Diplomats Fried Brisling Sardines

First time trying this brand, bought from a local European market. Cost was $3.50 per tin.

Packaging is high quality, nice cardstock sleeve with a clean design.

When I opened the can, there was a nice lemon scent and not much else. Appearance is pretty standard for fried sardines, maybe would have preferred to see a little more skin when I opened the can.

Taste was pleasant and mild. The fish flavor was there but not forward. I had it on toast with cream cheese, which was perfectly serviceable.

There were a few pieces of lemon at the bottom of the tin, which was nice to see them using actual fruit instead of just oils and juices for flavoring.

My son shared this tin with me, and between bites he was stomping his feet for more. I should note that he decided to eat the fish in between bites of Cocoa Puffs. Read into that how you will.

Rating: 4/5. Lemon isn’t my absolute favorite but this was pretty good.

My son’s rating: 5/5, great with dry cereal and a sippy cup of milk

[Bulova] You guys said 39mm was too small, so I got something bigger

I posted a pic of my 39mm Tudor Ranger a few weeks back and the consensus was that it was just a bit in the small side.

I picked up a 45mm Lunar Pilot recently and I think from here out I’m gonna stick with bigger watches. I don’t have a Panerai AD near me, but that’s on the list to check out next time I travel. Still waiting on my Rolex AD to get a James Cameron in to try on, but if that drags on too long they are available at retail on the gray market.

I still have the Ranger and I’m looking at some NATO straps that might bulk it up a bit.

Mirror shot to show the actual size on my wrist.

[Bulova] Fit Check - Lunar Pilot 45mm

Just picked up this Bulova Lunar Pilot in the mail. It feels pretty substantial for a quartz watch, I’m assuming from the larger case and large slab of crystal on top.

This is my first 45mm watch and I think it actually wears smaller than expected - the lugs are pretty curved and the bracelet hugs the wrist well.

I know there’s a smaller version but I’m thinking this is the ticket, especially as the bracelet fit right out of the box.

Overall it’s a pretty cool watch, the chronograph function with the split seconds dial is a neat addition and it’s interesting to see a quartz watch with a smooth sweep.

Don’t see many of these - Tudor Style 41mm

Picked this up a few years ago, the first Tudor I ever bought. Been wearing it a bit more lately, it’s a great watch.

[Hamilton] Murph 42

I’ve owned this Murph for about 3 years now, and it’s a pretty common one to reach for. I usually wear my field watches on a NATO strap, but this one never really worker on a NATO.

I’m trying it out on this two piece nylon strap from Blushark, and damn if it doesn’t feel great. It 100% sold on how it looks, the Murph has always occupied that weird in between space between classic field watch and something dressier that looks good on leather. Let me know what you think.

Murph 42 - New Strap

Picked up a new Alphashark nylon 2pc strap for my Murph, wanted something a little more rugged than leather but never loved it on a NATO.

Strap looks and wears great, but I’m not 100% sold that it goes with the Murph - might need to pick up a Khaki King or something similar to go with it instead.

[Tudor] Ranger 39 - NATO Strap

I just got a new NATO strap for my Ranger. Been on a bit of a kick recently and found a new brand that I really like.

I have heard great things about the Ranger bracelet, but to me it’s a watch that belongs on a strap of some kind. The OEM strap is great but unfortunately not quite long enough to work on my wrist.

Still looking for a nice brown leather strap as well, so if anyone has recommendations I’m all ears.

Ranger 39 - New NATO

Just got another NATO in the mail, it’s one of the new Alphashark premier ones. Little pricey at $39 but it’s comfortable and well put together.

Assuming one has the wrist for it, is there any reason to not get a SeaMaster Chronograph over a regular SMP300

There are some smoking deals on these PO and Seamaster chronos on the gray market, and I’m thinking about picking one up. The fact that you can get a coaxial GMT chrono for under $5k is crazy.

I’m assuming that the main reason for the discount is that few people can wear a 18mm thick watch with a 44mm diameter, but my wrist is pretty big and I’m looking for something in that size range. Last pic is me wearing a 45mm for reference.

Was wondering if there were any other drawbacks to these compared to a regular SMP300, like bracelet or movement issues. Appreciate any input.

IWC Need to Make Larger Watches

The Big Pilot 46 isn’t even that big, pic for reference. They need to add something to establish dominance over the Deepsea Challenge and Omega Project Alaska. 50mm is a starting point.

Ranger on Sailcloth

Decided to put my Ranger on a new strap and thought sailcloth would look nice. I think it works pretty well.

[Tudor] Ranger 39 Fit Check

Pic of my Tudor Ranger that I’ve owned for a few years. I love the watch and it’s one of my favorite tool watches, but sometimes I see it in the mirror and think it would be nice if it had a little more wrist presence on me. Maybe I just need a new strap that has a little more going on than this black rubber one to balance it out.

I know that field watches are traditionally smaller than something like a pilot watch or Diver, so maybe I’m overthinking it, but if they released a 42mm version I’d be all over it. I have a Hamilton Murph that’s about the perfect size IMO. Let me know your thoughts on how this mirror shot looks!

[Hamilton] Khaki Pilot Day Date “Cooper”

This is my Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day Date, also called the “Cooper” after the character from interstellar.

This one is a staple in my rotation, as it’s got a great combination of functionality, legibility and a really good bracelet for the price range.

I got this and the Murph as a present from my wife a few years back, because she knows I really love the movie and these watches are a great link to that.

One thing I really like about this watch is the indices. They are applied and have a pattern on them that really reflects light. They actually aren’t liked but you might think they are in the right light.

Taking a tax hit to avoid SpaceX exposure is recklessly nearsighted

SpaceX will be 0.2-0.3% of VT and approx 1% of QQQ.

Taking any amount of a tax hit to rotate out of those funds will cause an order of magnitude more damage to your account than if SpaceX went bankrupt the day after listing.

[Invicta, Tag Heuer] Biggest and Smallest watches I own

The Invicta was a gift from a close friend, 50mm diver of some sort. I don’t wear it but won’t get rid of it due to the sentimental value. It’s huge, over 60mm lug to lug with a 26mm band.

The Tag is from my old man, he gave it to me a few years back because he now wears an Apple Watch. 38mm Professional 200. I wear it pretty regularly, on a Alphashark NATO (the original metal bracelet is too small for my wrist)

I don’t think I would buy anything larger or smaller than either of these, although a Deepsea Challenge would be a fun pickup down the road…
