As toxic as Livia was, she was genuinely happy when AJ visited her

I am finally rewatching this masterpiece after 5 years and I noticed that despite being a malignant cunt and negative and toxic in almost every scene she's in, AJ's visit when he got suspended in episode 7 genuinely made her happy with no ulterior motives, she was eager to start playing scrabble with him. I thought that was cute considering she's a pain in the ass in 99% of the scenes she's in. I said my piece.

Super Mario mainline games ranked for how many times I played them

My entire Super Mario mainline games experience history ahead (LONG YAPPING)

My very first Mario platformer was NSMB for DS, which was my main console as a kid. I had several Mario games, but only this as main platformer (never had 64DS), and I loved it so much and it's just so quick that I just kept replaying it once in a while (as I did with Partners in Time). No way to tell how many times I actually played it

I also had a Wii with Galaxy and Galaxy 2 (I got 2 first for some reason I couldn't tell), and I played them both even if as a kid they were quite difficult for me, I never truly 100% them back then (even if I surely got close enough to 120 stars in 2 since I vividly remember getting to the second to last red and blue bricks galaxy). I also had NSMBW which I definitely 100% at least twice, once as a kid and again a few years later

Around the time of quarantine I downloaded a few emulators on my PC and among many things I replayed Galaxy 1 and 2 on Dolphin (and actually 100% them this time, fake 100% for 1 though), and I also finally played NSMB 2 and 3D Land on Citra even if I never did true 100% for either back then

But it wasn't until I actually got a job and some money that I decided to get my own 3DS (which I eventually modded) and a Switch, which meant I was finally able to play every single game on console, which I prefer over PC and emulators if possible for the authenticity. So I got all the available Mario games on Switch and played them once each. My order was: 3D World, Odyssey, Bowser's Fury, NSMB U, Luigi U, 64, Sunshine, and a few months later Wonder when it came out (of course 100% for all of them).

Around the same time I modded the 3DS when they closed down the eshop, and finally got to play the original NES and SNES versions of the great classics of the 80s and early 90s. I went in the order: SMB, SMB2 Japan, SMB3, World, SMW2 Yoshi's Island (GBA version), Land, Land 2 golden coins, and I also tried the DS version of 64 even if I never completed it. I also replayed the actual 3DS games, NSMB2 and 3D Land.

So yeah at this point I had already played all the mainline Mario games at least once and my spree went quiet. (Not counting Mario makers and Run even if I'll probably try it out at some point, already installed)

So yeah, at this point ironically the very first games I played on DS and Wii were also the most distant to me, since I had played them before the rest of the series. So the announcement of the Galaxy 1+2 remaster (btw Galaxy games are my all time favorite) was such a wonderful news and excuse to replay them on the Switch. I found them way easier on Switch than they were on Wii or worse, on emulator (I used a PS4 controller and it was awful). Again, fake 100% for 1 and true for 2.

At some point I started occasionally hosting gaming nights with some friends on my switch and modded Wii, and I replayed some multiplayer games with them including 3D World and NSMB U. Then when the release of the Galaxy movie was close I decided to finally do the true 100% for Galaxy, aka Super Luigi Galaxy, followed my another Galaxy 2 replay because doing 1 without 2 just doesn't feel right. This got me into a 3D Mario spree and I replayed Sunshine (which I adore btw) and then the massive Odyssey, both 100% again. And yeah, my Odyssey replay was my most recent Mario playthrough.

The most ironic part of all of this is that despite being the game I played the most times, NSMB is also the game I haven't touched for the longest time, unironically might be a decade minimum, and despite that I already know it by heart better than ones I played more recently. But I should totally replay it now that I think about it, Bowser Jr being the main villain and the introduction of Dry Bowser are important highlights for me as a big fan of the Royal Koopas family.

So yeah that was my Super Mario mainline game history experience, if anyone likes to shares theirs I'll gladly read it.

And what about you, what's the Mario game you played an unhealthy amount of times?

Questions and doubts from someone who owns a Switch 1 and is considering transferring to Switch 2

So, I have been heavily considering the purchase of a Switch 2 lately. Even if right now there are no particular exclusive games that spark my interest, I know for a fact that there will be, as I've been a Pokémon fan since I have memory and even if I didn't enjoy the switch era compared to the previous ones, I'll always keep up with the series (and Winds/Waves look promising too). And of course, 3D Mario, even if not this year it will eventually come. 3D Mario and gen 10 (and most definitely 11) of Pokémon are already enough for me, "system sellers" if you will.

The main reason I think about getting it before the release of those games is because even if I don't do it now, I will eventually, and we all know about the price increases coming in september. And regardless, even if I'll initially only have a single Switch game or two (definitely Mario Kart World and maybe Pokopia), I still have a lot of Switch 1 games, some of which got a free S2 update, so I will still take advantage of the better visuals. So yeah I might as well get it now, play Switch 1 games with better visuals rather than getting it one year from now at a higher price (and who's to say there won't be further price increases?)

So, speaking of Switch 1 and its games: is there any good reason why I should keep a switch 1 if I have a switch 2 and I transfer all the data and savefiles to it? Are there any games that work better in 1? Because from what I've read around, the only game that interests me that could cause issues is Warioware Move It due to the joycon 1 having a special sensor that is used in some microgames. But I also know that you can use switch 1 joycons on switch 2 to solve this issue (hopefully 3rd party ones work, as I'd have to sell the real ones along with the switch, kinda hard to sell it without joycons considering how much they cost). So, aside from this, is there any reason you'd keep the older console? I don't think so, which is why I'll most definitely sell it after the transfer (it was already used when I got it anyway and I don't really have particular sentimental value for it). I also know about a booster function for handheld, but tbh I mostly use my switch docked, very rarely as a handheld.

Now, moving to the actual Switch 2, is it safe to buy from Amazon? I would be taking a video proof of the unpacking because I've read about packages of rice delivered in S2 boxes, but I haven't read about such cases in Europe. Anyway I still feel safer having it delivered at home than bringing it by myself from a store.

And what else should I get along with it? I know that many suggest a screen protector (and maybe a cover), I mostly play it docked but sometimes I probably will plau handheld so it can definitely be useful to protect the screen and the console in general. As for SD cards, will 512 be enough? I don't get too many games so it's probably enough. I know it has to be express btw. Anyway, I mostly play physical so it's not really an issue at the moment, I can put it off for later

The wheels for Mario Kart World are cute but I don't really care enough for them to spend the extra money, the only MK I enjoyed using the Wheel and motion controls was MK Wii, on MK8 I never really used them because the joycon is too small

So... For a person who's coming from the Switch 1 and intends to sell it after getting the Switch 2, what is the ultimate set up? What preparations did you guys do and get and what did you NOT do/get and later realized it would have been better/smart? Or easy to forgot precautions? If there's an ultimate guide I'll gladly read it

Yoshida having his animated debut with today's teaser made me realize and question something....

How the fuck did this happen? How did Gayshida get 10k votes more than Asa in the popularity poll? I can see Beam due to being in the anime and being prominent in the movie, but Asa and Yoshida are both manga only characters and Asa is (was) the part 2 deuteragonist and has a huge fandom of Asa propics after her, Yoshida is a very minor part 1 character and in part 2 he didn't really have a strong fandom, especially the further it advanced the more people hated him. Plus he's not even truly confirmed gay, it's more like a fandom assumption that he is and most of it is a joke I think, so idk if there are that many yaoi Yoshida fans

Is the Yaoi Yoshida fandom really that much stronger than the Asa propics twitter army, despite being in the minority? Or are Asa propics just louder/more terminally online that they seem the majority when they really aren't, kinda like Star Wars sequel fans on reddit?

My Warioware games and characters tierlists

I finally played the series up until Warioware Gold. I skipped the GCN port of the GBA game, Snapped and Game and Wario for reasons you can imagine, and I don't think I'll be playing the Switch games any time soon (until I find them at a good price I guess).

The first game, Mega Microgames, was just great. It hooked me to the series, I was initially seeing the series as something to do during dead moments at work, but I enjoyed it so much I ended up playing it in my free time too. The first game introduces the characters and the concept of fast microgames, and the way it did so, with the different categories and funny cutscenes, definitely hooked me to the series. I love button based microgames and I think they should be used more often

Twisted is my all time favorite. I immediately fell in love with the motion controls (I played it on phone emulator and it worked great). It's definitely the one I had the most fun with, so many fun microgames divided in categories depending on what type of motion you have to make. No matter how many new gimmicks they come up with, the gyroscope motion control will always be my favorite.

Touched was the first game that kinda felt inferior to the predecessors. It tries too hard to push the DS' touch screen ginmick that almost all the games are just a different variation of "draw that line", which makes them way more repetitive compared to the vary way they implemented buttons and gyroscope controls in the first games. But it's still enjoyable and there's still enough variety in microgames not to be bothered by it. I still don't get why Dribble & Splitz and Orbulon didn't get a stage here though, they only appear in the menu screen carrying new characters and item rewards.

Smooth Moves is definitely the one I was the most mixed about. I love Wii and motion controls, but I had a hard time figuring out what exactly I had to do in many microgames from Smooth Moves. They teach you a bunch of forms, but often what you actually have to do is slightly different from the actual form depending on the microgame. And sometimes some forms would work better than the ones they advise you to use. But on my way to 100%ing this game unlocking all the microgames, I figured out most of the microgames I couldn't beat, and now I pretty much mastered the game and I enjoyed the elephant mixes way more as a result. So yeah, while I was figuring it out I would have put it in a low tier, but after getting used to it I actually love it, top 3 minimum.

DIY and Showcased: these were definitely the most boring to me. Maybe I should point out that I don't care about the level maker mechanics, and I only really did the character stages and unlocked all their microgames, and well, there are simply too few compared to regular games. Only 4/5 characters with 18 microgames each is just too few. I guess those who play the game for its main new gimmick enjoyed it, but for me they were the worst. Showcase is probably even more disappointing because you're on the Wii but all the games were made with the DS in mind, so all the games use the remote pointer "form" and nothing else. So you're on the TV playing microgames that were clearly meant for DS. Such a downgrade after Smooth moves. So yeah these were the worst for me

And finally, Gold. This game is so great. The fully dubbed cutscenes made me love the characters much more, even Young Cricket and Master Mantis who were pretty meh in their Wii introduction got way more funny and likable here. But of course, the main reason this game is so great is that it mixes up the main gimmicks of the first 3 games, with so many returning games from past entries (and a few new ones here and there). This is simply a great idea, it makes the game so varied, instead of focusing too much on a single gimmick which made Touched repetitive, here you have all the control styles mixed up. So great. So yeah, this game definitely deserves top tier status.

Speaking of the character tierlist, Gold also cemented 18 Volt's status as my absolute goat of the Warioware series. I always found funny the idea of him and 9 Volt being opposite yet being such close friends, but I have been waiting for a 18 volt solo stage for a long time, and this was epic. Loved the rap battle, and especially the post battle cutscene in which the girl finds out that this giant man is actually an elementary school kid. Just a kid, and yet he roasted an older girl at a rap battle. He's the goat.

I definitely enjoyed this series and its character way more than I expected

Was this poll a massive psyop to hype up anime onlies?

I can almost agree if you tell me that Katana arc is the worst arc, but the introduction being considered the worst is honestly bullshit. It sets up Denji, Makima and the entire series, then we get to know Aki and his sad story that motivates him, then Power who initially uses Dennis in the bat devil mini arc, then the trio starts living together, then the eternal devil miniarc which is honestly the best part of the introduction, the chapters with them panicking inside the infinite hotel was so great to read. And the resolution, and finally the beer night at the bar.

So many great moments, I think this poll was trying too hard to convince anime onlies that "the best is yet to come, this was nothing", which resulted in downplaying the introduction arc despite being great tbh, I definitely prefer it over International Assassins which is too chaotic

PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series S/X and Steam... What version are y'all planning to get?

Personally, I'll have to go for PS5. First off, it's the only console I actually have (I do plan to get a S2 at some point but not for AOT 3, even less so a GAME KEY CARD), second of all, because I like getting trophies and I haven't gotten a platinum in a while.

How about y'all people who plan to get the game as soon as it drops?

Bowser Castle at the end of cup 3 and Rainbow Road at the end of cup 4, or both of them back to back at the end of the special trophy?

This is one of the most random things to ask about Mario Kart but whatever. Most games have Bowser Castle and Rainbow Road as the final bosses of the game, but in MK64 and World they put Bowser castle at the end of the penultimate cup (which used to always be the 3rd star cup before MK8), and by this definition Super Circuit technically does both thanks to its 4 Bowser Castles, two of which were placed in the aforementioned placements as per tradition (tbh this is also the game that started the tradition of having Bowser Castle + RR as the final challenges)

Last night I finished the anime

I still have lot to unpack, lot of confusion about the timeline of the events, especially regarding the twins (if there's a comprehensive timeline of events in order feel free to link it). What can I say, I really enjoyed watching it, finished in less than a month. Right now I'll focus on what I loved, then I'll talk about what I disliked (mostly everything about Johan)

Tenma is a goat, no questions, he managed to stay true to himself until the end, I especially loved him in the first episodes

Grimmer is another undisputed goat, I probably prefer him over Tenma. Loved that he showed up during the final showdown, his death scene was great, my fav of the series

Roberto is definitely my favorite villain, I love that he constantly has a smile on his face while doing the most heinous shit ever, I love how manipulative and a good shooter he is, his voice too is kinda funny. Whenever he appeared on screen or was hinted to appear, I laughed knowing the scene would be good and probably funny.

Eva Heinemann, well, she's probably the character I expected to "forgive" the least during the first half of the series. She was unbearable, always using men and then trashing them, what she did to that gardener was unforgivable. But I can't help but start to like her in the late stage of the series when she grows some self awareness and actually improves herself

Lunge, not much to say about him, I enjoyed watching him and seeing him realize that Tenma was in fact telling the truth was satisfying. The final Lunge vs Roberto showdown felt like the true final battle, the two biggest forces of each side clashing each other

Nina, I enjoyed her at first, but at some point her story became monotonous (flashbacks aside), a constant going back and forth from point A to point B and viceversa, following Tenma who then leaves her while she sleeps, a constant back and forth that got boring pretty fast. But other than that I enjoyed Nina, way more than her brother

Now, moving on to the parts I disliked, one part I can't stand is how most people involved in the experiment just get away scot free and the narrative doesn't even try to punish them.

That Monaco former Kinderheim 511 leader? Look, he's helping kids now, who cares how many he ruined.

The Wolf guy whose organization tried to create a new Hitler? Tenma feels sad when he dies.

Franz Bonaparta/Klaus Poppe, the real mastermind behind it all? But look, he's crying and asking himself "what have I done!", clearly he deserves empathy at the end!

"Kid"? After being cartoonishly evil for most of the story they try to have you empathize with him (another Hitler wanna be that led the turkish fires terrorist attack btw) just before he gets killed as if I had to feel sorry about him.

Petr Chapek? Another sick fuck I enjoyed seeing get shot in the head, and at least with him I don't feel like the narrative is trying to make me feel bad for him (unless they expect me to forgive him because he got paranoid and gave Nina a lift).

And of course, Johan. I hate that fuck. I wanted nothing more than to see him get his comeuppance in the last two episodes. This is the guy who, even as a kid, killed every single person who tried to take care of him, every parent, foster parent, caretaker, good samaritan. He just kills everyone for the sake of doing it. But it's not just that he's a monster, it's that he is just capable of doing whatever the fuck he wants scot free, a deus ex machina. Everyone knows him, fears him, obeys him. Somehow he has eyes and ears everywhere, goons that follow every single order. He can just manipulate whoever he wants into killing himself, he commits mass murders, he shoots whoever he wants, but somehow he never leaves a trace. Nothing, to the point Lunge was convinced Tenma was making up everything. I just can't stand characters like this, deus ex machina that are somehow above every conceivable law and are able to do whatever they want with 0 issues. Everything goes exactly as he plans (except getting shot by that alcohol addict, I guess). Somehow he knows everything, like how tf did he know that Roberto as a kid (much older than him) liked chocolate as a kid? Did Grimmer tell him for some unknown reason? And after all that, not only does he survive a headshot AGAIN, not only does he get to escape scot free from his crimes AGAIN (most definitely going to kill his mother btw), but somehow I'm supposed to ignore all the atrocities he commited because of childhood trauma? Because "mom chose sis instead of me"? Like sure, that must have been terrible, but you can't expect me to just forgive everything he did because he suddenly remembered being chosen as "the experiment" by his mother as a child.

I'm pretty sure this doesn't even begin to cover how much I disliked Johan and how much I wanted Tenma to put a bullet through his head. Like, if there was one thing I was 100% sure about watching this series it's that I knew Johan would get his comeuppance, but nope, apparently he wasn't a monster after all, even if 99% of his actions are gratuitious unnecessary evil acts, I guess it was fault of his mother and the book so we can't blame him for how he turned out. I guess there was no monster at all.

But yeah, aside from heavily disliking everything about Johan, especially after the internet spent years convincing me that he is the best anime villain of all time, aside from this I really enjoyed the anime and had a great time with the other characters I loved and the story, loved how the final arc truly felt like a final showdown, the atmosphere and all was top notch. I definitely enjoyed the experience

The most stupid common criticism to this game

Sunshine is definitely the most controversial 3D game in the series, either you love it or you hate it. I'm definitely among the lovers, I enjoyed it even more on replay. But sure, I can see most of the reasons why it's often criticized: the blue coins first and foremost, not everyone seems to have fun with Fludd and the difficulty of some levels can be much sometimes (personally I love the Pachinko and never had a hard time with the lilly level)

But there's one point of criticism that I see quite often that I'll NEVER understand: "I don't like Sunshine because you are forced to complete 7/8 missions in each stage in order to unlock the final boss".

Like, excuse me? You are complaining because in order to reach the END of the game you have to do (MOST OF) the other levels BEFORE the end? Are you really complaining that you have to play the game in order to beat the game?

Maybe I'm a completionist and biased, but I wouldn't be bothered if the game required you to get every single shine except blue coins ones before meeting Bowser, (kinda like in Galaxy you can do everything before Bowser except purple coins) because, well, I like to experience and enjoy the full game.

What kind of speedrunner mentality is it to think that the only things that matters is reaching the end credits asap? Games aren't supposed to be chores

Going back to Super Circuit after playing the original was a completely different experience

A few months ago I played the entire Mario Kart series in somewhat random order, and Super Circuit was one of the last ones, and needless to say, getting introduced to those controls was atrocious after playing most other games in the series with simpler, easy controls.

However, I played the original SNES game after SS, and that was truly a painful experience, especially flower and star cups. The controls, the bullshit enemy only items, the scripted enemy AI in general, Bowser Castle 2 and 3... At some point I had to give up and started using savefiles just so I could at least complete each course once (I truly couldn't get to race 5 in some cups, the game is already hard as is, I didn't need 5 races per cup instead of 4).

Anyway, since I still had to unlock the classic circuits in SS (I considered getting gold in each 50 100 150 cup enough to consider it completed the first time), I got back to this game lately, and damn, even 150 cc feels so much easier than it did the first time. After getting used to the even less fair SNES controls, the GBA ones feel almost easy in comparison. I didn't even have issues with the Rainbow Road 150 cc this time. I successfully got 100+ coins in all 150 cc cups and unlocked all the classic circuits, I might just do the same with 50 and 100 at this point.

Btw, great track selection in this game, I feel like Lakeside Park deserves a remake asap, much more interesting than the Riverside Park they remake in MK8 DLC. Broken Pier too! They chose Boo Lake simply because they could take advantage of the lake theme to have an excuse and add some random water to the course, but Broken Pier has a much more interesting layout, I mean it's basically the harder version of Boo Lake in the game after all

I finally did it, completed Hidden House in the original LM, PAL version

A few months ago I posted here after the bitter realization that the game restarts itself after beating King Boo, which I didn't know and I was a bit mad about because I still had to catch 4/5 Boos and the painting number 9, which I assumed could be gotten after beating the main boss kinda like the Mario&Luigi games resume from your last savefile after beating the final boss. But at least instead of forcing to replay the exact same game, there's the harder version, the Hidden Mansion, which in the PAL version which is the one I have has the hardest possible challenge, mirroring the house entirely, the locked rooms get so much darker you can barely see, and of course the enemies themselves are way harder to beat and especially the enemy waves are much more intense.

These days I resumed my will to recomplete the game for real this time, getting all the 50 boos and 23 paintings, and I just did my last room, the Vincent Van Gogh inspired ghost, which acts as a pre final boss. So now I can finally proudly defeat King Boo again in harder mode, save my highest score and get the game hard reset once again, after which I will probably abandon it for a long time, since I still have the sequels to play, and if I really wanted to replay the game again I would probably try the 3DS remake this time even if I heard it doesn't match the creepy vibe of the original

I really really love Luigi's Mansion, I've always been intrigued by the premise, only recently got into it and the first game absolutely matched my expectations. Hopefully 2 and 3 won't disappoint

My casual friends loved NSMB U and are finding Wonder way more boring in comparison

Lately I've been hosting some multiplayer gaming nights with some friends since I'm the only one with a Switch. They're mostly casuals when it comes to Mario games, some of them about gaming in general, but they still enjoy simple things like, well, Mario games. Anyway, after completing 3D World we moved to 2D games for a change, and I suggested NSMB U first. It was very simple and followed a formula even they were familiar with (everyone my age had a DS with NSMB and Mario Kart when we were kids). Even them, with no real knowledge of the entirety of the Super Mario series, recognized that NSMB U looked basically the same as the same Mario games they played as kids (presumably the DS and Wii "New" games), but they still had a lot of fun with it and it's simplicity, looking for patterns to find all the star coins, using the apricorn and peachette bonus which are so much fun.

When we finished it I proposed to play Wonder because Luigi U is more fitting for a single player experience and because playing what is essentially the exact same game twice in a row would probably have been lame for them (I did it when I first played U deluxe but I'm more of a committed Mario fan so I wasn't bothered by it). And so far we completed a world and half and they are finding it way more boring and lame than U, which was surprising to me since it's more innovative. They found the excessive use of the ugly elephant bonus to be too much, and despite the vibrant and colorful artstyle, they find the act of completing levels itself way more boring, with most levels being boring until you take the wonder drug flower that gives you hallucinations, and even then after a few levels they got bored of it. We have been meeting for gaming night way less since we started Wonder too, but that's mostly unrelated to the quality of the game.

I could have sworn that NSMB U was considered the most boring game of the series since it's the most repetitive and at that point there was a lot of "New series" fatigue; and that Wonder was loved by everyone due to feeling so innovative. This whole thing made me realize that for "true" Mario fans that keep up with the whole series, the New fatigue was a real thing that tarnished the perception of the latest games of the series, but for casual fans who don't really know about all this lore, when you take any given "New" game as a standalone one, they're actually still very enjoyable, and many people still prefer the more classical formula of Mario rather than the drug trip that Wonder is (which I enjoyed, especially the latest worlds and the last final level, but I gotta admit that I kinda forgot most of my first playthrough, probably because I speedrun it in a week)

Just an observation, probably biased and not entirely correct since I'm taking a very small sample of people to come to such a conclusion, and we aren't even halfway through the game, but after this experience I genuinely don't know if I prefer Wonder or NSMB U. I sure know I prefer Luigi U due to its speedrun element that actually tries to do something different AND good (unlike that lame coin gimmick in NSMB2). Is Wonder generally loved or is it more of a mixed bag in your circles? Because lately I've been seeing way more criticism towards it than I did when it first came out, mostly talking about the repetitive level design entirely based around getting wonder flowers, and well the simplicity in general but that's most modern 2D Marios

Fire worlds, stages and levels in Super Mario games

Fire has always been my favorite element/fictional power as a kid, and it still is. As a consequence, fire based stages always end up being my favorite or among my favorite in each game, the fact that they're usually the last world hence the hardest part just makes them all the more appealing to me.

- World 8 of SMB 3 has mostly the overworld that is fire based, which wasn't even in the OG game, only in the Advance remake, but it's visually cool nonetheless.

- However, the very first big, entirely fire based stage chronologically, and inevitably the first fire based 3D platforming stage in history, was the painting from SM64. And what can I even say about this stage? Wonderful. It's one of the few 64 stages where every single star is fun to get, it does a good job at mixing the element with platforming challenges, and surfing on the lava with a koopa shell is so cool. And we got an actual whole mini stage inside the volcano as well, with 2 stars in it. Yeah they totally cooked with this stage.

- Sure, having such a good fire stage as a precedessor didn't do it any favors, but the Sunshine fire stage is definitely undercooked and one of the most boring. It's not even that bad, but when you consider how the main 7 stages of the game are super detailed and fun to explore, and then as a final pre boss stage you get a hallway, yeah it definitely pales in comparison, especially if you compare it with its direct precedessor. But I wouldn't say it's entirely bad, just inferior compared to the rest of the game and the previous game's fire stage, I still think navigating the boat on the lava using Fludd is fun. Oh, another small issue is probably graphical, I just think the lava textures don't look that good, they're too yellow. So yeah, subpar fire level overall, but partially due to being overshadow by other S tier stages within its game

- World 8 of NSMB (the OG, DS one). My very first Super Mario game so I might be nostalgia biased here, but this world is great. Plus, we can divide it in two, the theme of the first half is more darkness, the second's is definitely fire/lava and damn, what a line up of levels. After defeating Dry Bowser in the castle in his very first ever appearance, we unlock the second half of the world, and we find one banger after the other. The first stage takes place in a lava cave, presumably inside a volcano, and it has great platforming, the second is an actual volcano with rising lava you need to escape from whose format becomes a staple of the "New" series, then we have a third level where we beat all the hammer bros variants possible of all colors, and finally, a level where we actually need to avoid lava eruption upon us. What a great touch before the final tower and fortress. NSMB World 8 is definitely a 10/10 2D fire world, at least the second half.

- In Galaxy we have the amazing Melty Molten Galaxy, which basically acts as an unofficial final galaxy (as in the hardest challenge), located at the very end of the last unlockable dome, with the highest superstar requirement to unlock. And it does a great job at it, even more than the 64 one I would say (except for the inside volcano section, the one in Galaxy is literally just a room, that was better in 64). All the 3 main levels offer something different, they're all super fun and present you with a slightly harder challenge than the rest of the game, lots of cool fire/lava platforming to do. It's probably one of my favorite ever, and we even have a boss that is basically the game's first boss but in harder, fiery version. And the comet? So hard, which makes it great imho, a Galaxy like this this late in the game is supposed to be challenging. Yeah this fire galaxy is peak, probably my favorite from the game. Absolutely top tier fire stage here

- World 8 from NSMB Wii, while definitely very similar to its DS counterpart it still has a few saving graces and interesting levels. But yeah this is where the NSMB series already starts feeling repetitive (not just with fire levels). Still, I like this world 8 much more than the ones from 2 and U, and the final fortress with giga Bowser definitely make up for the repetitiveness, which isn't necessarily all that bad if you're repeating something good, which is why in Wii it was still bearable, the problem was making another 2+1 DLC games with that same style in a very short period of time.

- Back to Galaxies, Galaxy 2 has a bit of a problem with the galaxies of my favorite themes (fire, and fire/ice). In this game they cooked the hell out of Shiverburn and Melty Monster galaxies, only to just give them A SINGLE level each instead of 2 or 3. Why?? Ok, I can see why, you were already directly repeating the themes you already used in the previous game, but still. If I had to take single levels, the first level of Melty Monster would definitely my favorite fire level from the Galaxy games. Come on, it has so mant great sections, like where you move with the bubble to avoid lava planets and hippos. Speaking of those hippos, as a lover of both hippos and lava I absolutely adored that enemy as a kid, it's probably my favorite Bowser minion to this day. Anyway, as I said, they cooked with that level, and then they stopped there. Only one. The other 2 levels are bowling challenges that they could have easily put pretty much anywhere else instead of wasting those precious lava level slots. So yeah, if as a single level I prefer the one from Galaxy 2, the best fire Galaxy as a whole is definitely Melty Molten from Galaxy 1. Same discourse can be applied to the fire/ice galaxies, in 1 it's super fleshed out over 3 levels + a comet, in Galaxy 2 it only gets one really good level and then the other 2 levels are wasted on silly forgettable challenges. So yeah, Galaxy 2 had a very good fire level, I just wish it had been the whole galaxy that way

- When it comes to 3D Land it's hard to talk about fire world, because yeah aesthetically it looks like one, but when you look at the actual levels, only the final 3 set in Bowser's castle are real lava levels, and Bowser Castle containing lava is kind of a given.

- NSMB 2, the one on 3DS. I'm gonna be honest, I had to actually look at a level list for this one because it's so forgettable I kinda forgot despite having played it twice across a few years (but it was still a few years ago). Aesthetically it's similar to the DS one, with less dark and more lava element, and at least 4 of the actual non castle levels are fire based so yeah, this world definitely passes the test. I should definitely replay this game, it's the one from the "New" series I remember the least despite the obvious prominent coins gimmick.

-NSMB U/Luigi U: even if the levels themselves are very few, at least we can give credit to the fact that having the final, fire world be the actual Peach's castle instead of the usual Bowser one is definitely a nice subversion. Love the dark remix of Peach's castle music they made for this world. And the levels themselves are actually quite fun, not as forgettable as you'd expect from a series dragged for this long. Plus Luigi U, despite being the 5th in a row, barely feels repetitive thanks to its unique speedrun based platforming. So yeah this is actually pretty good for being from the game it's from.

- As for 3D world, unlike it's predecessor on 3DS, the lava aesthetic of World-Castle isn't just for the overworld, and we find some very good lava based levels in it, including one with blue lava which I find fascinating. I know about blue fire being hotter, but I'm pretty sure blue lava is something they made up to look cool, and it worked.

- Finally, the last world from the latest game, Super Mario Bros Wonder. In here they kinda changed it up a little and instead of the usual generic lavic wasteland, they mixed the forest element, so it's basically a burning forest. That already made it cool, and the levels with the fresh, new Wonder style are also great, I mean I loved the ones from "New" but a change of gameplay style was looong overdue, and the lava levels work so well in here. Also I'm pretty sure the world is divided in 2 parts, even if I don't remember what they were called (I totally gotta replay it, I only did once at launch).

Honorable mention: the Luncheon Kingdom in Odyssey. While not a real fire/lava themed level, it mixes the volcano element with food/kitchen, and the result is one of the funniest (and largest tbh, I'm sure it's pretty huge) Kingdoms of the game. When I first saw that the "volcano" they were referring to in the game was, well, not lavic, I was a bit disappointed, but after playing it I can see that it was a nice change of fresh air not having the usual lava based macro level, it made the game feel less generic probably. So instead of an actual volcano with lava we got a volcano that spouts... Hot stew, and in the Bowser Kingdom instead of the usual volcanic landscape we got something that reminds of traditional Japanese temples, another subversion I adored in spite of the initial doubts.

So this was it, this was my breakdown/commentary/analysis of the fire/lava/volcano based Super Mario levels, world, and stages, I loved writing all this up even if nobody is gonna read it, but for those who may do, please say in the comments your favorite lava level/world and why, and the worst/most boring if you want. I really love talking about this kind of irrilevant stuff, even if most gamers probably just, well, play the game and move on, I love doing these types of analysis.

The next game I have to play from each series I've been playing in the past months/years

Here are some videogame series I've been playing in the past months/years. I don't play a full series back to back, I used to (that's how I did the GTA games) but now I prefer more variety rather than feeling forced to finish a series just because I have to when I'd rather have some change and variety.

- Mario & Luigi series, I always loved Partners in Time and Bowser's Inside Story as a kid, after modding my 3DS I decided to replay the full series back to back, and so far I completed the first 2 games, so technically I would have to replay the third which is my favorite but yeah the next "new" installment for me is Dream Team Bros which I'm looking forward to since it came out during Luigi Year so hopefully it's good

- Digimon Story Hacker's Memory has been in my list for 3 years but despite enjoying the first game and even completing the field guide (the "digidex"), I am still traumatized by the massive amount of useless dialogue over dialogue over dialogue that game has, and I presume Hacker's Memory which is a DLC in the same fashion isn't that different. But I'll definitely be playing it sometime, and then the new one, Time Stranger, which people talk highly about

- For Luigi's Mansion 2 I have nothing but good expectations, I absolutely adored the first game on GCN (played on Wii). But I still gotta complete the Hidden Mansion in the OG (PAL version which is wildly hard), I kinda put it on hold midway through since I was essentially repeating the same game back to back but I have been thinking about getting back to it lately

- Warioware Smooth Moves is probably the least serious game in my list, and it's probably gonna be harder to get into it because so far I've been using Warioware as something to do when I'm bored to kill time on the go on emulator, and Smooth Moves will require me actually playing it as a main hobby during my free time. Still, I really enjoyed the first 3 games so it's probably gonna be fun, especially the motion controls (loved Twisted for this very reason)

- as for Mystery Dungeon, it's hard to talk about it as series I've been playing recently, because as a kid I played them all except Gates to Infinity for some reason, it's the only one I skipped. So yeah I didn't exactly replay the whole series (I did the first two countless times), but I definitely gotta play Gates to Infinity at some point as it's the only one I missed and I love Unova and gen 5 so I'm probably gonna look past the lack of a full pokedex like the others (which has been the main reason I didn't play it at the time I guess). Technically I'm also missing the Wii Mystery Dungeon games but those are apparently so different and detached from the rest of the series they barely count. But maybe I'll try one out sometime

- finally the last Pokemon Ranger game. I played Ranger 2 as a kid countless times, but I only recently played the very first one (which I loved btw), so I'll either replay the 2 for continuity or go straight to the 3rd and last at some point

Anyway this was it. These are my backlogged games that are part of series I have been playing but have yet to complete. Which of these games or series do you like the most and which one would you play next if you were me?

Some observations and questions about retro tracks

I have recently played the entire series up until 8 Deluxe (not Tour) and I noticed a few things I want to discuss regarding retro tracks. I will be mostly talking about the games I played, I have yet to get a Switch 2 and play World and I don't think I'll ever play Tour

Anyway

Of course retro tracks are some of the best ideas they ever had for the series, but sometimes their choices in which tracks should be remade and how (and how many times) can be questionable

For example, why do they LOVE to remake the GBA Bowser castles (except the 4th for some reason), but refuse almost entirely to remake all the other beautiful ones? We miraculously got the 64 Castle in Wii, and then NOTHING for years. The GCN, Wii, the DS one which is GOATED? Nope. Never remade. The 3DS Bowser Castle which is probably my favorite wasnat least remade in Tour but tbh I don't really count Tour as a true Mario Kart since it's a cashgrab and I refuse to play it.

At least they recently remade the SNES third castle and it was great, unlike most GBA remakes on MK8, the SNES Bowser Castle 3 actually keeps the same layout while adding visual enhancements to the map, instead of what leads to my next point..

The GBA remakes on MK8. It's really hard to call them remakes, they only share the general theme of the GBA map but they are way too different. Boo Lagoon, Riverside Park, I think they should just add a "RMX" instead of pretending they are faithful remakes of those tracks like they did with the SNES ones, where yeah you add a bit of water here and there but the map doesn't feel completely different like the GBA ones. For the SNES Bowser Castle 3 as I already said they went the GBA route but it honestly came out very good and the layout is recognizable enough

Some other random things I noticed...

Mario Kart 8 with the new antigravity mechanic would have suited the DS rainbow road perfectly, since it already had antigravity before it existed as a mechanic. But I'm glad they didn't because it's one of the most boring RRs. And speaking of RRs, they love to remake GBA tracks yet the absolutely goated GBA rainbow road is yet to be remade, and also Broken Pier which I adore

Some tracks get remade way too many times, I understand the SNES Mario Circuit because it's the first iconic track, but then why don't they ever remake number 4? Is it to keep some kind of legendary "only playable in the very first game" status? I'd like that as an explanation. Choco Mountain also gets remade a lot, it even got remade back to back in the booster pack AND world, damn, people really love it (it was my favorite from DS as a kid tbh). The DK heights DS track also got remade a lot, and I don't really see the point of remaking a whole total of 4 DS tracks in Mario Kart 7 since it's kind of the direct handheld follow up, I understand more having 4 Wii tracks because they took advantage of the new mechanics they couldn't include in Wii (especially the Koopa track), but the DS remakes in 3DS are too similar and too many, I would have made more Double Dash maps. Those 3 never remade GCN tracks definitely deserve it, love the RR with occasional collectible stars (a bit too OP though if you're already first)

This is it for the moment but I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting something in which case I'll edit the post or add them in a comment if I can't, also this was written on the go so I hope I explained myself clearly enough but I probably threw too many thoughts on the table at once.

Do you agree? Do you have some "headcanon" explaination for these? Do YOU have your own observations regarding retro tracks and their patterns? Let's discuss

Are "Snapped" and "Do it yourself" skippable? [Warioware]

I've been playing Warioware and I loved it so far. The first GBA game was just great, it immediately hooked me, it's the perfect game to play during the less busy days at work when you have a break. Anyway, Twisted was definitely my favorite so far, loved the motion controls. Touched on the other hand was lame (of course playing on emulator doesn't help), since they wanted the game to be entirely based on DS mechanics, most of the games are just a different variation of "trace that line". The microphone games too are mostly the same, fortunately Drastic has a special button to emulate the microphone so I didn't look like an idiot in front of the others. Anyway yeah, the games of Touched were less funny and had less variety. I expect Smooth Moves to be great though, plus it will be the first game I'll be playing during non paid hours lol (no way I'm using mobile Dolphin, it must suck at emulating the Wii)

Anyway, getting to the main point, I already informed myself about the rest of the series, and I know that there are a couple of games that are kind of "different" from the rest:

- "Snapped" is a Dsiware game that uses the DSi camera, and from what I read on google it feels more like a techdemo than a real game. It honestly sounds more lame than fun, apparently all games are camera based? Idk, google AI overview says it's skippable, but I wanna hear an actual human opinion which is why I'm posting here

- "Do it yourself" on the other hand is more like Super Mario Maker, it's mostly focused on the creation of microgames rather than having an actual gameplay. So is it skippable? Is there a crumb of main story or is the DYO aspect the entire game?

So, are these considerable more like side entries, skippable for one who enjoyed the gameplay style of the first 3 games? Or is there anything worth checking out in them?

Btw I also skipped the GCN port of the first game because apparently it's mostly the same game with the same microgames and the only difference is multiplayer? Is that correct?

After a few months of putting off I finally got all the DLC post game mysterious and legendaries of Legends ZA and decided to renew Home to update my living dex by adding the only new depositable form, Eternal Flower Floette, and I also deposited my own OT Kalos born Furfrou trims without the horrible Go symbols while I was at it. Of course I also completed the actual in game dexes, in fact I did a little living dex within the game itself while I was waiting, and I was ready to immediately claim the shiny Volcanion, and I also recompleted the Home Pokédex with all the new available forms (megas and the new Floette), bringing the total to the currently available 1496 forms.

Winds and Waves, I'm waiting (and I'll try to get my hands on a Switch 2 too I guess)

We can cope all we want that "at least part 1 is brilliant on its own", fact is that this isn't some corporation that bought a decade old franchise and then compleltely shat on it like Disney did with Star Wars (and Marvel apparently, idk), this is the direct continuation from the original author himself that was supposedly already planned since the Reze arc, we can't just shrug it off as "at least it will never be truly canon, it's just corporate cash grab slop", it unfortunately is canon.

But at least in the new timeline Dennis gets to clap Power's blood devil ass everyday
