Dragon Kings RPG books

(Sorry if this was asked in another thread, but I didn't see it. I'll delete if redundant.)

Anyone else thinking about investing in the new Dragon Kings RPG books? They're being put out third party as the "spiritual successor" to Dark Sun.

I know some here have expressed concerns about how WotC will do on the official books. I'm definitely considering backing the project.

The Book of Meme Spells- A D&D 5E Supplement

A comedic D&D 5E supplement magazine full of meme spells, awesome subclasses and unique monsters.

The Book of Meme Spells Kickstarter campaign introduces a 20-page Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) 5E supplement magazine that translates viral online wizard jokes into fully playable tabletop mechanics.

The comedic project features 15 meme-inspired spells (such as "Tungsten Balls," "Bear Bolt," and "Cast Iron"), two unique subclasses, a new monster, and five distinctive items like the "Boogie Woogie Cannon". It acts as a lighthearted resource for Players and Dungeon Masters who want to inject internet humor and parody into their TTRPG sessions while using structured ❺.➄e and ❺e mechanics.

The project is created and spearheaded by digital creators u/chezaidan (Aidan Wachter) and u/dicecreamsandwich, known for producing viral D&D meme videos- ——To bring their collective vision to life, they collaborated with assistant writer and designer CamunonZ, project manager Anastasia Parr, and popular artists like Jaki King (who handles the book cover and principal artwork) and Mounier.ro (responsible for DM screen, poster, and spell card illustrations).

✵ EPIC MONSTERS XP Chart 「 ᶜᴿ 30 + 」- ——EPIC ENCOUNTERS—— - 🅳&🅳²⁰²⁵

(...)

So to cut to the chase I noticed a few patterns and some odd inconsistencies within the default CR chart, so I decided to use those patterns with some slight adjustments to make it more consistent so that the chart can go beyond CR 30 indefinitely.

It may also be a solution to power creep.

「 Adventure 」To the End of Time - an Epic One-Shot | MAX Level 🅳&🅳 ᴰᴹˢ ᴳᵁᴵᴸᴰ

An Epic Adventure 「 MAX Level 🅳&🅳 」

They're some of the greatest heroes the world has ever seen, but when they are plucked from their own time and tasked with saving the world - and possibly much more besides - one last time, will they be up to the challenge?

Taking D&D to the Limit

Epic-level D&D is something that every gamer should get to play around with at least once. However, this is something that most groups struggle to achieve.

Most committed players have some sort of idealized character hanging round in the back of their head, designed to take advantage of all the abilities on offer when you get 20 levels under your belt, but they rarely get to use them.

Which is where To the End of Time comes in.

What is This Adventure?

This one-shot is designed to give players a taste of epic level adventuring without the need for two years of campaigning first. It can be completed in a single long session, or two or three shorter ones and should be relatively straightforward to run.

The players get to pick from pre-generated epic-level heroes (downloadable free from winghornpress.com) or create their own, complete with backstories of valor and adventure.

At the very moment of their death, these titanic heroes are plucked from their own time by a powerful angel and tasked with saving the world - and possibly much more besides - one last time.

Over the course of their adventure the party will encounter all manner of powerful creatures far beyond the reach of regular adventurers, and face tasks that would leave even stout-hearted heroes dumbstruck.

So sit down and grab some dice… it’s going to be a long night.

ZachTheBold examines the challenges of maintaining narrative and mechanical consistency in high-level Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. By comparing common tropes from animation and gaming to tabletop mechanics, the discussion explores how to effectively manage power scaling to ensure encounters remain engaging and logically grounded for players throughout a story's progression.

Midnight Syndicate is an American musical duo known for creating "soundtracks to imaginary films," blending gothic orchestration with cinematic sound effects. In 2003, they released the first-ever officially licensed Dungeons & Dragons: Official Roleplaying Soundtrack, which moved their typical horror style into a "Gothic Fantasy Nightmare" aesthetic.

The album is designed to be a dynamic tool for Dungeon Masters to set the atmosphere of a session:

  • Scene-Specific Selection: You can cue specific tracks to match your campaign's current location or event. For example, use "Ancient Temple" for exploration, "Skirmish" for combat, or "Lair of the Great Wyrm" for a boss encounter.
  • Looping for Background: For long roleplaying scenes, run single tracks on repeat at a low volume. This provides a steady, "brooding" mood without distracting from player dialogue.
  • Integrating Sound Effects: Several tracks include sampled sounds like clashing swords or mantras, which can act as a "theater of the mind" trigger for your players during narration.
  • Immersion: Use the music to transition between different tones, moving from the epic adventure feel of "Heroes' Valor" to the tension of "Stealth and Cunning".

Hello team, this might be slightly off topic.**..**but I’d like to share an impressive Warframe TTRPG system created by an independent developer that uses a unique d20 architecture —a massive labor of love designed to capture the deep customization and tactical power fantasy of the original game. Link below for the full system and mission details!

https://www.reddit.com/r/Warframe/comments/1shsv02/unofficial_warframe_tabletop_rpg/

Created by a veteran fan developer, this system uses a familiar tactical engine to faithfully translate the game's high-speed combat into a tabletop experience.

The Problem with Epic Level Play: Why D&D Breaks Down When Characters Become Gods

Once D&D characters reach high levels (tier 3 and 4), it should be one of my favorite parts of the game. And it is, at least in theory. But it is also the moment when everything starts wobbling like a gelatinous cube on roller skates. Wizards rewrite reality, warriors struggle to keep up, survival systems become meaningless, and the DM ends up flipping through more pages than a student the night before an exam.

So I wrote about it. Not as an exercise in complaining, but as an honest analysis of why the game becomes so chaotic once characters reach the threshold of demigods. Swingy fights, broken pacing, mechanics that no longer matter, and a tidal wave of magic the system was never built to handle.

If you have ever wondered why high level D&D is both wonderful and exhausting, this article is for you.

And since RPG Gazette just turned one year old, we are also running a giveaway. More details inside the article.

Read it, tell me what you think, and share the most chaotic epic level experience you have ever had.
