Mold prevention in this humidity?

We just moved here and expected socal to be dry but alas, my dehumidifier is working non-stop and my indoor humidity is 50-70 depending on time of day. Today I noticed mold/mildew starting to grow on my bathroom ceiling. What do others do to combat the humidity??

I have a dehumidifier in my living room, but our bathroom has just a small window (no outlet for a dehumidifier or fan). I open it and the door after showering, but have been leaving the bathroom window open overnight to help cool the bedroom and the nighttime humidity has been…a lot.

Will it always be like this here? What else can I do besides attempt to dehumidify all of north county?

Please don’t tell me to run the AC 24/7, we simply cannot afford that with electric prices here lol

New Whirlpool fridge won’t cool enough?

I bought this new Whirlpool refrigerator and it refuses to cool below 40F. I tried moving it ridiculously far from the wall, pulling everything away from fridge walls and other items, keeping it pretty empty, but no matter what it’ll hover at 41-43 in the middle and warmer on the top, doors, or if it’s opened more than once/you put anything room temp in it.

The worst part is this is the second one. Costco already sent a replacement because the first one I ordered would hardly go below 45-50. I also apparently dislike the double door freezer because it feels like there’s no space.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or do I need a different fridge? (and if so, what are the recommendations? We need something counter-depth and ideally on the smaller side)

Please help, I’ve had to throw out so much food and every article/review/thread/recommendation suggests something different

Refinishing oak dining table?

Just picked up this dining table and want to refinish it but looking for tips?

The picture is making it look pretty good, but the existing finish has worn in a bunch of places and there are paint stains from previous owners.

I want to sand it down and get it to a more natural color. I previously refinished an oak table with a water-based poly coating but got annoyed with how much it showed scratches, so I’m wondering if there’s anything that will be a little more forgiving to daily use?

I also do not have a garage, and plan to do this work under a large covered patio. It gets pretty humid at night but dries and warms up during the day so am hoping to be able to let the coating cure outside?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Rental cabinets looking sad

I just moved into a rental and the wood veneer on the cabinets is rubbing off? It’s not peeling (which is the main thing that has come up when I’ve tried to look it up), and flakes/sections of paint have come off onto my hand a couple times when I’ve touched them.

Is there a way to touch these up or seal them so the wood pattern stops coming off?

Some of the bottom cabinets also got painted white at some point, but the paint is scraping off in places and I’d love tips for that too!

Queer or queer-friendly hair salon/stylists?

Just moved here and am desperately in need of a haircut, so I’m looking for a queer and gender-affirming stylist in the area!

Would love someone who is familiar with different hair textures (I have thick, mixed race, wavy hair).

I currently have a shag and like razor cuts, but am willing to branch out and drive a little farther if needed! Thanks!

New whirlpool fridge won’t stay below 45F

Got a new four door Whirlpool fridge from Costco. The freezer seems to be working fine and staying below 0 but the fridge will not stay cool enough, and food and drinks were taking out of it are noticeably not cold sometimes.

Sometimes overnight it’ll get down to 40 when I open it in the morning, but throughout the day (and god forbid if we try to open the fridge to take food out more than once) it’ll hang out between 43-48, and when I’ve moved my thermometer to the top shelf or doors it’s often around or over 50.

I’ve tried every temperature setting on the fridge (36-43 are options). We’ve tried moving it ridiculously far off the wall, rearranging contents, taking things out, etc. The fridge is less than a month old and I have no idea what else to try. I don’t want to get it replaced if there’s an easy fix since that feels wasteful, but not being able to reliably store food is stressful and expensive.

Did my daybed frame mold?

Built this bed frame (with a ton of help) and realized we didn’t put enough ventilation under it so the unfinished bottom had some mold. I wiped it down with vinegar and painted it with a mold-killing paint, but now I’m worried about all these black areas in the grain of the oak edge pieces. Some of them follow/fill the indents of the open grain, but some of the em look like spots which makes me worry about mold.

Could this be dirt/tannins or is it more mold?

If it is mold, what can I do about it? I’m building legs to get some airflow under the bottom of it, but no clue what to do for the oak pieces
