How would you have reacted if this leaked without context two months before the finale?

And I'm not talking about the fact the whole movie leaked in another language. I mean... what if it was just this image!?

What do you think is the worst thing Jax has ever done?

I'm aware of 3 good candidates. Hard to say.

If Evil Gangle existed

I think her base mask would be a mischievous evil grin, but she'd wear a puppy dog crying face on top of of to manipulate people into feeling sorry for her.

This is the only way I can think of to make an "opposite" version of Gangle that doesn't just self-implode. Gangle is kind of her own opposite as is. But the difference here would be which mask is the "real" one.

For Gangle, it's the tragedy mask. For Evil Gangle, it would be the comedy mask.

It feels like a genuine missed opportunity that When They Come for Me wasn't used in the Planet of the Apes films

Or Avatar (the blue aliens.) You know, stories that are tribal yet sci-fi. WTCFM has that tone. And it would have been really cool to see it included in something like that.

What would you say is their "Villain Song?"

Some examples of what I'm talking about:

Bad Guy by Billie Eilish

Heathens by Twenty One Pilots

Enemy by Imagine Dragons

Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift

Control by Halsey

Basically, songs where the singer sounds like a psychopath. Cold. Calculating. An ominous tone overall.

A lot of modern artists have made a point to make at least one song like like that.

What would you say is the closest Linkin Park ever got to that same vibe?

For those who don't know, Lost Demos exists

It's essentially the best unused demos from Meteora 20th Aniversary addition compiled together in a short playlist. It's on their official YouTube channel so it's not just some fan compilation. This is legit.

For all intents and purposes, this is basically a whole other album.

If you ever wanted Meteora 2, this is it.

I predict the next album will sound like Overflow

Look at all of their previous work before From Zero. Since the start of their career, Linkin Park has always been about experimenting, pushing boundaries, and making music like no one had ever heard before. Even when their albums were divisive, like One More Light, Living Things, The Hunting Party, etc, there was always a clear vision. And it was always radically different from what came before it.

Now look at From Zero. Whether you personally like the album or not, stylistically, it feels like they were just trying to do Meteora again.

That's why I predict that Overflow might be a sign of the direction they'll go next. It's the only new song from them that feels like they were actually experimenting and pushing boundaries the way they used to. I've never heard anything else like it.

If I'm right, then this might be similar to how the songs from Minutes to Midnight that sounded the least like Meteora were Shadow of the Day and Leave Out All the Rest... and then the next album - A Thousand Suns - was almost nothing but songs with that same vibe (Robot Boy, Irridescent, Burning in the Skies, etc.)

I suspect this is gonna be the same sort of thing.

Primo is so beautiful!!! I'm actually crying right now!!! 😭😭😭

You guys need to listen to this masterpeice if you haven't yet!

It's the original version of I'll Be Gone, from Living Things. But it's a different song all together. The chorus is completely different. The context is more immediate a more human. The bridge has the added line "there's nothing that can stop me... from going home."

It was appearently intended to be on A Thousand Suns... why did they not include it!!!???" Put it in right before Iridescent and it would have added so much! It reads like a soldier going to war, not knowing if he'll come back in one piece. It could have given the whole album so much more of a grounded perspective that, as is, isn't really there.

Also, "miss me when I'm gone and don't let anyone take my place."

I do Chester. And no one can ever replace you 😭

Shadow of the Day + Thunder Storm = Peak

So there's a storm going on outside my window right now. Shadow of the Day came up on my playlist. And the thunder crashed in loud as hell and... Holy shit! It added so much to the song!

What if Minutes to Midnight was Meteora 2?

I know that on the surface, Minutes to Midnight looks like a massive tonal departure from what came before it, but if you look at the individual songs on their own, most of them actually sound like they could have been on Meteora. There's only really 2 or 3 that have a different vibe.

Namely:

  1. Leave Out all the Rest
  2. Shadow of the Day
  3. The Little Things Give You Away

Not because they're bad songs. They're not. But they're all slower, reflective ballads. And that's a completely different design philosophy from their older composition style.

Also, in regard to to the sense that the album slows down a lot in it's back half... that's only half accurate. The issue isn't necessarily that there's slower songs. Meteora itself actually had a couple of those. Easier to Run, From the Inside, and even Breaking the Habit to some extent. The issue is that they're all clustered together at the end. The songs themselves kind of do resemble Meteora sort of. But it's a sequencing issue.

And it turns out that if you cut out the ballads, there's still enough songs from bonus tracks and surrounding material written in the pre-2007 timeframe to fill out a whole alternate track order.

I'd sequence it like this

  1. Wake
  2. Given Up
  3. Bleed it Out
  4. More the Victim
  5. QWERTY
  6. In Pieces
  7. What I've Done
  8. No More Sorrow
  9. Valentines Day
  10. Hands Held High
  11. Lost
  12. In Between
  13. Fighting Myself
  14. No Roads Left
  15. Across the Line

BONUS TRACKS:
16. The Little Things Give You Away
17. Blackbirds

Note:
I did kind of cheat by including straight up Meteora era demos in the mix. But my justification for that is... is there any reason they wouldn't have reused older songs on a new album? Various bands do that all the time. In a hypothetical "what if" timeline where they stayed the course instead of reinventing themselves for their 3rd album, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't have done that. And since Fighting Myself, More the Victim, and Lost are the most finished tracks of the Lost Demos, and the ones the band themselves would later promote most down the line, they seemed the most logical to use.

Here's the playlist on YouTube Music

And on Spotify

EDIT:

For the record, I actually like the newer songs. My favorite album from them is A Thousand Suns. I'm not saying that they should go back to their older sound. This is just a hypothetical thought experiment I did for fun.

If they ever made a Biopic about Chester, here's the guy they they should cast to portray him

Dude's name is Tyson Cox. He's a small time comedian from Indiana.

Don't know how good of an actor he is, but he looks exactly like Chester doesn't he!?

Also, I know they're making an official documentary (Unshatter.) But that looks like it's gonna be less about Chester and more about how they found Emily and started over with her. That's a story worth telling. Don't get me wrong. But I mean down the line if they ever made something comparable to Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocketman, or Micheal.

If anyone deserves to get a movie like that made about him, it's Chester

What if Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns were One Album (Take 2: Electric Boogaloo)

Earlier today, I made another post where I tried to see if it was possible to whittle MTM and ATS down to the length of just one album without completely ruining what both of them were originally going for. And it turns out... it kind of is?

That's not what this post is.

I put together another playlist. This time, I said "screw concept albums" and just scrambled together the best songs from both MTM and ATS. Or rather, the songs that seemed closest to what we got on Hybrid Theory and Meteora anyway.

So if you ever wished they'd made a Meteora 2... here you go

1 Given Up

2 Bleed It Out

3 Wretches and Kings

4 In Pieces

5 Across the Line

6 Hands Held High

7 No More Sorrow

8 When They Come for Me

9 Leave Out All the Rest (Papercuts version)

10 Waiting for the End

11 Blackout

12 The Catalyst

13 Iridescent

14 What I’ve Done

Here it is on Spotify

And YouTube Music

Note: If you you decide you want to recreate this playlist on Apple Music or something like that, please use the Papercuts version of Leave Out All the Rest. That transition into Waiting for the End is kind of rough otherwise

The 9 types as drugs

Completely random and stupid I know

I saw another post like this recently and I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring

1: Caffeine - the most socially acceptable drug

2: MDMA - the love drug

  1. Adderall - lock in. Focus. Get shit done

  2. Psylocibin - introspection/creativity

  3. DMT - explore the secrets of the universe

  4. Alcohol - it numbs anxiety and lowers Inhibitions

  5. LSD - ...I mean... come on!

  6. Cocaine - no chill whatsoever

  7. Weed - ...do I even need to explain on this one?

The Outro on Hands Held High is one of the greatest musical moments they ever produced

Personal opinion of course

New fan here. Been going back listing to all their albums.

Something about the repeated "amen" in the background. Just... wow! It's like the explicit lyrics could either be drowning or a baptism depending in how you read it... which are kind of polar opposites. I've never heard anything like it.
