EV with least functions through a touchscreen/haptic

Which EV has the MOST functions through normal buttons, switches and dials?

Seems like automakers all think EV = tech toy/all functions through screens.

What to expect with i5 facelift in a few years?

In a ‘25 i5 now, had a look at the iX3 while getting something at dealer, hoping that customer feedback across the auto industry, wanting more real buttons and switches, might have penetrated.

Nope, it’s even less, with even more through the screen. Very sleek looking interior, feels more like a Tesla now. Fuck.

Recently drove a model S and it was awesome, but I really hate not having normal buttons and dials.

Is this likely what is also in store for the i5 at the time of facelift?

I’m really looking forward to the much improved range on the new battery, and the 800 V architecture.

What are the chances of getting this with the facelift in a few years, without much removal of buttons/switches from the interior, before the eventual full Neue Klasse?

The perfect car would be the upcoming gen 6 battery, 800 V charging architecture, G30 exterior appearance, and some hybrid of the interior functionality between the G30 and current Honda CRV hybrid.

Anyway, just wanted to rant.

People who paid big dollars to get a Telluride during/slightly after Covid, how is that going?

Saw a lot of pretty insane looking markups at that time, everybody wanted the telluride it seemed like. Did anybody buy one at that time, and how is that decision in retrospect?

M40 vs F40 Supreme skates

Trying on skates. Put one on each foot, then swapped. If blind, I couldn’t tell the difference (couldn’t tell any feel difference on F50 either, if not for the tendon guard). All the Bauer FIT 2 fit well on me.

Any reason to expect the F40 to have any performance benefit over the M40 (which is on sale)?

Bauer skate shrinkflation

Not literal shrinkflation, but I went to get my kid skates for this year (Junior size). He was very happy with supreme M40’s last couple of years.

So we go to find them, turns out model line has changed, it’s fuse line now. M4 Junior when released was $249. Oh look, the supreme F30 is $259. Seems right, a little price bump, must be roughly the same?

No sir. F30 is the new equivalent of the M3 ($199 at release) but at the price point of the M40. Booooo.

F40 is the new M40. And they don’t make that in Junior.

Fortunately we later online found leftover stock of M4’s on sale for $180 so we bought those.

All prices in CAD.

The i5 can charge at Tesla chargers in Canada now (and can use plug & charge)

Getting close to max possible rate (max is 205 I believe) starting around 25%.

If you have a ‘24 or ‘25, you need an adaptor to use the NACS (‘26 come with NACS afaik). BMW officially recommends the Lectron adapter, which I bought and seems to work flawlessly. You can get it through BMW, but I ordered mine on Amazon and it was about $75 cheaper.

Fun fact: in Canada, for whatever reason, Tesla chargers are also the only network set up for plug & charge for the i5 (not sure if this applies to all BMW) so this is my first time using that feature. Very cool to just plug in and it starts, not have to activate through an app, or swipe/tap a payment card. I guess this is what Tesla owners have already had for a decade lol.

Other weird fact: BMW has payment for plug & charge administered through Shell recharge. You set this up** **through the BMW app, not through the Shell website/app itself. But despite the payment for Tesla stations going through Shell recharge, you can’t use plug & charge at Shell chargers itself lol. Don’t ask me why.

One downside to the Tesla chargers is that I cannot figure out how to know what the cost is ahead of time, and you cannot see the rate of charge on the app. Downloading the Tesla app doesn’t do anything for you here either, you can’t register your car with Tesla, and it doesn’t know that you are charging with its chargers, so it won’t give you any information. You can only see the rate of charge while in the car, as shown on my display pic.

You can use Tesla’s app to find the cost of the charger, but it doesn’t otherwise register your vehicle or tell you what’s happening during your charge.

Unless there’s something in the BMW app I’m just missing? If so please let me know

Edit: If I log into my shell recharge account, I can see my invoice. So maybe if I had checked it during the charge, I might have been able to see the live rate of charge there.

Bauer FLY-G girls gear - any experience?

Since starting Hockey five years ago, my daughter has enjoyed those entry-level Bauer prodigy kits.

But she’s outgrown the youth kits and taken a few pucks to less covered areas, needs some better stuff.

This FLY-G line marketer to girls seem closest thing to the lightweight she’s looking for, and is 30ish% cheaper than FLY40.

Is it just more expensive X with girl marketing? Any experiences to share?

Latest update broke charger filtering?

Since the update, when looking for chargers using the in-car map, I can no longer filter by minimum charge speed. User to be there, now it’s not.

The filtering still works in the app. Anybody else notice this?

Help me understand this fraudulent credit card charge scam

I am in Canada, the bank in question is BMO, card is an BMO air miles Mastercard.

A few weeks ago, I got a new card because I was concerned about some fraudulent transactions, relatively low value.

New card came five days ago, and I started using it. Was fine until earlier today, when I went to register a kid for a sport. It said my card was declined.

Logged in to BMO and found that the credit limit was zero, meaning the card was maxed out. But looking at the online transactions list, I could not see any large transactions.

Called the bank, and they said I had several large transactions over the proceeding in two days, totally nearly $14,000. They said because it was the weekend, the transactions may not always appear right away online.

They cancelled my card again, and will issue another one. They have temporarily refunded me the money while they investigate.

Upon further questioning, they told it was three separate transactions, all between $4000 and $5000, one on July 11 and two on July 12. They were made at physical Apple Store locations in British Columbia, three separate stores, all in the Vancouver area. I live in Saskatchewan, I have not been out of province for months.

They said the means of transaction was Google pay, and someone used Google pay presumably on a device to make the transactions.

How would someone get my new card information that I’ve only had for a few days, onto Google pay that they control. I did not load the card onto Google pay or onto any other pay service.

And more importantly, how would they be able to use this to make a tap style payment? When you use any kind of tap pay, there is usually a transaction limit, typically a few hundred dollars. Just recently I had to pay for some service at an auto dealership, had forgotten my wallet, used tap, and it had to be done in two separate transactions because the limit was $250.

Bank has temporarily refunded me the amount while they investigate, and I am confident they will refund me permanently in the end (investigation can take up to 120 days) But I just don’t even understand how this happened?

Can anybody here help me out?

Can I get away with this?

Noticed a slow leak over a few days, got a nail in the sidewall, any chance of repair for this? We were going to leave for about a 4 1/2 hour drive out to a somewhat rural Ish Camp area, I have a portable tire, inflator, bad idea to wait until we are back in a few days?

Question for tech people regarding replacing Sasktel router

I purchased a home internet security/firewall device called a Firewalla. It can run in bridge mode where you put it between your sasktel router and your devices, and it works fine this way.

But it is also supposed to be able to work as a router itself, and be able to completely replace the Sasktel router. I can’t get this to work.

I’ve got it configured in router mode, and have the Sasktel ONT connected to it correctly, and then the switch to all my devices after that, but it doesn’t work.

I don’t need the Wi-Fi functions of the Sasktel router, because I have two MESH access points wired in elsewhere in my house which work way better. The router wifi has always been turned off. The access points come off the switch like everything else.

I also don’t need to worry about my home phone being affected, it comes directly off the ONT.

It seems like maybe the ONT is not able to assign an IP to the firewalla unit, because it it locked to the Sasktel router MAC?

Anybody with technical knowledge, does this sound right?

Factory reset my purple, now missing things it previously saw/showed

So I got my first firewalla (a purple) last week and set it up. Router mode was not working, so I set it up into bridge mode where the device was placed after my ISP router.

It seemed to work fine, and it recognized all the devices on my network, and when I looked at the overall list of devices, it would also show those tiny little down red arrow and up blue arrow showing the traffic, listed under each device. It showed this even if the traffic was zero.

Then I decided I would try setting it up in router mode again to see if I could get that to work, and take my ISP rotor out of the equation. I could not, and I ended up having to factory reset the device and set it up in bridge mode again.

But this time I can no longer see those active little arrows under my list of devices, and it is no longer recognizing all the devices. Specifically, and no longer recognizes the two access points in my home.

Everything else is recognized, and Internet and Wi-Fi are all working properly, I just don’t know why those differences exist now compared to the first time I set it up in bridge mode.

Where do you pick up DHL packages?

I have a tracking number for a package which says an attempt was made for delivery but nobody was home and a card was left (none of those things happened, which I verified from my front door video camera), and then it’s now at the pick up point.

But it doesn’t say where the pick up point is. Google doesn’t seem to be very helpful for me here, does anybody know where you pick up packages from DHL?
