Went on a one week trip to the Vulkaneifel (Germany)

Hiked 76km and came back with about 50kg of volcanic rock and devonian corals. Someone tell me how to restrain myself 🫨 I'm just lucky I'm weak and couldn't carry more. I'm really excited to see how some of these are going to look after cleaning and cutting them.

Schaue gerade fern, warum gibt es das noch?

Ich bin gerade im Urlaub und immer noch zwei Stunden länger wach als die anderen. Mangels Rechner, wie zu Hause, schaue ich gerade fern und frage mich warum man dieses langsam sterbende Tier nicht einfach erlöst. Es ist durch die Bank Scheiße.

Edit: ich habe in den 90ern und frühen 2000ern auch viel im TV geschaut, was nicht zwangsläufig hochwertiger war aber die Alternativen waren damals noch etwas schmaler. Man konnte sich sein TV Programm nicht selbst machen. Jeder unter 45 müsste doch eigentlich auf die Idee kommen lieber auf YouTube oder Netflix usw sein eigenes Programm zu gestalten anstatt sich diesen Müll zu geben.

Trilobyte fossil?

Hi,

I'm in the Vulkaneifel in Germany right now, a region with a lot of volcanic activity in the past. Inl found this spherical rock in the side of a path in the woods and thought 'this looks like what they crack open on youtube all the time ' and smashed it against a boulder. To my surprise there actually was something inside but I'm not sure what exactly. It looks like some sort of trilobyte to me but what do you say?

Petrified wood or coincidence?

Found at Rhine river banks in Germany. Looks like it has a small knot or is that just a coincidence?

Edit: I looked at it with a magnifier and I'm pretty certain it is. Everything about its surface screams wood, except for it being a stone. How would I go from here identifying the exact type of tree?

I really enjoyed the SG1 Season 8 finale most of all, so far

I felt like this was the first finale that wasn't action packed and had a calmer vibe, still gripping but not a firework. It's nice to see them all get to actually rest instead of having to recover from life- and mind threatening events.

Four hours of rock- and fossil hounding paid off 😄

Edit: some research revealed this is probably from the last ice age, 40.000-100.000 years ago.

Spray sicher für Küche? Ausdünstungen?

Hi,

Mit diesem Spray sollen die Küchenfliesen im Hintergrund lackiert werden. Die Fliesen befinden sich an der Wand der Küchenzeile, auch über dem Herd/Backofen. Gibt es da Bedenken bezüglich der eventuell höheren Temperaturen und dadurch entstehende Ausdünstungen? Oder generell Bedenken bei der Verwendung in der Küche?

Edit: Konsens ist wohl ich soll es lassen. Also fahre ich Montag in den Baumarkt für Grundierung und Lack, danke 👍

Edit 2: Nach reiflicher Überlegung werde ich die Fliesen einfach komplett entfernen und neu machen lassen 😅 wird die beste Lösung sein.

Stargate in your language - what irks you?

Hi,

I watched Stargate in German when it aired and I'm rewatching it these days but in English. Aside from the fact that I have never heard of any German dub that was actually decent, it's usually acceptable at best, I really hate what they did with the pronounciation of Teal'c. The English pronounciation has something tribal, something noble, exotic maybe even and I can connect that to his heritage and his character. In German they narrowed it down to a sequence of noises. TEE-ULC. Here the coffee scene as example, you hear Carter say it.

Have you seen Stargate in more than one language and found something that annoyed you?
