Should I cancel my bbq?

I was almost finished prepping and marinating 6kg of meat when I received the alert regarding the ban on open fires / bbqs. However it is a bit ambiguous in my opinion.

Originally I was going to grill them in my makeshift bbq pit made from bricks and is on the grass portion of my garden. Now I’m thinking just to use a modern bbq on the patio as far as I can understand this is allowed.

What I don’t want is some nosey neighbour calling the authorities and ruining the whole get-together. I also don’t want to end up wasting so much meat / time and money by cancelling my plans. So therefore I am in a bit of quandary.

What would you guys do in my position?

Who else is becoming more like their parents regarding dining out?

I’m not sure if this is the correct sub however I’ve never been a penny pincher, infact the total opposite however I feel I have that mentality now that my parents have which is dining out is a ripoff / often a disappointment and I would rather make stuff at home. It’s got to the point that eating out is more of a convenience instead of an experience - it’s just worse quality food than what I cook at home 90% of the time. My parents have had this view during their lifetime but I’ve often disagreed until recently.

Recently I’ve thrown a few BBQs during the heatwave for both friends and family and made me even more frustrated with the poor value food outside. I’m hosting another Indian style BBQ dinner for friends next week and think to myself outside of maybe a few high end South Asian restaurants in London what I will be cooking and serving really trumps what is available.

For my dinner party of 6 people I will be serving; 6 types of boneless kebabs approx 20 large skewers, a whole lamb shoulder Biriyani, butter chicken, naan, salad, sauces, drinks, masala tea, sweets and fruit and about 40pp using the best quality ingredients I can get my hands on. I can’t imagine what a top restaurant will have to charge to pay all their overheads and make a profit.

Pin buckles

I have both rubber straps and leather straps for my mark XX. I didn’t like the pin coming out of the easx buckle so fitted a previous gen pin buckle onto the rubber strap and that works fine.

However they don’t fit the easx leather straps at all, I’m wondering if anyone can recommend me an aftermarket IWC style pin buckle to use with the leather strap.

I’m in the UK

Thanks in advance

Anyone who buys / judges watches only on specifications doesn’t know anything about watches

I just saw a post of someone listing off the specifications of a Seiko SKX saying it has a hollow end link bracelet or a hardlex crystal and is a terrible watch in 2026. I’m sorry these sort of people have been brainwashed by bullet point specifications and haven’t owned / handled a range of watches to understand all the nuisances in what makes a good or bad watch. Specifications are only ever part of the equation. Design / heritage / service network / AD network / construction / robustness / charm / X factor / ergonomics / warranty are some other characteristics that these people need to understand.

Then there is quality - a good mineral crystal can perform better in 5 areas over the scratch resistance of a cheap sapphire, a hollow end link bracelet can still be more comfortable and better feeling on the wrist compared to a solid one. The water resistance of a certified diver might have more longevity than one which has a higher water resistance and so forth.

Universal Gift Cards

sveiki - I’m from the UK however my partner and her son are Latvian in Riga. For an upcoming birthday present I would like to get a universal gift card. Something that can be used in multiple stores - this is quite common in the UK even as a digital one.

Any help will be appreciated

The Sinn 556 is loved but is a terrible watch

I’ve owned one Sinn before and handled a few they are solid watches however the pedestal the 556 is put on I just don’t get. It’s genuinely a terrible watch that I just don’t get. The SW200 movement is outdated / terrible grainy winding. The handset is just too small for the dial. Many of the no date versions have 0 orientation to tell time at a glance or at different angles. The bracelet design is quite outdated, the feminine mother of pearl dial or a polished 5 link bracelet just don’t work with such a brutalist design. The watch barely has any features / tech that Sinn is known for.
