1301 Tactical Mag Tube Extension options?

1301 Tactical Mag Tube Extension options?

My 1301 tactical currently has the nordic mxt extension, so 7+1. I'm hoping for a solution that allows me to switch to 8+1. I use this gun for some casual 2gun, 3gun matches and would rather be able to quad load 2x instead of 1x quad load plus partials. Appreciate the advice.

Lowlight 2gun kit for this weekend.

Going with this kit for funsies at a upcoming low light match. Was told to expect vehicle starts so decided to go with a shortie.

Staccato HD Mag Extensions Compared - May 2026 Update

Updated 5/12/26 - A comparison of several MecGar Glock17 mag extensions. Hope someone finds this helpful at some point. Over insertion is tested with Staccato magwell. Capacity is based on standard lock back follower.

Excess Arms (23)

Toolless: No, requires a small hex wrench.

Over Insertion Protection: Yes

Note: Set screw pins mag tube in place. Set screw is discrete but is annoying to install/disassemble, can only do half turns with a hex wrench. Black anodized finish is rough to the touch. 9 dimpled mag markers available on the bottom.

Jagerwerks / Driven Arms Co (22)

Toolless: No, requires a small hex wrench.

Over Insertion Protection: Yes

Note: Stainless steel insert locks mag tube in place, secured by hex screw. Smooth black anodized finish. This one is slightly taller than the rest, might not pass the 141.25mm mag length test.

Springer Precision (23)

Toolless: No, hex screw retains mag tube, accessible from bottom of base pad

Over Insertion Protection: Yes

Note: Excellent finish. While not toolless, the hex screw is well protected and easy to access. Pass 140mm gauge test. Pricing is $35 but wants $10 for MecGar extra power spring. Mag ID engraving available at extra charge.

MecGar Extended (20)

Toolless: Yes, yank metal tab like most MecGar mags for euro pistols.

Over Insertion Protection: Yes

Note: Plastic extended base plate is beefy but ugly. These can really take a beating.

Staccato Extended (20)

Toolless: Yes, same metal tab as MecGar extended mags and other MecGar euro pistols.

Over Insertion Protection: Yes

Note: Looks nice but serves the same function as the plastic MecGar extended base pads. Finish is rough, similar to Excess arms extensions.

Dawson Precision (22)

Toolless: Yes, sliding side plate runs along a rail and is captured by detent.

Over Insertion Protection: No

Note: Very cool tool-less design, but fails over insertion test with and without depressing mag release, the top bullet will contact your ejector. They will pass over insertion test if you use a Dawson magwell. Do not use these if you reload from slide lock unless you switch to a Dawson magwell.

OEM Staccato/MecGar (18)

Toolless: No, requires a small punch.

Over Insertion Protection: Yes

Note: Nearly flush with Staccato magwell, will be hard to remove if stuck.

Summary

Best aesthetics & finish - Jagerwerks/Driven Arms and Spring Precision both offer the best finish quality as well as great angles and chamfers.

Best capacity - Excess Arms or Springer Precision, you can get up to 23+1 with these.

Ease of disassembly - Dawson. However this is the only tested extension that is not over insertion safe.

Best value - If you want 140mm mags, Excess Arms or Springer Precision. Between these two I would go Springer because of easier assembly and disassembly.

Update 5/12/26 - Henning has confirmed they're planning to make mag extensions for the MecGar Glock mags. Currently no eta on production.

PDP F-Series Pro-X PMM @ Club Match

Pistol shot great, name still too long. Got a failure to eject in one of the stages but was not repeated. Placed 6th. The pint size PDP F-Series is keeping up well with several of the full size guns I typically shoot.

MP5SD Clone at a Club Match

PTR 9SDM-Bravo shooting 124gr S&B. First time shooting a match on the MP5 platform. Turns out I'm no good at reloading MP5s, was fun though.

Brought an SD to a casual match

I learned that I'm not very good at reloading MP5s. Also the SD is quiet enough that I can get free reshoots when the timer inevitably fail to pick up my last shot. I'm shitty at shooting PCC, don't be too harsh.

Had a breezy, low 80s day at Delmarva yesterday. Managed to compare a PTR MP5SD clone shooting 124gr vs a few popular 9mm cans on a full size MP5 clone shooting 147gr subs. Chrono showed the SD barrel length and porting bled off about 300 FPS on the 124gr supers. Audio is from shooter's perspective via microphone on hat.

Tested PTR's SDM9-Bravo running 124gr S&B vs a few popular 9mm cans running 147 Winchester subs. Microphone is a Rode II wireless on shooter's hat. Chrono results below.

Had a chance to side by side the PTR 9SDM-Bravo with the Lithium 9 and Mob. Audio is sourced from Rode microphone on hat brim. Ammo was all 124gr S&B. Put 300 rounds through the 9SDM-B today. Its definitely optimized for 124, though it bleeds off 115 velocity quite well. Barrel ports looks pretty clean, though receiver was pretty filthy. Accuracy was better than expected for a 6" barrel with holes carved into it., one ragged hole at the 25yd zero. 2 FTE over 300 rounds, both were in the first 100rds.

Forgot the subsonics at home today, will make an comparison update that includes the full size shooting 147gr vs 124 on the 9SDM-B.

Received 3x form4 approvals today and took the 9SDM-B home for a closer look. Going to be testing this against the full size 9CT shooting supers and subs through several popular 9mm cans next week (Wolfman, Obsidian9, Lithium9, and MOB). Below are some initial thoughts with in no particular order. Will come back next week with some comparison footage.

- Ships in a high quality case and while the foam was nicely cut, it was cut by an idiot, there is no room in the cutout for a mounted optic.

- Factory trigger is actually quite nice, nicer than my 9CT and other factory HK & clone triggers I've used. Ripped that thing out immediately (New game mode unlocked).

- Stock is well made and comfortable to shoulder. Took a little bit of lube to get it to slide nicely.

- Stock buttpad comes with two QD cups but are not limited rotation, a little annoying.

- Primary suppressor is 3D printed in HUB-B threads, very light weight at 8.6oz.

- Pre-suppressor has no gas channeling to speak off, but has both alpha and bravo threads. There is a BYO primary suppressor version of this gun so its ready to accept a lot of cans.

- Barrel porting is machined into slots along the groves of the rifling.

- Handguard has a little flex to it but is firm enough and is easy to diassemble, via a tapered torx screw at the top of the handguard.

- Clearance of handguard to primary suppressor is tight, there is room for mlok nuts to fit but its not going to like longer mlok screws.

- The monolithic rail is actually quite handy, the included HK style folding sights are nice too, rear has two apertures.

Ran drills on the 4.5 in moderate to heavy rain for a few hours today while other 2011s hid in the crate. Caught up on some owed cleaning when I got home. The 4.5 has exceeded expectations for me, reached the 2k mark, only took 3 weeks on this one.
