Why are some fighters more prone to CTE and others don't show any signs at all, even after years of taking punishment

In defense of Edwin Valero

Before you start cursing me and my mother, I want to explain a few things first

People condemn Valero as a murderer/psychopath and that's partially true

What people don't understand is that Valero had severe TBI/CTE ( Brain Trauma )

In 2001, Valero was involved in a motorcycle accident, where he was not wearing a helmet, which severly fractured his skull. Anyone who knows what brain trauma is, also knows that after such a devastating brain injury, your brain is not gonna be the same ever again

Coupled that with a 27 fight career ( even though he never went the distance ), and also absolute gruelling sparring sessions, gym wars in a 2000s Venezuelan style, added up to this already deformed brain

And last but not least, Valero struggled with Alcohol and Cocaine use, further damaging his noggin'.

Then he killed his wife and hanged himself

I am in no means saying that his actions were justified or excusable, but I'm tired of people referring to him as a cold blooded criminal.

He was obviously insane, suffering from severe CTE and should've been admitted to a psychiatric hospital

( my post was deleted several times so I had to post it here )

Unpopular opinion: Snatch (2000) is Jason Statham and Stephen Graham's best performance

The most realistic part of Hajime no Ippo is the locker room before the fight

Anyone who's fought before, either profesionally or amateur understands that this is the most realistic part of Hajime no Ippo

The pre fight nerves, some fighters requesting to be slapped or hyped up, others being scared shitless, others wanting to constatly go to the bathroom, the light headed feeling from the adrenaline and the fear

People who went through this understand what it's all about, the locker room and the waiting before you get called on to the ring to slug it out and put your brain health and in some cases even your life at risk

The pre fight nerves are actually scarier than the fight itself, and if you ask any pro/amateur fighter they will most likely agree

Also I forgot to mention that in amateur tournaments, unless you're a junior ( 12 years old or something ) you most likely have to wait at least 5-6 hours before you enter the ring, which is also mentally and physically draining

Waking Life (2001) directed by Richard Linklater, is an animated masterpiece

A film that tackles existential crisis, metaphysics, free will, social philosophy and the meaning of life all in a suburban-cultural esque type of artstyle and writing.
