TIL: You can attach furniture to your mounts and other shenanigans.

This place is usually friendly, we all share tips and neat things we find but yesterday I saw the posts recently certain folk found a method to make furniture float, but they wouldn't share the method.

I've not found a way to dupe their method exactly, maybe a quirk of the console port, but I did find some cool things, I hope you find it useful for your own base/game.

  1. You can attach furniture to pipe/wire nodes. example: place a vertical beam, place pipe nodes, remove beam, attach a box. Possibly useful for placing boxes at specific heights?

You can even hide it by adding something beneath like a row of cupboards, or more kitchen storage units since the pipes don't have collision with furniture.

  1. You can attach furniture to your mounts. It will show as red, but if you click to place you'll get the option to rotate it and then it will turn green. The bed actually works as a mobile respawn.

Caveat: Attaching something to a mount will cause it to hover in mid-air next time you load, so you need to re-attach it.

Devs, never fix this.

Has the progress system changed yet?

I made a post a year ago where I noticed that each time I loaded my game, the progress/town status would be reduced by half. If you did this several times you could wipe out all progress you had made that day just by virtue of reloading after the game had crashed a few times.

Has this game behavior been changed/adjusted yet?

I've ascended from the Instinct 2 Solar!

I was about to pull the trigger the day before and order it for £650ish but during my commute I had one last nosey and noticed a retailer nearby selling it for £490 brand new - so I made a detour on the way to work. I've been playing around with the watch face API non-stop.

I've attached some of the faces I used as practice, one based on the motion tracker from Aliens and another based on Dune Awakening.

Turned my shirt into a poster!

You can save a PNG of your ascent from the shirt website as a PNG, so I stuck it with some game art and had it printed for my wall.

I'm not sure about the hanger, I might stick it into a frame.

I'm looking forward to another one once I finish a free solo!

When table space is at a premium, card holder!

https://preview.redd.it/b1gtwlsauy1h1.png?width=1718&format=png&auto=webp&s=c185a8a322c37faf716ef730b3598c786946f56a

My dining room table doesn't really fit most boardgames, I wanted to find a way to hold these character cards along with equipment, upgrades and aim dial.

I'd seen some online but they either didn't support all types of card (skill cards) or didn't hold the aim dial. They were mostly just large chunks of plastic which felt wasteful - I've only got a smaller print bed (AnkerMake M5C) so I opted to design one myself.

I set myself some goals:

  • Has to hold all types of card I might need.
  • I couldn't print it in a single piece, so it had to print in pieces
  • I didn't want to lose pieces, so no detachable parts.
  • Be very quick to use.

The first goal was easy, measured the cards and dial to figure spaces requirements.

The second and third goal was tricky - I considered a dovetail but getting the tolerances right might be tricky (losing pieces due to loose fit) or just using filament dowels to stick larger pieces together (with glue). I settled on this hinge - I just made something that seemed right and it worked mostly correct with some minor adjustments.

I was very happy with it. 10/10 would solve my own minor inconvenience again.

I started in 2014, but unfortunately I have CPTSD so anything with jump-scares was too much and due to the amazing sound design of this title I became overwhelmed very quickly, put it down and couldn't go back to it.

I've been trying EMDR (and other therapies) with my psychiatrist and it seems to have worked, my fight-or-flight is no longer debilitating and I've been able to enjoy activities that were previously uncomfortable.

So, while I am still physically shaking with tension each time the xenomorph appears, I'm able to push past it. I'm so hyped to finally get to experience this game!
