Lan Jingyi B-Day Art
I just really adore the autumn vibes of this illustration. (though if I didn’t know I wouldn’t be able to tell if this was Jingyi or Sizhui)
His birthday is August 24th
Polish MDZS B&W illustration
This is the scene when WWX and LWJ are playing Rest to calm down the arm
The publisher said there will be 6 b&w illustrations in total.
Wangxian in Red & Other Merch
Recently got these two Wangxian washcloths which I decided to use as wall decorations instead. I think they are so cute.
Also just got this Phoenix Mountain Kiss wall scroll
today. It came in a separate fancy wooden box. It’s definitely one of my favorites now but I am sadly running out of wall space.
The rest of the stuff has been up for awhile. 😅
Paying Instacart with PayPal Debit
I just put an order in at Instacart for tomorrow using my PayPal debit card to get reward points on groceries
However I am a little concerned considering how PayPal debit and Instacart works.
With PayPal debit you have to first put funds from your bank onto the debit card.
I did this and put like a $10 extra cushion for the Instacart charge. Now Instacart charges you about 4% extra as a pending authorization fee. That money has already been taken off my PayPal debit.
What I am worried about is I will be charged again tomorrow but the pending charge won’t come off fast enough and I will be charged but I will then have insufficient funds on my PayPal debit card. Unless I add the funds to my card again but I really don’t want to have do that. Because then I would have to take double the amount out of my bank account. Even if I get it back eventually I don’t want to lose that money now.
Does anyone have experience with paying with PayPal debit and can explain how it works? I am sorry if this is a dumb question.

Parent Trap vs Parent Trap
So one of the things that I feel must divide Xennials and younger millennials is what version of Parent Trap you grew up with.
The version with Lindsay Lohan came out in the late 90’s. I was either a Sophmore or Junior in High School. I watched the movie once. But by the time it had come out I had already grown up on the Hayley Mills version- which I still love to this day.
Battery Confirmation
Once an item arrives to the warehouse if I ask Zen Market can they confirm if an item has batteries or would that be an extra cost?
Note it’s a small prize fan and the description says it takes AAA batteries which are sold separately so I don’t think it has batteries but I also want to ask for the batteries to be removed if it does. I just don’t want to incur extra costs if I don’t have to.
This is the item for reference

That being said I am not sure if there would be any restrictions to the US if there were batteries in the item.
Classic AMVS
Does anyone else miss classic AMVS?
I know they are still made but the level of storytelling and editing just was so much better back then to me compared to now when everyone could just upload something quick on YouTube or TikTok.
This was definitely one of my favorites back in the day.
Wen Ning's Consciousness and WWX's Control
WWX does not seem to ever control Wen Ning when he is conscious- at least not anytime that we witness
Just an observation I made. Note I am specifically saying when he is conscious not after his conscious returns. I will explain by looking at Wen Ning in both lives.
First Life
Wei Wuxain is finally able to return Wen Ning to consciousness in the chapter Distance during the scene when Lan Wangji visits the Burial Mounds.
By returning Wen Ning’s consciousness. Wen Ning is no longer a mindless fierce corpse and retains his sense of self and reason.
While Wei Wuxian does control Wen Ning’s corpse before he regains his conscious (to kill the guards, to battle with Jiang Cheng in their pretend fight, etc) we don’t see WWX actually control Wen Ning again until Jin Zixuan’s death. But this scene may not be what it seems. People may miss that Wen Ning removes a talisman giving control over to Wei Wuxian
>Wei Wuxian sneered. "You're asking for it!"
>As soon as he spoke, Wen Ning reached out and snapped the red string tied around his own neck, releasing the talisman it secured. The instant the red string broke, he swayed. The muscles on his face began to contort, and strange black cracks appeared on his skin, crawling up his neck to his cheeks. All of a sudden, he tilted his head back and let loose a long, inhuman roar!
Wei Wuxian also later mentions that Wen Ning was not in a conscious state when he killed Jin Zixuan.
>Wen Ning was nothing but a weapon while he ran berserk And it was none other than Wei Wuxian who had created that weapon. Wen Ning heeded his com-mands, and those commands were his to give. Back in the valley, the air had crackled with tension and murderous intent. On top of that, he never hesitated to show animosity toward Jin Zixuan in front of Wen Ning. And so when Wen Ning, locked in a state where he was incapable of conscious thought, saw Jin Zixuan make a move, he recognized him as an enemy. He executed Wei Wuxian's order to kill without a moment's hesitation.
Of course the text doesn’t really offer any concrete explanation of what this berserk state is and why they would choose to use it. My guess is that Wen Ning is stronger & more dangerous in this state.
>Jiang Cheng, “Haven’t you always said the fiercer the better? The heavier the resentful energy is, the greater the hatred is, and the stronger the power is.”
>Wei WuXian, “That’s right. But I don’t want to make Wen Ning into this kind of corpse.”
Perhaps Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning thought in their present situation of being ambushed with no other weapons they had no other choice which would certainly add to the tragedy. But of course the plot also just needed Wen Ning to be in in an unconscious state.
Another thing that is not entirely clear here is that after the Jin Zixuan incident it seems that Wen Ning’s consciousness eventually returns on its own without Wei Wuxian’s intervention so perhaps its meant to be a temporary state when needed and Wen Ning will return on his own as a fail safe? But that's just a guess.
>Wei WuXian’s head was blank. He didn’t know how long had passed when his eyes finally shot open again. What he saw was the dark ceiling of the Demon-Slaughtering Cave. Both Wen Qing and Wen Ning were inside.Wen Ning’s pupils had fallen into the whites of his eyes again. He was already out of his rampage appearing to be conversing with Wen Qing in a low voice.
Now I will also say that the text reveals that after Wen Ning’s consciousness comes back Wei Wuxian’s fierce corpse Wen Ning was a master at Night Hunts. However we do not see these nights hunts happen first hand we are only told about them. If my theory is correct then Wei Wuxian was not controlling Wen Ning on these hunts as the text makes note of Wen Ning being capable of higher thought. But there is not exactly conclusive evidence either way.
>Wei Wuxian, the man who had defected from the Jiang Clan and established his own sect on the peaks of Yiling, had refined a fierce corpse of the highest caliber ever achieved. It moved quickly, boasted extraordinary strength, and had no fear. Its movements were brutal and ruthless, and its mind was intact and capable of higher thought. It was invincible on Night Hunts.
Second Life
When we are first introduced to Wen Ning in the second life he again is a mindless fierce corpse.
>Low-level corpses were unable to think on their own and needed his orders to lead them.Powerful fierce corpses, on the other hand, were usually delirious or unconscious. Yet, Wen Ning’scase was different—he was created by Wei WuXian, which meant that he could easily be called thestrongest fierce corpse in the current world. He was the only one who was capable of thought. Asidefrom not fearing injuries, fire, the cold, poison, and whatever living humans feared, he was the same as one. However, at that moment, Wen Ning clearly wasn’t conscious!
In the early parts of the book and through the Yi City arc we again see Wei Wuxian often control Wen Ning with his bamboo flute.
It is later revealed that Wen Ning lost his consciousness because of nails that were embedded in his skull by Xue Yang.
>The person who kept and restrained Wen Ning must have prevented him from thinking on his own. To make him listen to other people’s orders, Wen Ning’s sanity must have been destroyed, which meant that they must’ve planted something inside his head. As he had expected, after pushing around a few times, Wei WuXian found a hard nib on an acupoint of the right side of his head. He put his other hand on the left side of Wen Ning’s head and found the same thing, resembling the end of a needle.
>Wei WuXian pinched both needle ends at the same time and gradually pulled two black, long nails from within Wen Ning’s skull.
Wei Wuxian removes the nails in the chapter Stalks of Grass but because it takes time for it to take effect we only finally meet the real soft spoken Wen Ning in the next chapter allure. After this we do not see Wei Wuxian control Wen Ning with ghost cultivation again (at least I am pretty sure I didn't miss anything). Wei Wuxian does still ask things of Wen Ning but Wen Ning of course doesn’t always do exactly what Wei Wuxian wants but often instead what he thinks is best- such as telling Jiang Cheng about the Golden core and helping Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji when Wei Wuxian at first doesn't even notice he is there.
Apologies for so many posts today but I hope someone else at least may find this interesting.

All Major Events Happened Within 3 Months
Okay not actually everything but if you remember something happened within a 3 month period in the book you will often be right
Here are the major events that happen during 3 months:
Wei Wuxian studies at the Cloud Recesses where he first meets Lan Wangji for 3 months
When Wei Wuxian reflected on it later, the start of his poor relationship with Lan Wangji could probably be traced back to the year when he was fifteen. That was when he and Jiang Cheng went to the Lan Clan of Gusu to study for three months
Wei Wuxian is trapped in the Burial Mounds for 3 months
From the words of Wen Chao
"It's been over three months
since I threw him into the Burial Mounds," Wen Chao said. "Why do you still dream about him? It's been so many times!"
Around this same time the clans declare war on the Wen Clan
That was why they hadn't taken it seriously, three months ago, when the four clans of Jin, Nie, Lan, and Jiang formed an alliance and revolted under the banner of—whatever they called it, the "Sunshot Campaign" or something.
And when Wei Wuxian takes the Wen Renmants to the Burial Mounds he confirms that he survived there for a period of 3 months
"I lived here for three months before,"
Wei Wuxian stated.
Then after the events of Nightless City, Lan Wangji protecting Wei Wuxian and returning him to the Burial Mounds another 3 months takes place until the siege and Wei Wuxian’s eventual death
Every clan suffered heavy casualties in the battle. The four major clans took three months to rally their strength and solidify their plans before they launched a successful siege of the demon's lair, the Burial Mounds. And thus, they repaid the slaughter in kind to the evil Wen survivors and the mad Yiling Patriarch.
And ending on a happier note Wangxian’s honeymoon period before they return to the Cloud Recesses is also 3 months
Since that night at the Guanyin Temple in Yunmeng, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji had traveled together, wandering all over with Little Apple in tow. They still "appeared wherever there was chaos"—wherever there was talk of hauntings and evil disrupting people's lives, they would go to lend a helping hand. They'd also sightsee while they were at it and learn about the local culture. They had spent three
months this way, shutting out all news of the cultivation world and living a carefree life.
I am not really sure if there is any cultural meaning behind 3 months and please someone add if there is. I just think of 3 months perfectly fitting into one season. And a single season can bring a significant change to your life.
However in the very first version of MDZS it was actually 3 years between the events of Nightless City and the Siege of the Burial Mounds/WWX’s death but MXTX changed it to 3 months for her final edit.
Also as a bonus
The cultivation sects had strict criteria for determining whether something was a "malicious ghost": one was considered such if it killed once a month for up to three months consecutively. This was a criterion Wei Wuxian himself had set, and it was probably still in use now.
Hana Kimi
Really enjoying the anime it’s giving me a real nostalgic feel.
Honestly I never read the manga but I started watching anime in the year 2000 (it’s an easy year to remember) so everything about this series from the clothes to the tropes feels super familiar & comfortable to me.
My only nitpick is I wish they didn’t have them using phones to take photos. Eveything about the series screams late 90’s and early 00’s- so when I see them take out a modern phone it takes me right out. I know it’s silly but I dislike when series update things for modern audiences. I want the series to remind me of the past not today.
