THE DARK CANNOT STOP ME FROM MAKING SOUP!
SOUP WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL!
You may have noticed I skipped a megathread for the final episode last week...that was not intentional, I was at work and forgot to manually set it up. Please feel free to burn me at the stake in the comments!
I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for making this subreddit what it is. When I first made it I wasn't sure how far it would go...then David of SellswordArts and JacquesZeWhipper contributed and I knew at that point we had something special here. I don't think any of that would've been possible without you, the users, showing up and supporting MinMaxedRPG through this subreddit. Thank you for making this subreddit the best it can be!
On top of that, back when we did the art contest, I promised a contest that EVERYONE would be able to find a way to contribute to, not just artists. I plan to release details of this contest alongside the release of MinMaxedRPG Season 2, the contest is 100% planned out already.
There is currently no date set for the season 2 release BUT once we recieve any information regarding it, I will make a post with said information within the subreddit!
Thanks again everyone!

This post is specifically to show you, our users, just exactly what you don't see here. I want there to be an unfiltered understanding of exactly what happens on r/awfuleverything that you DON'T see.
My goal with this post is to break the loop that the subreddit suffers like clockwork each year. I refuse to give up on the subreddit so my hope here is that examples of what we have removed and banned for will possibly stop future "attacks".
Each year we ban hundreds of users, possibly in the thousands. There is no ban quota for us, we don't ban because it "makes us happy". We do this in the interest of the subreddit and the users that browse here. If we allowed those specific users and those specific posts and comments to remain on the subreddit, we'd be removed from the platform entirely.
If you've been around here long enough, you'll know about our numerous pinned posts over the years in which we make attempts to remind users to "be respectful" on the subreddit. Here are some examples of why we make those posts. This is not meant to glorify these comments in any way, I just want to be transparent with what happens here.
These images have been collected over the years, and are barely even 1% of the total removals I'm referring to: https://postimg.cc/gallery/Kv7502G (images switched off imgur due to unavailability in the UK)
Assuming you took the time to look through that link, I hope there is a better understanding as to what happens here that you don't see and why we act the way we do regarding removals. For every "insert-phobic" comment that slips through that you do see, there are plenty you don't.
This is the final attempt I can think of to get this to stop, if being transparent with you doesn't work, I don't know what will work that isn't an extreme choice that would turn this subreddit into a censorship nightmare. We DO NOT want to restrict certain posts permanently but we will if it comes to that.
Thank you

For clarification, the subreddit in question hosts some very depressing themes, that will not change as that is the point of the subreddit.
Twice a year, like clockwork it seems, this particular subreddit picks up some of the worst that humanity has to offer.
I make a pinned post addressing it, crack down on it, and then get a few months where it doesn't happen everyday...until it does.
If I'm being honest, the loop is exhausting. I've been called a fascist for trying to crack down on it, I've been called slurs for just about every race out there because I remove posts and comments attacking anybody and am therefore accused of only helping "one side". I'm tired. I refuse to give up on the subreddit though, there's only 2 of us fully active as the rest have either quit for the reasons above or gone inactive completely on moderation.
So I ask you, my fellow Americans moderators, is there a solution any of you can possibly conjure up that I haven't tried yet.
I don't want to ban the themes causing the comments, I know that would be the best solution. Unfortunately though, if the specific themes are banned the subreddit immediately dies based on the topics we allow.
Edit: I'm attempting a more transparent approach I've decided, that seems to be well recieved so far. Thank you to everyone who recommended the bans and automod filter. For the filter, we already had that in place but a filter is only as good as what it can block (each time the toxicity comes back it attacks a group we didn't have filtered).
(Posted early because I have to do it manually and am currently at work, pretend it was on time)
Personally for me, I'm somewhere in between. I love pauper OUTSIDE of Arena. Getting a group of people to play pauper is a lot of fun in paper. Unfortunately, that energy hasn't transferred to here like I was hoping. Charging people 3 times the price of a normal event for what is supposed to be a cheap format hits me the wrong way (1,000 gems vs 375 gems or 5,000 gold vs 2,500 gold).
Part of pauper is that it's supposed to be easily accessible to everyone, Charging about $10 worth of gems per entry makes that slightly difficult.
I see this mainly in the largest dating themed subreddits
Sometimes you'll see someone who is trying to understand why they're having "sex troubles". The comments will tell them they need to figure it out because apparently "sex is required immediately in a relationship to be happy". Occasionally I'll pop in and make the argument that some people are very happy in their relationships without sex or physical romance early on (if they need to have sex at all).
Immediately that argument is often shot down as "abnormal" or "unrealistic" which I find depressing as it could be doing more harm than good. Obviously it's not my place to tell someone how they should be feeling but if someone is trying to figure out their troubles in romance, I'd imagine they're looking for all perspectives. I fear that the side of Reddit that overtakes most of those dating subreddits where everyone MUST have sex, be intimate, etc is poisoning the mind of someone when they're potentially having a low moment. It can hurt them to see what they're potentially going through being seen as that "abnormal" or "unrealistic" ideology.
I hope I'm wrong here and just overthinking what I'm seeing for the majority. I'm also hoping that those OPs I'm seeing are remembering to make their own thoughts off the advice and not immediately follow a crowd telling them to "force themselves to have sex to be happy" (actual quote).
Usually I'm formal with these pinned posts, but I'm just too exhausted at this point to be formal.
TLDR: If you can't be a good noodle, don't bother participating within the subreddit.
When browsing our subreddit, all I ask is that you're respectful to everyone (even the people within the post, as hard as that may be for a select few of you).
If a post makes you upset enough to target an ENTIRE race, gender, etc with your comment, don't make the comment, keep it to yourself.
I understand that may be hard for some of you, and if it is hard for you to NOT be xenophobic, homophobic, any of the other phobics, you will not be welcome on our subreddit in any capacity.
Contrary to what people may believe about mods, I do not take any joy or pleasure in banning people, I do not have a "quota" to fill. What I do have is a subreddit to protect and users on that subreddit to protect.
> Why am I going to be in trouble for targeting an entire race, gender, etc?
I'm so very fucking glad you asked! 😊
> You have a post about one man, who happens to be Muslim, and the story is about him pushing someone else into traffic killing that person (the victim is not labeled as anything and this was not found to be a hate crime).
Just because that one man committed that act of violence DOES NOT MEAN THAT ALL MUSLIMS ARE DANGEROUS TO SOCIETY. We have Muslim users in our own community who also believe the murderer is not a good person. What happens when those Muslim users see how you are commenting about their entire religion?
Replace Muslim with Christian, Jewish, Shinto, Buddhist, any other damn religion you'd like and the same applies.
Just because we're called r/Awfuleverything DOESN'T MEAN YOU NEED TO BE PART OF THAT "EVERYTHING"
Thank you!
I can't find an immediate update to the status, just that it's closed due to a derailment
I was getting some games of Arena in to settle myself into an MTG mindset for a Pauper tournament on this upcoming Saturday. While getting the usual emote spammers and roping players I was trying to figure out what the in person equivalent of this would be.

For the emote spamming equivalent I figure it would be someone saying "Can you hurry up?" or something similar while you are thinking about your next move but I don't think I've ever personally seen that in person. With MTG being a game that can cause you to enter deep thought in a critical moment (depending on your play style) I imagine this has happened at some point to someone.

Has this ever happened to any of you?
