Getting signal to external building- help?
Hi all,
We are looking for suggestions on the best way to get a WiFi signal to our external workshop (about 60m away from house). The workshop is clad fully in steel, with no windows, so there is no mobile voice or data signal in there at all.
We successfully connected an additional router as an access point to our provider's router inside and this tested fine. However, when trying to connect in the workshop, it says 'failed connection' on my phone's WiFi screen.
We did this by running an ethernet cable underground, but as it is running through the same pipe as the electricity cable, I believe the interference is too strong. We will test this tomorrow by running an extension from the house and turning off the power/ switch for the workshop.
If this fails, how would you propose we work with a wireless outdoor router? We are going to need security cameras too for the workshop, so perhaps can set this up together? In my head, the below will work ( please correct me though) :
Install an outdoor access point (1) to our roof, so no electrical interference.
Install another outdoor access point(2) to the outside of the workshop and run a cable from this inside to the original additional router. ( how do I get 1 to send a signal to 2? )
Cameras, etc. Will use the external access point.
Sorry if any terminology is incorrect, I hope this makes sense!
