what would you consider “good” practical accuracy for an amateur shooter using iron sights only?

I really enjoy shooting with iron sights. With a CZ 457 in .22LR, what would you consider “good” practical accuracy for an amateur shooter using iron sights only?

For example:

  • At 50 yards, what group size is considered decent?
  • At 100 yards, what size target should a good hobby shooter be able to hit consistently?
  • Is hitting steel at 150 or even 200 yards with iron sights considered impressive with a CZ 457?

Just curious what experienced shooters consider a solid skill level for non-competitive iron sight shooting. thanks

Best Budget Scope for a CZ 457?

Hi guys,

I just bought a CZ 457 and I’m looking for a decent budget scope.

Mostly for target shooting around 50–100 yards. Don’t want to spend too much, just something with good value for the money.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

which 9 mm thanks

In NYC, for home defense during a life-threatening break-in, what 9mm ammo would you recommend that balances:
good stopping power
lower overpenetration risk
and the lowest possible legal risk after a defensive shooting?
Not looking for anything “aggressive” — mainly for protecting family inside an apartment/home.
What do NYC or nygun owners usually choose?

皮套 for cz 75 sp01

I just bought my first handgun, a CZ 75 SP-01. For now I don’t plan to install a red dot, and I probably won’t add a weapon light either. I really like the traditional/classic setup.

Could you guys recommend a good holster? If possible, I’d prefer one with some kind of retention/safety feature, because I’m always worried the gun might fall out.

I found one online that I liked, but it was almost $200 after tax, which feels way too expensive. At the same time, the $20 ones don’t seem trustworthy either.

Also, would a shoulder holster be a better option for a full-size pistol like the CZ 75 SP-01? I probably won’t carry it every day.

Thanks!

Last week I bought my first firearm, a CZ 457 Lux with iron sights, and I’ve been having a great time with it. As a beginner, I honestly feel that a small-caliber rifle is very suitable and enjoyable to learn on, even though some older hunters might think it’s too weak.

I’m also really interested in shotguns. I’d like to try clay shooting and waterfowl hunting, but I’ve never actually done either before. So there’s also a possibility that after trying clay shooting once, I might rarely go again.

At the same time, I’d also love to try deer hunting someday, maybe with something like a Tikka T3x. But around NYC, there seem to be very limited places where I could realistically practice with a rifle like that.

Right now I’m torn between buying a Mossberg 500 Combo or spending over a thousand dollars on a semi-auto shotgun.

Honestly, there also seem to be fewer places to shoot shotguns in general.

One thing I’m also wondering about: if I show up at a clay range with a Mossberg 500 pump shotgun, will people laugh at me? On YouTube, it seems like almost everyone is using semi-autos.

Have you ever heard of people using the short barrel from a Mossberg 500 Combo for deer hunting? Is that considered uncommon?

I went on a hunting trip once, and almost everyone there was using .308 or .223 rifles.Could any experienced shooters or hunters give me some advice? Thanks a lot.

I’m looking to buy my first pump shotgun. I’m a beginner with limited experience and not very strong.

I’m thinking about getting a Mossberg 500 Field Combo (20 gauge, 24”/26” barrels).

Is this a good option for a first shotgun?
Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Between the Walther PDP Compact and the HK VP9SK, VP9A1 K

which one is better for everyday concealed carry (EDC)?

How do they compare in terms of build quality, recoil control, and overall shooting performance?

Which one would you recommend as the better all-around option?

I already have a full-size pistol, and now I’m looking for something for everyday carry (EDC).

The p365 L is great, but honestly it feels likeeveryone is using it.

I’m wondering if there are other options in the same category that are just as good .

What do you guys think about the Walther PDP Compact for EDC? Is it too big, or still reasonable to carry?

Any other recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

For home defense, is it more practical to use a weapon-mounted light (like a TLR-1 HL) or rely on a handheld flashlight?

I’m currently running a CZ 75 SP-01 mainly for range use, but I’m thinking about a home defense setup. I’ve seen people recommend both options:

  • Weapon light: faster target engagement, always aligned with the gun
  • Handheld light: safer for identifying targets without pointing a firearm

For those with real experience or training, which do you find more practical in a home setting—and do you recommend running both?

Would appreciate any advice, especially from people who have actually trained with low-light scenarios.

What are the must-have upgrades or gear in your opinion?

Just picked up a CZ 75 SP-01. I already have a holster and mags and mag loader, cleaning kit.

What other accessories would you recommend for a beginner mainly using it at the range?

Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I just picked up a CZ 75 SP-01 today and I’m really excited about it. I mainly plan to use it for range shooting, not daily carry.

I’m looking for a good holster recommendation—something comfortable and reliable, mostly for range use (OWB or range-style setup preferred).

Also, since I won’t be carrying it much outside, I’m wondering:
Is it necessary to use a retention lanyard or any kind of anti-drop setup? Or is that overkill for range shooting? Appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thanks!
