My family tells me that I should be speaking to several men and then choosing one from among them. There’s a specific maah maah they use for this. I find it difficult to do shukansi the way they want me to. They expect me to become emotionally attached to people and lie about my feelings for them. I don’t understand how that is even normalised in our culture.

Its one thing to talk to people and see if you’re compatible, but it’s another thing entirely to be in a ful blown relationship with many people and call it baraasho. I think of it as emotional whoring excuse my language and what’s even crazier to me is that it seems to be normalised even among very practicing Somalis, including actual wadaads. Am I the only who thinks this is messed up?

He recently told me his family took out a loan and since he's the sole provider, he's working hard to pay it off and expecting to be done in atlesst 2.5 yrs.My question is, do you think it is advisable to get involved with someone whose family has loans ?

Diaspora Somalis need to stop looking down on Somalis back home or elsewhere in Africa. Having more exposure, education, or opportunities is a privilege, not a reason to feel superior. Majority of them are disadvantaged because they don’t know English, which limits access to information and exposure on how to navigate worldly matters. Many also don’t know Arabic which limits access to religious knowledge as well as other beneficial knowledge. I believe if they knew better they would t have acted the way they do ( abnoxious behaviour on the Internet). You don’t have to agree with everything they do, but show empathy instead of arrogance and see them as dad lunsaan pray Allah guides them and give them better risq . This superiority complex needs to stop!

I had gone through heartbreak a month ago, and I have lost myself and became suicidal. I know exactly what I need to do to pick myself up and focus on important things, but I just can't. I work from. Home and I live alone in a city. My routine is just to wake up, work, eat, that's it. I don't know how to stop this loop. This week, I went to see a doctor to check my vitamin, and my vitamin D I was severely low. I got the meds, but I just don't have the energy to take it.
