Buying BF in America
So clearly Europeans are ahead of the curve on us, but thankfully the American market is improving.
The hardest part of the transition is finding what shoes work for you. It’s very hard to find stores you can go into to try brands and sizes out. I’m going to compile two lists, 1) local stores that carry BF, and 2) ease of purchasing and returning shoes thru online orders.
Please add your experiences and stores to help the community!
STORES:
REI - Carries limited Vivo and Xero styles in store, as well as Alta. If you have a membership, there are more styles online (sometimes in the Outlet store). I have REI close to me so returns are as easy as dropping by the store. I’ve not tried to return thru postal mail.
Whole Earth Provision (Texas Based) - Carry Vivo, Xero, and Alta
Nomad (Grapevine, TX) - Carries several Lems models, no shipping available that I’m aware of
Allways Barefoot (Austin, TX) - Many BF brands. Online ordering is available. If you need to return a pair, contact them directly and you can purchase a shipping label from them.
ONLINE:
(Returns valid if the shoe isn’t Final Sale)
Vivo - Returns are done thru Happy Returns, super hassle free and easy. However they won’t honor “exchanges” in the US.
Lems - Happy Returns as well
Xero - Happy Returns
Splay - Unsure, I’ve not returned anything I bought from them.
OOFOS - Okay, NOT barefoot shoes, but I have found that they are very accommodating for splay! I use these for recovery days when I need a little cushioning. Easy returns, I believe with a UPS scan code.
Amazon - Carry limited styles of Saugaro, Whitin, and Hobibear with easy Amazon returns. Which I’ve heard on this subreddit that going thru the Saugaro website for returns is a hassle.
Sierra - Carry limited styles and sizes of Vivo and Xero. I’ve not tried to return anything thru them tho. AND you can find discounted Ininji toe socks as long as you don’t mind some crazy colors, lol.
