Anyone know Huang Chung’s debut album? Two Genesis connections

Slightly off-topic, but I think some Genesis fans will be interested. Before changing their name to Wang Chung, Huang Chung released their eponymous debut album in 1982. There are two Genesis connections: it was produced by Rhett Davies (3rd pic), who’d helped engineer Selling England; and singer Jack Hues later team up with Tony Banks for Strictly Inc.

Anyone else know this album? It’s a hidden gem.

Does anyone still listen to Jon & Vangelis?

I thought Short Stories was a very interesting album - spontaneous, original, meaningful lyrics, great interplay between synths and Jon’s beautiful voice. The Friends of Mr Cairo also had some great songs.

The iconic “Bond. James Bond” phrase was originally a mirrored response

Trench, Sylvia Trench was such a stylish vamp! You’ve got to admire her chutzpah in turning up uninvited at Bond’s flat, getting let in, changing into his shirt, and practicing golf across his floor.

Seen today in an art shop window, Crete (Greece)

Beautiful, inspired art, created digitally by a human, not AI. Art shop in the old town of Chania, island of Crete, run by two brothers - the artist is one of them. Apologies for the window glare.

Just heard Sabotage for the 1st time — it’s fantastic! Ozzy’s voice is incredible

Completely wild album: crushing riffs, chamber choirs, that abrupt transition from Hole in the Sky to Don’t Start (Too Late)… and Ozzy is absolutely on fire. His voice is incredible.

Snagged the images online - the second and third look amazing, I hope they’re not AI-generated (apologies if so).

Some unusual covers of The Kick Inside - which is your favourite?

These are all officially released album covers - you can see them on Discogs. Quite some diversity in artwork by country and over time. One is a cassette, but all others are vinyl albums.

I’m sure many of us saw the Beatles live in their early days at the Cavern or Star-Club. What were they like and why are we still talking about them? (Wrong answers only)

J.J. Thomson won the Nobel Prize in physics in 1906 showing that the electron is a particle. Ironically, his son, G.P. Thomson, won the Nobel Prize in physics in 1937 showing that it is not (or rather that the electron can also behave as a wave).

Which live triple album is better: Yessongs or Welcome Back My Friends…?

**Yessongs** has the complete live version of *Close To The Edge* (the album) plus *Roundabout*, *Starship Trouper*, and other amazing songs. It’s perfect apart from famously dodgy production. ELP’s **Welcome Back** is a treat too - thrilling, wild, spectacular. It has the whole of *Tarkus* and *Karn Evil*, and lots of bombastic pomp. So which one are you choosing?

If you had to recommend just ONE James Bond novel to a fan who’d only seen the movies, which would you pick and why?

What are your favorite Bond movie quotes? Here’s one of mine: “But Sir, Blofeld’s something of a must for me.”

Which guitarist added most value to Genesis?

All have made a significant contribution to studio and/or live work. But, in your opinion, who’s added the most?

For me, it will always be Steve Hackett. Probably under-appreciated by some in the band, but - like Phil on drums - Steve’s addition catapulted forward Genesis’s entire capability and sound. His contribution was a game-changer.

To fans of prog rock group Spirit, I have an announcement

Don’t say “It’s not really Spirit”, it is. This is Randy and Ed going mental down Fish Fry Road with screaming potatoes, Orwellian themes, chocolate eclairs, and some really great songs… plus it’s got the gorgeous My Friend.
