'm coming from a DAW so getting used to certain changes in workflow is something I'm still learning.

Hoping to get some tips from the community on how to better utilize the Live 3. Couple things that I've faced that feel a little clunky:

  • Is there an easy way to copy fx over from one track to another? I could make presets, but it would be nice to be able to copy/paste without needing to save presets
  • Is it possible to quickly transpose by an octave in Grid view?
  • Any sequencer tips? Mainly if there are any cool ways to apply LFO's or modulation to steps to make things feel more alive or randomized.

Push 3 vs Live 3?

I know there may be some bias in this community but deciding between the two. I already have ableton but I’m looking for a more standalone experience that’s outside of the laptop.

Push 3 has the seamless integration with ableton, but I’ve seen a lot of reviews talk about the workflow being kind of clunky in standalone. Seems to do better as a controller.

Live 3 seems more immediate in terms of putting a beat together but problems seems to start when you try to fx process or apply automation.

Would love to hear people’s experience with either. I mainly make house music and jungle

Drum machine: yay or nay?

With all the drum samples readily available, is anyone still using a hardware drum machine? Seems like a fun way to experiment with drum programming outside of the daw

Drum machine recommendations for a hybrid setup?

Looking for recommendations on a drum machine that works well in a hybrid setup, specifically ableton.

Mainly interested in melodic techno so the perkons doesn’t seem like a good fit. From my research it seems like the best options are RD-9(no usb audio tho), TR8S or one of the elektron boxes.

Any others to consider? Budget is pretty flexible

Besides Push & Move, what hardware has made ableton more engaging/fun?

Still under a year in my music making journey but I’ve been hitting a wall in terms of having fun with ableton. Mouse and keyboard is no doubt the fastest workflow, but I’m just not finding it inspiring?

I’m mainly in arrangement mode so not sure if Push is right for me and I didn’t really like the Move when I tried it at a friends house. Mainly because the sampling workflow seemed limiting.

Are there any hardware pieces that made the music making process more fun for you with ableton?

Push 3 Controller or TR8S?

Kind of torn between the two.

The immediacy of the TR8S seems up my alley, but it seems like once you want to get into more manipulation of the sounds, it can get tedious with its menu diving. I also like the faders and it seeming like a more improvisational and jamming tool.

The Push can do so much more than drums but doesn't seem as immediate and more of a tool/extension for ableton. Maybe it's something that comes with time?

Any advice or experience is much appreciated.
