Hosting a 40th birthday at home or renting a venue?

I’m planning my husband’s 40th in December for about 55 people, including 16 kids. We’re torn between renting a venue for around $5k or hosting at home with a 20x20 heated tent in the backyard.

My husband prefers hosting at home and spending more on food and drinks. I’m leaning that way too, but I’m worried about the weather, space, and the tent looking thrown together rather than like a nice milestone celebration.

Has anyone done something similar? Would you host at home or just pay for the venue?

Anniversary Recommendations

Im coming up on my 5yr wedding anniversary & it’s my year to plan. I really want to make this one special as my daughter just turned 2 & I’m finally feeling back to normal (& wanting to have sex again😂🎉). Only have 2 weeks to plan though & an overnight sitter for 1 night (possibly 2) Thanks in advance!

Would you switch daycares over the closure schedule?

My 2-year-old has been at her daycare for a year and we really like it. She loves her teachers, it's close to home, and we have no issues with the care.

The problem is the schedule. Next year they're closed a week in March, a week in July, a week in August, 2 weeks in Dec, half days the Friday before each of the closures & some scattered admin days + all bank holidays.

I've found other centers with significantly fewer closures, but I'm torn about moving her from somewhere she's happy just for the schedule.
Would you switch or just figure out backup care?

Is this a normal amount for school closures for daycare

I just got the daycare closures for the year and it seems excessive:

Aug 30–Sept 7: Labor Day Break — 6 days
Oct 12: Professional Development — 1 day
Nov 26–27: Thanksgiving Break — 2 days
Dec 22: Early Dismissal (11 AM) — ½ day
Dec 23–Jan 3: Christmas/Winter Break — 8 days
Jan 18: MLK Jr. Day — 1 day
Feb 12: Professional Development — 1 day
Feb 15: Presidents Day — 1 day
Mar 19: Early Dismissal (11 AM) — ½ day
Mar 22–29: Spring Break — 6 days
May 31: Memorial Day — 1 day
June 18: Juneteenth Observed — 1 day
June 25: Early Dismissal (11 AM) — ½ day
June 28–July 2: Summer Vacation Closure — 5 days

Is this normal or should I look elsewhere? Also, does anyone have any recommendations (primarily in the Ardmore, Narberth, Wynnewood, Overbrook Farms, Wynnefield Heights, Bala Cynwyd areas)

How many days off is normal for daycare?

Just found out my daycare center is closed the week of Labor Day. They were also closed the week of 4th of July & a week off for Easter break, the last 2 weeks of the year & all the rest of the holidays. I’m tempted to start looking elsewhere but wanted to check if this is normal.

Is it normal for people to leave their door open/unlocked when they’re home?

Let me preference this with I’m from here and am a very risk adverse person. I’m having a debate with my husband & need a sanity check here. I obviously think it’s stupid to leave the door open/unlocked whether you’re home or not. Because 1. I watch a lot of crime shows & 2. Again, I’m from here. But my husband thinks my rule is dumb because he’s home so if the door is open/unlocked he can stop the intruder if it does happen /it most likely won’t happen. Please help me settle this with your opinion/cautionary tales.

[Landlord - PA] Am I being paranoid?

Tenant moved in a month ago. She's the only person on the lease. A few things seem odd:

- She accidentally texted me instead of someone else saying, "The house people just texted and asked when I want to move in."

- She owns another home that isn't listed for sale.

- The first month's rent came from someone else's Zelle account.

I don't have any actual proof of anything, but it makes me wonder if she's renting the place for someone else. Would this raise any flags for you, or am I being paranoid?
