Who is your favorite character in fiction when the topic is the deconstruction of his philosophy?

For me is the question (specially the O Neil version). His early character arc was about moving past the Ayn Rand objectivism his character was meant to be a mascot for a more introspective zen character who fully agrees there are multiple shades of grey in the world.

Something Something my version of the characters are more worthwhile to invest than yours.

Re-uploaded since this dumbass broke the third rule of the subreddit. Hope this doesn't fall into the spam category (if it does, I'll delete it myself).

One thing I noticed on Reddit is that a lot of people are overcomplicating how accessible Marvel and DC comics truly are.

I'm not trying to shit-talk anymore; it's just something I noticed.

I know the common answer for this type of stuff is to say "start with issue one of a current ongoing/limited series", but I feel that does a disservice to how unique Marvel and DC are compared to most different forms of media that span multiple years.

Both Marvel and DC have been around for decades by now, and their characters and universes have had so many stories, retcons, and additions to the lore that it has become impossible to say there is a single objective point where new readers can jump in and enjoy the stories. Still, I think that's a good thing. Sure, there are multiple convoluted moments in the big 2 where the amount of changes can be confusing to downright ridiculous (cough cough Hawkman). However, I still think when played right it's their biggest advantage (Kraven's Last Hunt would have never worked if it didn't have the years of stories of Kraven just constantly losing to Spider-Man to show why he went insane, and how much of a shock it is to the characters and the readers when he does the deed and beats Spider-Man).

Now, will Marvel and DC ever be more accessible than most Manga and Comics outside of their portfolio? Hell no, that ship has long sailed, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try. The beauty of those worlds is in exploring them at your own pace, whatever way you like; there isn't a strict line that you have to follow, but hundreds of stories that you can choose from, whether they are canon or not.

The question shouldn't be "Where should I start?" but more like "Where would I like to start".

*On a small note, if you still have questions about a character and their history, don't be afraid to ask for help. It's completely normal, and just because some random guy posted a rant saying there isn't a definitive answer should not prevent you from asking for help to enjoy these characters.

Firestorm from DC Comics.

Really great fun design for the era that was created that can be horrifying when it needs to be.

Qual é a vossa série favorita que ainda está em andamento?

Para mim é o Fury of Firestorm do Jeff Lemire e Rafael De Latorre. Ótimo ponto de introdução para pessoas que sabem quase nada sobre o personagem como também moderniza os personagens e acrescenta lore aos personagens (principalmente o Stein) bastante interessante.

[Comic Excerpt] Just finished reading #3 issue of Lemire's run on Firestorm, and immediately thought of this.

I really love the idea of Stein being DC's Oppenheimer, both in the sense of his ambition to create the ultimate weapon (the nuclear bomb for Oppie and Firestorm for Stein) and in their subsequent regret over the implications of their creations.

I'm really stoked to see where this story goes.

[AB] One thing that I love about (Spoilers) is in how it is faithful to prime version in a way I rarely see mentioned.

One thing I love about the Joker (until now) is how they adapted the core aspect that he really doesn't want his rivalry with Batman to ever end. It's such an important part of the character I don't see that I don't see talked enough.

Salazzle from Pokemon.

I feel I'm gonna regret this, but damnit it's a great design. The Pink really stands out with the rest of the colours and the posture gives the idea that this thing is no saint.

Who is a character that you would like to see interact with the New God's?

For me it's John Constantine. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember any of the New Gods really interact with someone who is at best an absolute POS and I feel John would bounce pretty well with the other gods.

Also, John as interact led with powers way above his weight class and I feel both the conman and powerful wizards versions of the character would work really well (but personally I would choose the more Vertigo oriented characterization).

Recently I found this video analyzing the Ghost Rider (moreso Johnny) and I feel some people here will find it interesting.

Just for the heads-up that the video is from Portuguese from Brazil and also, but outside of that I highly recommend it and the rest of this channel.

[AGA #2] With the recent issue, do you think it's possible that the Longbow Killer may be (spoilers)?

Floyd Lawton, AKA Deadshot.

Now, it may seem a bit superficial, considering what Green Arrow did in the issue, but there are a lot of things from just the trick-shot that point to Floyd.

Firstly, and most obviously, the already referenced trick shot. This is Floyd's M.O. in the mainline universe, and the fact that the GA did the same thing in this issue is pretty suspicious.

Secondly, we have a not-so-positive view of the wealthy. Lawton was born in a wealthy family, but he has shown to genuinely hate his family (especially his mom, whom he crippled after she got his son killed in Ostrander's run) and also not being fond of rich people (James Heller being another example). So, a version of Lawton that is more of an ideological killer instead of a pure mercenary with a death wish isn't that far-fetched.

(Before I finished, yes, I am aware Floyd said he was once a "card-carrying communist", but from what I've seen, he was being sarcastic rather than being honest, but they could change this in the absolute universe if they feel like it.

Do you agree with the theory, or do you think it's another character under the mask?

After an almost full first year at University, this is every comic book/manga/Graphic Novel I got.

It's kinda scary looking at it now, not gonna lie.

Also, pretend the V for Vendetta isn't turned downwards.

My biggest fear/concern with the upcoming Mr Miracle animated series is in how they will adapt The New Gods.

This is self-explanatory.

I haven't finished King's Mr Miracle yet. Still, I really liked what I read until I read Ram V's New Gods and started getting to know more and more about the characters and their stories. I quickly realized how big a Mischaracteration Orion, and specifically Lightray, got in that story.

Now, I don't want to say that the series is terrible because Tom King sucks and all that jazz. There are a lot of good things there, especially the parts with Scott and Barta. Still, I feel like if they keep the original interpretation of the New Gods, it will become a long-term problem, that being when Apokolips eventually becomes the big bad of a movie/series.

One of the biggest problems I have with Apokolips is that, most of the time right now, they completely ignore New Genesis and just Darkseid and his camp, which is just wrong in so many ways because the whole point of the Fourth World Saga is the conflict between Apokolips and New Genesis. You have to bring both and not just Darkseid.

And now this leads me back to the New Gods. Imagine if the DCU announces a New Gods series in the future, do you think the casual public will be excited about this when their first introduction to the characters is of them being assholes and just genuinely horrible people to hang around with? I don't think so.

Now, I trust Gunn to make the necessary adjustments to prevent these character assassinations. Still, Tom King is involved in this project, so I don't know how much he is willing to change from the base material (I feel like I will only have answers to this when Supergirl hits theaters).

Do you agree?

Which manga do you think it's better written?

For context, I recently got these two series today (I already read Choujin's first two volumes) and got curious, since I never read or consumed anything related to Hunter X Hunter before, so I'm basically going blind into the series.
