Reekon digital readout tape measure
Reekon sent me a freebie to try out of their digital read out tape measure. It's pretty cool! I am a millwright and we do pipe fitting and I used it recently on a job
The good - super smooth action. Tape flies right out. It has an auto lock or lock open feature. The readout is very bright. Uses a regular usb type c. You have all the units you could want for the display even tho I requested the inch only tape itself. It has a very high quality feel to it. The tape is bright and easy to read manually. It has a feature for the display to automatically subtract the length of the body for inside dimensions. It's very accurate.
The bad - it is pretty heavy and it's 5-3/4" long. I probably would not hang it from my hip. It's awkward to hold and gets some getting used too. It only had a 7' standout. It breaks right about 8' and before that it had a long bow. For pipe fitting this is difficult because I put my hangers ten feet apart. The digital readout works if you're always measuring at the tape body. I found myself eventually just using it like a traditional tape measure. Also at any real distance beyond 3 or 4 feet you have to help the tape retract.
Overall it's a sweet novelty. It would stand up as an everyday tape. It also depends on the style in which you use a tape. I feel it would be best for layout guys in the carpentry and sheet metal shops that work on a bench instead of how I use it fifteen feet in the air. I used it to figure out the inside dimensions of a tool box and cut a bunch of drawer mats perfectly. I'm not sure the price but I would recommend anyone to give it a try.
